Red Alert Instancing Bug

neoatticusneoatticus Member Posts: 72 Arc User
It seems the instancing system must be bugged for Borg Alerts. I've been repeatedly dropped into singular Borg Alert Instances where there were 5+ people and where the fleets are almost completed. I don't understand this. It must be a bug, as it renders the XP boost worse than moot, seeing as you can't get the XP for completing a map when its done by the time you arrive. And its not like I'm arriving late. Flying around, Borg Alert Pops -> transwarp to alert -> Enter Alert -> alert filled to the brim and almost already complete -> Unimatrix destroyed in 15 secs flat.

We need a hotfix for this asap. Not to mention no one seems to be getting teamed in these (which is a little problematic if you're trying to NOT let your teammates die during the alert with you.

Its been that way since ever. If you are late to a borg red alert you cant do anything about it, it is how it is.

Be aware that with the power creep in less than 1 minute some guys can rip apart cube after cube.. its really not unusual, actually. Happened to me several times, i was late about 30 seconds and the unimatrix was already there when i entered the red alert. It is completely normal. You also need to count the time you waste while you travel to the red alert and you enter the instance.. it looks insignificant but its not lol.

Anways the xp boost you get in borg red alert is almost insignificant no matter how many guys you kill, because most of the times you dont even have time to kill 2 groups of em.

Yup, takes me all of 15 seconds to take out a pair of cubes. Really easy to solo the whole thing.

But yeah, coming in late to a red alert isn't a bug, it's just the way it is.

It happens when it isn't late. I mean, the instance JUST flagged, and there are 9 guys in the red alert. And no new instances are created. When, for example, taking a Tholian Red Alert, if you check the instances, there will often be 5 or 6 separate instances of the same alert taking place.

And there really isn't any travel time, when you Transwarp to the alert.

This is how I understand it is supposed to work (what with Red Alerts being super scripted and all): There is a set time limit from when it pops to when you can enter it for an alert. There is supposed to be a maximum of 5 people in any Alert. If there are already 5 people in an Alert Instance, a New Instance is created and the person(s) trying to join are added to the new instance. This is what is supposed to happen. Perhaps it has been broken for a lot longer than any of us have realized.

Its the same way that Sector maps and STFs operate.

The OP is talking about this:

We're 10 people in this instance. I'm usually on the flanking side at this part of the mission but since a torp took me out I happened to be on this side for once and noticed the 5 extra ships warp in during the boss fight. Maybe this is related to all people who complain over ending up in almost finished RAs?

Well, honestly i do everyday a few borg red alerts and i never encountered that. I mean, warping into a red alert that just poped up and finding myself fighting the unimatrix already with so many players..

Happened sometimes that if i miss the red alert for a few seconds, then i warp in and i find people fighting the unimatrix. That is completely normal.

Thats the thing: Its not supposed to happen that way. Check your instances. You'll find at least 1 other instance after yours with NO ONE inside it. Thats a bug. Its not supposed to happen that way. Consider: This is a boosted XP zone, right? So what is the point of even having it if it is over by the time you get there if you are 4 or 5 seconds late to entering? They should fix this. Whats more, is that you can not switch instances if you are inside the Borg Red Alert. You are supposed to be able to, to avoid situations like this. But that is currently broken as well.

Because borg red alerts have a terrible design from the start. Instead of 4 groups of borg, it should be 8 or something like that, because it is too easy to kill em, and someone with upper DPS will kill 4 groups in 30 seconds or less. So, if the borg red alert popup, but you are doing something else like checking doff assignments, and you miss 10 seconds from the beginning, by the time you warp in already more than 20 seconds passed (including loading screen, etc) so by then, almost all the borg groups are destroyed. This happens all the time, and its normal.

Never checked instances, since as i said i never encountered this problem but if its true then this need to be looked into. At least make instances useful actually.

Since there are now reports that the bugged Research Lab consoles make Crystalline Catastrophe behave the same way as the Borg RAs described in this report (people warping in to finished or nearly finished instances), I wonder if this old Borg RA problem can be dps related too? Even without the Research Lab consoles we kill the final ship in a Borg RA in just a few seconds. Can this break the game mechanics in the same way Borticus describes in the CC thread?

Nah, i think what happens is just a instance bug. The game tries to find an instance where you can fit it, but it ends finding the same for everybody, and you end playing an instance with 10 guys in it when there are 2 or 3 completely empty. Its happening to me a lot now that i enter in a lot of red borg alert instances totally empty and i am completely alone for the 10 minutes...

Yes, ofc it's a bug. We agree on that and that's why we're in this forum. :)
I'm trying to understand the actual code mechanics that triggers the bug and since I now noticed the same behaviour in a different PvE mission, where Borticus explained that it is the high DPS killing that puts the instance in both a finished and unfinished state at the same time, I suggest that maybe it's the power creep DPS that triggers the same effect in the Borg RAs. It was just a hint to the developers really. Unless any of you regular players have access to the source code and can check yourselves...

I'm bumping this, since the bug hasn't been fixed yet.
