I fail to see the reasoning behind a second poll when the first was perfectly sufficient, but I suppose I'll lump my more accurate answer here too. Why not?

I never voted in the other one because it wasn't private like this one. So I'm glad this one was made, and hope others will contribute to them (or the other one) out of curiosity.
This is very heteronormative. Gender is a construct of the patriarchy. I am a genderqueer/fae/pyro fox and I am offended that Cryptic is not more inclusive.
Does this really tell us anything new? I was under the impression that the majority of female characters were played by male players was a generally accepted fact? This has been gone over enough times already.
This poll doesn't bring anything new to that, such as an insight into why this statistic occurs or how it impacts on the behaviour of players when encountering a character of a particular gender where the gender of the player behind that character is unknown.
Producing more studies to show that rain is wet are not helpful or informative.

But rain isn't wet. The water droplets that make up rain are wet, but rain itself isn't, if it was raining cats would that rain be wet? Well maybe once they've splattered on the ground but generally cats aren't wet so a rain made of cats would not be wet
Exactly half-and-half.
1 Fed Alien male, 1 KDF Alien male, 1 ROM Reman male. Then my Delta Recruits- 1 Fed Andorian female, 1 KDF Klingon female (my new main), and 1 ROM Romulan female.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

...I can see why having the answers public might put off people from voting.
There definitely seems, by eyeballing it, to be a significant difference in the results here now that any concerns voters may have of being judged or harassed on gender or orientation are removed. Poll and questionnaire design was--no joke--something I had as part of my formal education, so I can't help noticing these things.

Assuming players voted honestly, so far it seems men outnumber women by about 7 to 1- compared to the earlier poll which had a ratio of 18 to 1.
That's probably closer to reality. Despite the whole "there are no women on the Internet" meme, women are a larger portion of the geek and gaming population than people think.
While we are not yet at a sample size I'd say is likely to be significant (and even so, any poll on the forum is an unscientific poll even when interesting and well designed), I wonder if women are choosing their toons based on who they want to be and the character they want to play (not necessarily RP, but immersion concerns), versus men choosing their toons based on what they want to look at (the toon as an object or tool). That said, I don't know that I could generalize that sort of conclusion, considering that immersion concerns come up so frequently on this forum ("X broke my immersion!") that surely those concerns are being raised by a male-dominated group.

I haven't tried on this forum, but if it's like other forums I've been on, you can edit the message accompanying the poll, but not the poll itself, if you make a mistake or want to change something after the fact.

One male, or even female and one gender less. Female is main but I made her a she because she's a Bajoran tactical officer. I can only name one Bajoran badass male in the series while just about all Bajoran women have this trait.

Is it Bareil? He should never have pulled out of the election to become the next Kai.

I approve of this message.
You can't HIT edit on the former poll?
