Fleet Warp Cores with [W->S] bonus have all changed to [A->S] instead.

cannydogcannydog Member Posts: 148 Arc User
At first I thought I had bought the wrong thing... But NONE of the Warp Core in either Fleet Store even have "[W->S]" bonus any longer. OK So I don't want to buy more.

Then last night I watched an Advanced Warp Core change when I removed it from a ship. And later another Advanced Warp Core changed without me even touching it... This is WRONG! For One its NOT what I purchased. I mean even if you did decide to change what was "in the store" its just not right to change items that I've already purchased.

I also got a friend of mine to come back to STO the night before last. And encouraged him to buy the new T6 Battlecruiser. And when we played after that he kept getting blown up... Now I know its because his settings weren't working as he expected.

So you can do the right thing and fix this ASAP. Or you can loose players, Its that simple!

The bad part is that if I take some other Warp Core, with say W->E or W->A, and try to "upgrade" it... It changes it to "[A->S]".

Plus if I try to craft a Warp Core. No matter what I try to make it always comes out as "[A->S]", And one would think that you might at least get something else with a few trys...

So this has got to be some database malfunction!

W->S is now only on epic cores.. they could not fix the W->S W->S on a epic core so they did the simple thing and removed it..

What? That's doesn't explain why ALL Warp Cores have to have "[A=>S]". Why can't they have W->E or W->A? Besides that's just a messed up EXCUSE!! I simply cannot afford to try and get even ONE Warp Core to Epic for each of my characters.

And that's NOT the Point!! The Point is that I would have NEVER bought these warp cores if I had know they were going to be nerfed this way. So its just not right to change the Cores I have.

Oh! Now they are experiencing "attacks on our servers...". I wonder why...? :p

Seriously! Pulling stunts like this is bound to make players REALLY pissed. And I don't believe that they can't figure out how to work with the game's database. This is just a ploy to force players to try and get thier Warp Cores to Epic.

Were there any particular warp cores where dropping it into upgrade changed that modifier?

I just crafted one warp core of each type at very rare Mk II, receiving [A->E], [S->E], [S->W], [E->W], and [S->W]. None of these mods changed in the upgrade window or after an upgrade.

I had both [W->A] and [W->E] Mk XI Warp Cores in my bank. When I tried to upgrade them it changed the bonus to "[A->S]".

I just crafted 1 of each type of Warp Cores. They all ended up "[A->S]". So that's why I came here and made that post.

As I said I would be satisfied with a [W->A] or [W->E] Warp Core. But I can't make one and I can't the upgrade old ones that I've had laying around. But that's not really the point here...

I spent a great deal of time and money, in this game, to develope a Fleet with a Friend of mine. We've done it All by ourselves!! And we did it so that we could get decent gear. Then we spend the dilithium, which we mainly got from converting Zen, to buy the Fleet Warp Cores... And NOW they are essentially worthless. Because the people at Cryptic don't know how to fix their game.

That's NOT Right! My money is just as good as the next person's money. And I've spent allot of money on STO over the years. So I think I'm just as entitiled to consideration as the people that have gotten warp cores to Epic Status. But I won't play and continue to support them if they don't make some type of change in this regard. This is essentially the "...straw that brokes the camel's back...".

Huh. What type of warp cores were they, and do you remember when you got them? Were you away from the game for a while?

Also huh. Can you do one more set? If it's still [A->S] for all 5 of them, leave your character name so if we can flag down Q&A, they can check the toon specifically.

Regarding your last point... I don't think that decision will change, unfortunately. There was a lot of ruckus when it first happened a while back. This post by STOCrypticRock is the most detailed dev response on the issue that I've seen, and I think that's the best we're going to get. You have a very valid complaint, and sorry if this causes you to leave. :(

I cannot perform the checks you mentioned because I cannot log in... Someone else is apparently very Angry with either Cryptic, or Perfect World. But I did read the Reddit Post by STOCrypticRock. And I'm still not happy. I feel cheated. But I can think of a solution...

What I would propose is a modestly priced "upgrade token". One that would only work for Warp Cores that are Ultra Rare and upgrade them to Epic. That way they could still make some money on the deal. And players, like myself, would not be shafted quite so badly.

Its simply not cost effective to try and perform this upgrade via the current "lottery" method. Its just far too expensive and the vast majority of players will not pay for something that is not garunteed. Which means that Cryptic/Perfect World loose out in more ways than one... Because, to be very serious about this, they'll never see another dime of my money if they think that I'll forget them TRIBBLE me over like this!!

In other words, the change was in fact intentional. There is no bug here.

This certainly wasn't a decision which was reached lightly, and one where multiple options were discussed on multiple occasions.

First off, having W->S as both the Rare and the Epic quality mod was not good. W->S (and any other A->B combination) do not stack.

We ended up changing the Rare quality mod because it would have less of an impact -- instead of impacting EVERY dynamic warp core, changing the rare quality mod, though it is a popular mod, impacts only a subset of warp cores.

Building out a trade-in wasn't really an option, because doing so would have required a substantial amount of programming support to accept a warp core with the questionable mod. It also would have meant listing every possible mod combination, since we would be taking your existing warp core, and giving you a brand new shiny one.

As for leaving as-is, as robotichtchiker points out in the above post, the longer we left the warp cores in their prior state, the more players who weren't "in the know" would end up spending a great deal of time and dilithium upgrading to a mod which wasn't giving them any benefit.

A->S was chosen to replace W->S because they both benefit your shields subsystem.

Systems: Resolved an issue where Warp Cores could get [W->S] as both rare and epic quality mods.

[W->S] will no longer be available as a rare quality mod.
Existing warp cores will have the rare mod entry replaced with [A->S].

[W>S] is the modifier all warp cores gain at epic quality. The problem was when upgrading you would wind up with [W>S]x2 and this modifier doesn't stack, so you wound up with one mod that didn't do anything.
