Wasn't going to do it, but it sort of slipped on. No issues with it at all and STO sort of works as well as it did before (only a few crashes on toon changes)

One thing to remember is to start with a local profile and not be tempted to start with a MSN or hotmail profile. The only one who profits is microsoft if you broadcast your browsing and spending habits. You avoid that by using a local profile.

I had been reading about that info gathering by MS with Win10. Quite interesting route they've taken.

Personally I'm waiting for these teething issues to get ironed out before upgrading.

That doesn't help either as all the privacy settings are set before you even reach your first desktop regardless of the type of account you make. I learned this in Windows 8 and have since made a point of using custom settings rather than express.

I found that out as i was working on my parents pc just now. It's easily fixed, but rather annoying.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

So far, so good. Had an issue with Kaspersky but I solved that by reinstalling the program.

I've decided not to upgrade at all. In fact, I even removed the GWX updater/spammer a few nights ago on my laptop and will do it soon on my tablet just to make sure MS can't force it on me. In addition to actually being happy with Win 8.1 (touchscreen everything), I am not happy with MS' spying and other unethical behavior in Win 10.

Never thought I'd see someone say he's happy with Win 8.1.
Were you one of those masochists who used OS2 Warp back in the day?

    Hah, nope.

What makes the CRITICAL difference is having touchscreens on both of my devices. Had I not made the decision to invest in a touchscreen laptop, I am sure I would've hated 8.1. It really is designed for that, but even I can see it would have been miserable without touch capability.

Yeah, well, my only touchscreen is my Android cell phone; my other two devices are a regular laptop and a gaming tower.

Microsoft tried too hard to make a cross-platform OS with Win 8. Win 10 is a definite improvement, not so overly wedded to touchscreens.

After your first download your ISP didn't throttle your connection for their fair usage policy did they? Even though a lot of ISP's talk about unlimited plans they still have a fair usage clause.

I updated overnight on Friday/Saturday and took ages to download but the install went well, still finding my way around a few bits but on the whole not had any real problems - so far, so good.

Yup, I was shocked when I firs used Win 8 as well. The trick is to never, ever let a program of any kind go the "express" or "comfort" route - always do everything yourself. With win 10, even if you disable the stuff the isntallatio offers you you have to visit settings -> privacy manually afterwards - there are still dozens of options checked you never heard of.

Still, if you have your OS under control Win 10 with a local profile and without cortana (!!) is still a very fine OS for this Targs' needs.

I'm not sure if it fits the description of spyware, but the issue with the privacy settings is hard to miss when gathering info on installing windows 10.

nothing to do with this fair usage... whatever you are going on about, i had left my second computer running for 3 days and 30 minutes, yes 72 hours and 30 minutes, wthout any change. i eventually just gave up and shut the computer down and cancelled the reservation for now. 3 days is more then enough time waiting.
