'Star Trek' Actors

outlawgraphixoutlawgraphix Member Posts: 36 Arc User
In the news recently was an article that stated 'Star Trek' actor Terrence Evans had passed away. Doing a little research, he only starred in 3 episodes (two in 'DS 9', and one in 'Voyager'.

When I think of 'Star Trek' actors, I immediately think of people like William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Avery Brooks, Sir Patrick Stewart, et al. Just because an actor has been in a few episodes (less than 10 episodes) really qualify you to be listed as a 'Star Trek' actor?

Grace Whitney (Yeoman Janice Rand) was in more episodes than Mr. Evans, (still less than 10 episodes, but played the same character).

Additionally, does acting in a couple episodes qualify you to be listed on the in-game memorial?

Maybe Star Trek was the most recognized work he had appeared in, even if it was only a few appearances, and the writer of the piece might have wanted people to have the best chance to place his name, especially if his other projects were less widely recognized... Virginia Hey, for example, is considered a Bond Girl, even though her character was not a love interest for Bond, she was simply a female character in a Bond film. But I doubt anyone would ever be so crass as to tell her that she's not a Bond Girl...

While I don't want to minimize his activity in the 'Star Trek' franchises, but the headline announcing his passing made it seem that he was on the scale of the others I mentioned from 'Star Trek'. While Michael Ansara was only seen in 3 episodes, but he was in two franchises as Kang, and one as the Tavnian husband of Lwaxana Troi. One couldn't think of Kang without associating it to him.

Mr. Evans was also in Terminator 2 and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, among other 'bit parts' (mainly on the small screen).

The question still remains, should Mr. Evans name be placed on the in-game memorial?

If he appeared in Trek, and it's a memorial to actors who were in Trek, then yes, it should be...

Does this mean that we should track down every 'Red Shirt' that ever died in 'Star Trek' and add their names to the in-game memorial? After all, they DID appear in 'Star Trek'....

Not trolling, just trying to confirm where you think the line should be drawn...

There's a couple of actors who were in several TOS episodes as Red Shirts, even though they were only stuntmen, it counts in my book.
