    "Cryptic Launcher Auto update

    Trying to update the Launcher
    Please be patient.
    Tried connecting 5 times"

    "Connection problem!

Unable to establish connection to patch server. Please check your internet connection. If problem persists, please contact technical support."

    This........for 2 WEEKS in a row!!

This hit me as couple weeks ago,and after everything I tried (manually downloading the latest launcher, disabling firewall etc),something broke and I had to uninstall and reinstall the game.On 25th it finally finished downloading and I was able to play for a bit.I logged off and then next day,BOOM...THIS S**T AGAIN!!!

Now obviously my internet is fine,I'm posting this message after all,so the obvious problem is cryptic. Not PWE,as arc loads fine and so does star conflict.

So cryptic, any intention of letting me play???:mad:

Look use the old launcher go inside ur Arc files find the .exe file and pin it to taskbar then delete arc from ur comp there problem solved

sorry but you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. you have no idea how that launcher works. you think that stupid arc browser plugin is where arc "hooks into IE" LOL wtf... why not leave a thread alone where you are not able to help...

While he is a little harsh in this post he is correct, the actual launcher, not the ARC one, does use your browser settings, in fact it actually a IS a browser, so yeah your systems browser settings can play havoc with it. Although now that we've seen a trace route it's obviously not a browser issue, the trace route clearly shows some issues on hop servers before it gets even close tot he game server.

I'm not trying to be a fanboy or anything, but just saying...any MMO when they launch a large update or patch, well, everybody wants to play it. Their available patching bandwidth is fine for the sporadic player downloading the entire game or updating, but when every player at once tries to update, it's going to be slow.

I just fired it up expecting to be unable to play, but to my surprise, after only 3 or so attempts (5 times failed please retry), it made the connection and is patching at about the speed I'd expect right now. As in, slower than usual.

I was gonna let it go, because of his boorish reaction; but, while we're at it, as I said, "I was merely pointing out there's only 1 hook into IE, and that comes from Arc;" The game launcher itself does not, in any way whatoever, hook into IE itself, no matter how loudly he decries it. The launcher is capable of opening tabs and such in your IE, of course, but that is not 'a hook into IE'. That is just using the Windows API (presumably .NET Framework et al.)

When Arc was first released, I made it a point to specifically examine what it does. And apart from the Arc shell itself, which adds said plugin to IE, and the game launcher itself, do not change anything about the installation of IE. Not one iota. And until I see proof to the contrary, that is what I will continue to believe.

Ok, it's not dotnet. Not the launcher, not the Arc client.

If you really need to know, they use the libcef library. In both the launcher and Arc client. They switched away from Wininet lib in 2013. Since then no IE in an any of Cryptic's games.

Cool. All the better! :) So, can we now officially exclude IE as culprit?

    Thx for the info, btw.

    This *might* help.

    For Windows users:

Open an elevated command prompt (Google it)
Type the following commands inside the " quotes ". For each line, you hit the ENTER key on your keyboard:

    " ipconfig /flushdns "
    " ipconfig /registerdns "

    Wait ~ 5-15min. Try again.

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.

Except the game launcher IS a bowser, it's a custom browser based off of chromium, this is why people have found issues when they have chrome installed, because it causes conflicts. We never meant IE was a cause or cure, we meant chrome could be the issue and getting rid of chrome and using IE instead might help.

When he says about hooking into IE I think he's just talking about the generic windows briwser settings which as it is a briwser will effect the launcher, at least that's what I was talking about.

In this case it turns out not to be the case and seems very likely a routing issue, but it was just an idea to try based in similar issues in the past.
