I had a question for anyone who has upgraded them to Mk XIV and made them purple. how did they turn out? Seriously im thinking of making the investment in upgrading these shields to the best i can. Im curious if any else has done the same.
I still have mine in the bank from the episode reward.
I don't see the point to upgrading it. There's so many other shields to choose from, and considering rep shields get set bonuses, I don't feel the need to upgrade my Paratrinsic.
But if you feel the need, and have tech and dil to spare, go for it. It should perform well enough once upgraded.
Paratrinics have extreme capacity but abysmal recharge rate, and do are best used with abilities that give specific quantities of shield HP recharge such as Science Team and Transfer Shield Strength, as opposed to abilities that mainly boost shield recharge rate by a percentage such as Emergency Power to Shields.

I suspect you're still new to the game. There are far better shields laster in the game so you don't really want to be wasting your resources on those ones.
OP makes serious inquiry and 4 out of 5 comments are brushing off the question with the usual "There's better equipment" argument. I use a UR Tachyon Deflector Mk XIV because of it's [Flow]x2 since it gets the most flow caps (+40). Frankly, if someone want to use a unique shield because of its maximum capacity , then let them.

Who's not letting them? They're just being informed that, if the goal is performance, upgrading the Paratrinic shield is a suboptimal choice. That's all.
Thanks lucho80. Funny how someone mentioned I was new to the game.... I beta tested this thing long before Arc or Perfect World were even in the picture. But I did take a 1 year break from the game and my new toon has not made it through all the new content so if someone thinks there is a shield out there with more capacity than the paratrinic then I'm willing to admit I simply dont know about it.
Since i'm mainly a PVP player, I rely on my Science and tanker teammates to throw me a heal as I'm strictly a DPS'er flying tac escort so capacity is a huge issue for the initial hits on my shields, past that I rely on my teammates and a few shield healing abilities.

I'm with you on this one.. and now that I read about it... I'm looking with Upgrade eyes my Paratrinic shield to see what it can do...

You should probably look at the Elite Fleet Adaptive Covariant Shield. It will probably have a bit less max capacity but you gain res and a stacking res with the adapt mod. Those things will probably more than make up for any loss of capacity except for an initial massive alpha strike which would probably kill you regardless lol.
Edit: Not sure what they are at MK XII, but at MK XI the paratrinic has 8,033 cap, 93.6 regen. The elite fleet covariant (they have capx2) mk xii are 9,395 cap, 177.9 regen plus the ResA or B mod and the adapt mod.
Yanno, I want to see what this looks like-a fully upgraded paratrinic. I think it's a neat idea, along with maybe a fully upgraded Efficient engine (not fleet).
if the stats for those drop-gear items come out good, it might be something to add to the database of "Alternatives to Rep and Fleet Gear" for F2P players.
Its an alternative for sure.
Would be nice if they made a set for paratrinsic + efficient engines, they'd just need to add a deflector. Unless I've overlooked a freebie reward deflector that has similar desirable stats...
The efficient engines can take you to end game and beyond if you really wanted, and I'm sure those would also perform quite well on upgrade.
And OP, I'm not discouraging it, I've debated upgrading the para and eff engines several times now myself, just have other equipment that takes priority (maybe ill get around to it at some point). Its why I tucked them away into my bank.
If you have a plan for the shield then do it. That's part of the fun, trying out new things. You seem to know why you want it. I just didn't want you using resources on something you didn't have a plan/need for. As there are other option for Cap, like ad Maco, and Elite Fleet shields (PvP), but it seems you may not have access to those yet.
Anyway, like Iconians said, do it for Science.
I'm a little curious myself at the end result.
Edit: Now I'm curious if there is a deflector and warp core (along the same lines as the para and eff engines) from episode rewards...I don't recall any off the top of my head.
other then Jem/Breen and Obs sets...
(Well, unless it's unavailable because of nonfunctioning char copy still. Then ignore my post.)

Maybe going for maximum hit points is in itself already suboptimal?

Romulans get a Tal Shiar Deflector and a blue unique singularity core. One of my Romulans is running a He'Fe (however you spell it) with all mission rewards. Non-upgraded yet though.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I loved the Paratrinic Shields while leveling. I also never rely on shield regen rates, but with the investment in upgrading them, I think there are better choices, especially fully upgraded Aegis, JEM Shields.
Or even fleet or covariant (Capx2 or 3) from the exchange.
Maybe I'm not giving Paratrinic Shields enough credit.

Frankly, if devs had put up a console that spewed out VR mats and salvage in Tribble, we wouldn't have this problem if who's going to try to upgrade the shields first.

Never found it suboptimal myself. My preferred way to tank is to put on the highest cap shield I can.
The thing I regret is that I had the discontinued Flux Chroniton Torpedo as an episode reward, threw it away and would have loved to see what the upgrade system did to it :-(

The torpedo got edited to remove flux from the name. Its just a standard Chroniton Torpedo. There are no flux Torpedos in game on anyone's account anymore.
Would be nice if they made a set for paratrinsic + efficient engines, they'd just need to add a deflector. Unless I've overlooked a freebie reward deflector that has similar desirable stats...
They could make two sets if they wanted, there are two named shields and three named impulse engines. The Numiri Regenerative Shield Array, the Paratrinic Shield Array, the Efficient Impulse Engines, the Dynamic Reroute Impulse Engines, and (the nebula's) Prototype Gravitic Modulation Impulse Engines. They could add the the Tal Shiar deflector (my romulan uses it) and maybe make a few more pieces to create a low level set.
I'd love them to do that with the Klingon Intelligence Stealth Utility Armor and the Phase-Shifted Personal Shield for maybe a low level two piece set. Maybe add something Romulan in and make it a unity set or something as all the factions contribute something to it.

All good ideas, I like the Alliance Unity Set idea, nice thinking...
Going a little further on that Unity Set idea, what if your chosen faction would determine what set bonuses you'd receive ? For example: Roms +Plasma Damage / KDF +Disruptor Damage / FED +Phaser Damage. Would even cater to those who want to use "canon" weaponry.
Getting a little more complex with that last idea development wise... but would be pretty awesome.
Well, I decided to have a go. The Paratrinic natively is the same as a Covariant shield with [Cap]x3 modifier and the lowest regen of any shield in game. I made it Very Rare MK XII with a [Reg] modifier before I decided to stop.
Stats then are: 7829.2 Maximum Shield Capacity with 100.4 Shield Regeneration every 6 seconds.
In comparison a Very Rare Reman Advanced Prototype Covariant Shield MK XII has these stats:
8431.5 Maximum Shield Capacity with 139.6 Shield Regeneration every 6 seconds.
The latter also has single item and set bonuses as well.
So while it was "fun" to use a few million ECs worth of item to check, in the end I would say skip it and go for the Reman Advanced Prototype Covariant Shield instead. :-)
I have a rare Paratrinic shield XI and it's states are 10,710.7 Maximum Shield Capacity and 132.4 Shield Regeneration every 6 seconds. I'm pretty new to the game but I think it's a better shield than everything I've seen anyone else list so far/ upgrading it to a XII puts it at 10,961.7 with 135.5 Shield Regeneration every 6sec.

Agreed, my Nebula running Maco set has almost 80k hull, just over 20k Shields, and does 19.5k DPS when not afflicted by lag.
