Agreed, having to grab the flag is a little silly, just go by who crosses the line in what order. I don't think that's how this game works though.

I really do hate that in a race crossing the finish line isn't how you win but grabbing a flag that changes position is.

Small consolation, to be sure, but the flags always change to the same positions for 2nd & 3rd place; if you take note of those positions, you can at least be prepared to get the consolation prize. And by all means learn how to "eject" from your board at the finish; it's really the only way to stop at the flag without giving up speed on the final approach.

You don't need to 'Eject' from your board at all. Just press 'F' at the right moment.

Just press 'F' at the right moment.

Considering the intermittent lag, and the velocity at the end of the race, that "right moment" can be quite fleeting...hence, the "eject" move. By dismounting from the board at the "right" moment, you halt forward momentum, and have more positive movement control in the immediate vicinity of the flags. Even so, you've got to have quick reflexes in a crowded field!

I agree that the grab-the-flag mechanic doesn't work. They implemented it to avoid people complaining because lag screwed up the finish line counter. But, breaking news: Lag will just as well TRIBBLE up grabbing the flag.

If you practice a bit you learn that you just have to stop pressing "w" at the right moment to slow down enough to grab the flag. Have the server recognize that you pressed "f" at the right moment though, that might not always work.

Jumping will stop you in your tracks, too. The problem with a "well timed" F is... timing. If you don't have it, you are #!TRIBBLE, but if you manage to stop, you might still get your click, or at least be closer to the next flag.

LOL. Indeed. :) The grabbing the the flag bit is just silly: if there's lag, it will be there for the flag-grabbing too. Whoever crosses first, should simply win.

The flag also reveals another issue: you're all getting funneled towards a single, narrow flag-point, so, effectively, you're suddenly converting from a parallel to a serialized finished line, as it were.

I know it's a difficult concept to grasp for people who think they should always win, but... the race mechanics are the same for everyone.

Everyone should stop asking for changes to things like this. Cryptic CAN NOT put any work into changing things unless it gives a monatary return.

This..... sometimes I have to stand by the for a few seconds before the option to even grab it appears.

To make demands one must have an Ultimatum, what will happen if they don't follow your demands?

If you think Cryptic will do what you say because you post a one sentence thread saying "do this" in a pretty hostile manner you are completely delusional.

it is delusional isnt it? that cryptic would make a system that makes sense instead of something idiotic like hide and seek with the finish line.

Your opinion on the race is completely irrelevant, the fact is Cryptic are not at your beck and call and they won't do as you demand simply because you make a hostile thread saying "I don't like X change it".

I'll ask you again, what makes you think Cryptic will do as you say?

I know it's a difficult concept for people who have no empathy for others, but not all internet connections are equal.

This means that the race mechanics, while 'mechanically' the same, show a clear bias to certain parts of the world (i.e. the parts with good internet).

Before you tell me to "just move" (because 'thanks, I would never have thought of that on my own'): We can't all just move about the world on a whim, living where we want based on how we game - some of us have responsibilities in life and we game to *get away from **** like this* (i.e. unfair ****).

My bad - I thought we 'walked at the pace of the slowest walker' in an evolved society.

I am beginning to understand why so many people are under the impression that this is not a Star Trek game - I don't recall anywhere in canon where it was accepted that people would just be thrown under a bus *without consequence.*

Hell, the most critically acclaimed episode was LITERALLY a study of what it meant to *choose* to allow your loved one to be thrown under a moving vehicle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_City_on_the_Edge_of_Forever

Sure, I'm rambling, but you're going to disagree with me whatever I say so I might as well have had fun with it. Which I did. I'll be over here, not doing any races ever, because of threads like this. Thank goodness for threads like this, too: Saved me a lot of time and hassle.

Telling you to move would be silly. But so is blaming others for having a bad Internet connection. Basically you're asking pople to have empathy to the tune of them getting an equally sh*tty connection as yours, just so the race be 'fair.' Obviously that cannot happen. And honestly, I do have empathy with your your situation, but not to the point where I will start to feel guilty over having a better Internet connection than you.

It's not Cryptic's fault you have a bad Internet connection; nor mine; and nor that of anyone else participating in the race. Complain to your ISP, if need be, but not to the other racers.

Maybe so but I'm confused as to what he thinks he will achieve with this thread, someone needs to be firm with people like him and tell them that they won't get everything they want when they throw a tantrum.

Which is Ironic because I throw tantrums all the time.
