I play many MMOs, but I only have lifetimes in a couple. LOTRO and STO. So, it is sometimes a while before I get back to lmy lifetimes. I have been gone from STO for maybe a month or two and I come back this time and it is a new game. So, not a problem..I just start a new char and that usually enough to show me how to play once again. Well, this time some of the game mechanics are so different and not explained very good in the tutorial, that I cannot figure out how they work. Okay.. call me dense, that is okay, but it does not solve my problem.

The thing I am stuck on now is how to raise my bridge officers skills. When I left last, all you did was come into the training screens.. select the bof that you wanted to advance, and you got a box like you still get with the captains skills. You just clicked on the skill training box and it increased the skill for that bof. Well, that is all gone now and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to raise my bofs skills. I read the post about doing this and as usual the post must be for a previous version because some of the things referred to in the post do not exist in my game.

I worked in support for 30 years.. so I know how little importance is placed on documentation when a new release is pushed onto the servers. When companies cut back.. documentation is the first dept. to be cut and that seems to be true for STO as well.

Anyway if somebody could point me to a site that has current info. or maybe just respond to this post and let me know how to increase my bofs skills , I would really appreciate it.

Apart from the "Promotion" tab at the bottom of the Skills UI, BOffs now need Training Manuals to add to their skill set. Craft a Training PADD through the R&D menu or buy one on the Exchange; this enables manuals to be applied to the BOffs (you can leave it in your R&D inventory). Then you can buy training manuals on the Exchange, craft them (indexed to your captain's own skill set, I believe), or reduce BOff candidates to a manual (1 skill per candidate), which can then be applied to the BOff you are training.

To apply the manuals, click on the BOff you want to train, open the "Skills" tab, and click on the level of skill you want to improve (the manuals are color-coded to the relevant rank seating). If you have an available manual for that seating rank, you will see the "Learn" button next to the skill you want to train. Once you have done the training (which consumes a small amount of the Captain's experience pool), you then click on the new skill to make it active.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks guys for the update. You are right.. It may have been longer than 2 months.. I tend to lose track of the time. Looks like I have some learning to do with my bofs. I am wondering if this was covered in the tutorial.. It may have been, but me being in the old time set may have pushed the training manual stuff aside. I will check it out.

    thanks again

There was one of those short series of popup windows that point tompart of your screen. It only appears once max, and many people turn off the popups so you might not have seen it at all.

I kinda think we need a cheesy mission that rewards a training manual or padd and has us give a boff a new power.
