Not sure, maybe I would buy one just to take it out once a month
I don't know to be honest.

My favourite look for it lost so I'm not really interested in it aesthetically.

If its engineer or tac heavy thatll boost my interest in it but I'd still be unsure.

If it comes with frigates then I'll mode than likely buy it.

I just need to see it in game before I make my final decision.

With the state that hangar pets are currently in, you would have to be insane to spend money on a carrier. Why anyone would want one right now is beyond me.

    QFT.

Plus releasing a Fed-only Carrier considering the missing column for Romulans, and the empty space for KDF T6 Carriers is too much.

They might as well release a Fed-only Science ship up next, just to highlight to those fringe factions out in left field that if they don't open boxes during the next Annorax promo (which I speculate to be quite likely) they get nothing outside of gimmicky outdated Dysons with lobi-locked sets or that other Romulan Sci abomination, while KDF gets "it wouldn't sell, but here's a highly detailed garbage scowl Malon freighter that took considerable time and resources to design, oh and unique time-limited event ships every season from now on but we can't bother a single C-Store skin with copy-paste stats + enhanced battle cloak cause it would look bad on sales charts."

It is a sad state of affairs, as I had hoped this player-input ship design idea would have been more of a success and that I could have contributed to it by buying the ship. I just can't get over the pet nerfs-to-monetize practice, plus not even the slightest mention of a Rom or KDF carrier or Sci ship in the near future even.

Also I wish this took place for another ship that had no pre-set fan bias. Many still think Omega resembles Jupiter, which the saucer from the top-down profile might, but otherwise has zero in common.

Here's a quick breakdown of raw votes from the forums only:

    Epsilon 878 vs Omega 1443
    Alpha 1606 vs Gamma 854
    Epsilon 1631 vs Theta 1416
    Alpha 1651 vs Beta 1199
    Gamma 1949 vs Delta 961
    Sigma 981 vs Omega 1736

    Alpha 1651 + 1606 = 3257
    Omega 1443 + 1736 = 3179
    Gamma 854 + 1949 = 2803
    Epsilon 878 + 1631 = 2509

    Theta 1416 + x = 1616 + x
    Beta 1199 + x = 1199 + x
    Sigma 981 + x = 981 + x
    Delta 961 + x = 961 + x

    Where is the Epsilon-Omega hybrid?
The only thing the carriers can do now is to send the fighters to harass other ships, maybe throwing some toilet paper ta them, paintballing them or flushing their toilets as they pass on top of the other ships, who knows maybe we find a culture that would surrender if you pooped on them?

And that's one thing the Vesta does have in its favor, at least, compared to the other ships: it is NOT totally dependent on its fighters to be competitive. My main ship is doing enough damage on its own that sometimes my Danubes manage to survive because the main ship is drawing enough aggro. It also helps that I use Danubes, which are at least a bit less squishy compared to true fighters. To be honest, their main reason to exist on my ship is to be little flying tractor mines of harassment. One more way to get your hull sheared when you're stuck in my grav well, or to be pinned down so I can take shots at you.

While I have considered upgrading them from Advanced to Elite, I don't want to reward the nerf that way.

Do we know for sure that we will have to buy it? No chance at all of it being a free "event ship" that you must earn by repeating some temporary event?

I want a carrier for my Admiral Cain toon, and the likely winners here look more like the Pegasus than the Breen carrier she's forced to fly now, but the main reason I play this game is to fly a Defiant, so I'm saving up my zen stipend for that inevitably steep price tag.

The only Carrier I plan on buying anytime soon is a T6 Vo'Quv, If this Fed carrier comes as some kind of 3 pack with the t6 Vo'Quv and a Rom carrier I may pick it up.

Typical Carriers have a similar science ability set as the Vesta, and an extra hangar bay. The only drawback is their much lower turn rate. Trying to use the Vesta with Aux Cannons or regular cannons just means losing effective power for your science abilities.

The turn rate drawbacks means particular that torpedoes are harder to use, and I suspect that most strong science builds these days are relying on torpedoes. There is some good synergy between Grav Well and torpedo spread (especially with all the AoE effect-laden reputation torpedoes), and a Carrier doesn't get to play.

If Cryptic found a way to make abilities like Scramble Sensors, Viral Matrix, Photonic Shockwave or Feedback Pulse more useful in PvE (which these days mostly means - they must add damage in some way), then there wouldn't really be a big problem.

The only way I'd consider getting one for a discount at some point is if #TeamDelta is a costume option and there will never be a Tellarite ship for my Tellarite. Stats, traits etc. don't interest me, to be honest.

So it' most likely a "no", but since my wife doesn't really care I don't choose that option pig-2.gif

None of the above. I'll buy it if I like the stats and the costume options.

This. And it'll need to have great stats and hell of a trait to make me part with my DilZen.

Any official word/unsubstantiated rumors/wild speculation as to whether it will cost Zen, how much, and what stats it will have?
    • immudzenimmudzen Member Posts: 145 Arc User
I like carriers a lot. However, I won't buy the carrier unless it is a good ship. It needs to have a good trait and be combat competitive with the Breen carrier. I want either a science or tactical carrier since there is no need for a tank and a tank carrier is just not very useful given the current game setup. If they make an engineering tank carrier then I won't bother with it. Current fighters really need a DPS type trait since we already have leveling up and defense for them so dps would be good to add.

Even better would be something like a 2/2 weapon setup and 4 hangers or the best would be 1/0 weapon setup and 8 hangers along with frigate pets. Just need a single weapon to use subsystem targeting.

My answer is not included in the list of options. I will look at the stats and look at the visuals, and if I like it, I will buy it.

I am not sure if I will buy it but I will say this I hope Cryptic is thinking of the big picture and with this New Carrier they also release a new specialization that is focused on Carriers. This may be the needed boff to help carriers be more competitive and hopefully help hanger pets be more survivable and dish out more damage. This may help my decision on making a carrier purchase and could sway some people into purchasing one. Let us wait and see what happens.
    • karlbarbkarlbarb Member Posts: 166 Arc User
Yes, I will buy it even if it is just to collect dust in the shipyard
My Fed Sci girl is a total carrier fangirl. I used to enjoy the hell out of the Caitian carrier, but I consider it outdated now. So assuming the new carrier is a sci-oriented ship (it is, right???), I'll probably pick it up. Although I do hope Alpha wins the looks contest.
    • hanover2hanover2 Member Posts: 1,053 Arc User
My first preference is for ships that don't favor one career path over another, but if I had to choose, I hope it's more Tactical focused. At least, where console slots and bridge officer seating are concerned. But if I'm able to slot at least one Ltc Tac, Eng, and Sci, you can call it a science carrier if you like. :) I'm not picky with the terminology.
