Also pretty ironic that the first stuff that got removed from the store were those purely cosmetic things which later became fleet ships exclusive skins.

I still sometimes regret I didn't buy the account wide unlock for the Imperial class back then.
Those special faction EV suits used to be C store. I have one to prove it. (is not lifetime)
I thought they still did but also give them to LTSers.

I played before F2P and purchased the collector's edition when it came out. You got the Red Matter Capacitor and a few other itmes. Back then you could get ship skin for less. There were certain things like the MVAM that made the Prometheus able to seperate and certain outfits you could but to unlock. But betwen then and when I have come back the lockbox thing seems to have taken over

I waited a year after launch to start playing, on the theory that it would take a year for the game to actually be in a launch-ready condition. By most accounts I've heard, I was exactly right. And the price of the box was a lot cheaper by then, too. :)

Got my first characters to 50 and took a six-month break from the game, waiting for the other half of Season 4 to drop... then I found out the reason for that content gap when it was sold and went F2P. :/

it wasn't really cosmetic, because they had the melee set really early.. maybe even before season 2.. and the fed type 2 phaser was on there early too.

This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Ah yes, it was a much simpler time then.

It's too bad they couldn't hold onto the pay to play model, but for business reasons, they simply couldn't.

Bah! I remember watching Lincoln on my black and white television set back when he was president. I also remember what it was like before I went senile. Or I think I do.

I loved watching Lincoln's special appearance on Star Trek back then.
I bet the set was full of Secret Service men watching out for those danged Confederate spies!

Frankly I don't remember because I wouldn't have paid the slightest attention to it anyway. I would kinda hope that ANY game I played would adapt as things go along and the game develops and player needs change. That, plus, I would rather have them making money in whatever way possible rather than shutting down with a great game, a la City of Heroes.

If they break/ruin the game in order to make money, then I stop playing. Simple as that. If they make money and offer a decent gaming experience, why would i care what they said 5 years ago when 1/2 the game we know today wasn't even dreamed of yet?

The first ship to get a console slot was the Constitution back at launch. The first ship to get a new console of its own was, I think, the Advance Escort Retrofit's MVAM module. There were ships with unique abilities that got moved over to consoles later, like the Excelsior and the Nebula. But, the Advanced Escort was the first ship to actually ship with a new console.

No we don't. We MIGHT have as many as we did back then but not more.

We have less. There were 18 different marks, emblems, honor, commendations, GPL, and EC. On top of that, the marks all had idiosyncratic naming schemes, meaning it was a pain in the TRIBBLE to figure out which ones you needed specifically.

I mean, if you count the various rare rep tokens, like Isomorphic Injectors and Voth Cybernetic bits, then we might have more now, I'm unsure. But otherwise, no there's far fewer currencies today than there used to be.

Bonus question: First C-store ship to get an extra console?

Rhode Island. What did I win?

    Nothing, since you're wrong. :p

The Rhode Island was the first tier x.5 ship, as I remember it. (Unless you count the NX, Oberth, and NX as tier 1.5 ships because of their extra console slot.) But the MVAM was the first ship with a console you could pull off and use on a different ship. I know the T5 versions of the Galaxy, Intrepid, and Defiant came first, but their abilities were hardwired to those ships. And it was awhile before we got those as unique consoles we could rip off and use on other ships.

Actually, it's possible the first ship with a unique console was the Oberth. I think that came after the MVAM, but it might have been first by a month or two.
