Does anyone know what kind of weapon this is?
Are there plans by the devs to rework finally the old phaser pistol model?

It's the elite fleet phaser pistol iirc you get it with fleet marks at the starbase.

Ah, that makes sense. Many thanks!
You don't see people wear that weapon very often, so i was a unfamiliar with it.

The elite phaser stun pistol looks like a upgraded TNG phaser, the one on the screenshot is the wide-beam one which kinda reminds me of an upgraded TOS pistol.

I think it's a pity that pistols have no real use in STO.
Surely rifles are supposed to be more powerful and i am ok with that, but i think Pistols should have a inherent [CritH] chance, to give them SOME reason to use them at all.
Design wise i think that this gun looks like a 25th century Starfleet weapon should look like.
(although i think the Cobra design is a classic, i hink it looks too unwieldy to be really useful imo)
I suppose the Fleet Elite compression variant looks like the standard Phaser Compression pistol?
(which looks to generic to me imo.)

I actually wear the Elite Wide Angle pistol when I pull out the Enterprise uniform as its the closest we have to an era appropriate weapon until they actually give us a Phase Pistol.

Last time I said pistols have no real use I was called a noob But I ahre your opinion, that's why I would like a revamped dual wield system so you could have a pistol and a melee weapon (espexially for klingons) or something like that.
The pistols are supposed to have a higher firing rate though, so you can reach higher dps values with a pistol, it just requires you to get close to the enemy and essentially run around them all the time.
The elite wide-beam looks like a weapon. It's a phaser weapon like the Type-III and up rifles. The Cobra design is meant to reflect the multipurpose phaser that's equally a tool and a (non-aggressive) weapon, which is why in my STO set-up I issue the "aggressive" pistols to combat attire (STF armour) while the "cobra" designs are worn in normal duty wear and excursion uniform.

the main thing I like about wide beams is that the secondary has a faster recharge than most secondaries. so even if the primary has somewhat lower damage I get the same out of it.

I heard something similar too, lol.
But if it where true and Pistols actually where useful, then why is no one using them?
To anyone else: just ot clarify things, i am not against pistols!
Heck i would LOVE to exclusively use them, but they simply offer nothing of value, rifles and other heavy weapons a simply superior in every important aspect imo.

If compression and dual pistols would look like the one i showed at the opening post, i'd love to use them. But the "normal" phaser compressions and Dual wield pistols look just... meh, to me.
On the other hand i think it would be really nice to have the choice to use either the Cobra or TOS- like model. I mean who uses stun pistols anyway?

Actually that's not entirely true! The Bajoran Phaser Pistol is actually killer as an endgame weapon as are the Romulan Republic equivalents. As they are basically rapid fire split beam rifles. And the Fleet ones are actually good because they have the [ShHeal] modifier allowing you to gain some passive shield heals on hit (which go up with the rate of fire so pistols benefit from those mods).
PS, here's the CobraHead Phaser Pistol from the Fleet yards. And yes, I do use it in battles. My Eng tends to get up close and personal at times and that stun setting is great for making a quick strafing run.
Going off the phaser topic, would anyone want to see the Vendor tag for the Iconian Resistance gain radiant ground weapons from some of the Delta quadrant species instead of only those anti-proton guns?
If we were to get any, I would like to see them look like ray guns from the early 20th century, what do the rest of you think?

I always enjoy a little retro-sci-fi (probably part of the reason I lean towards briidges like the Constitution...) - they could even come with a pulp-era 'concentric rings' firing effect instead of a laser beam...

Good you mentioned them.

Their secondary fire mode does not do exploit dam, it's a expose! lol.
This means you can't use Split beam pistols like you would a Split Beam Rifle...

This version from the mission you played yreodred, actually reminds me of a 2409 updated phase pistol from Enterprise.
Indeed, they look similar in some fashion.
Actually i like that design much more than the one we have as standard phaser compression and dual pistols in game.
I wish they would make much more weapons to fit to starfleet gear. (maybe add some model options to choose from?)
@captz1pp
As much as i can see the cryptic made phasers (compression, dual) look like generic sci-fi weapons or lasertags (had to google what that is lol), but they don't especially look like Star Trek phasers to me.
Speaking of supersoakers, standard antiproton guns look very much alike that imo.
(especially those red "bubbles" look very child- friendly so to speak.)

The compression pistol and assault weapon design of phasers always was meant to represent "generic" phasers to me, illustrating that phasers aren't exclusive to Starfleet but one of the most common weapons used in the galaxy, so the compression designs are "civilian" or "generic alien military" designs, just as you have a line of disruptors that resemble Klingon weapons (loosely :P) and one line of disruptors that look like generic weaponry used by random aliens, pirates etc.

There should be at least a Starfleet version availlable for all phaser weapons and Klingon version for Disruptors. Idk but having the more deadly versions look like the civilian version doesn't make much sense to me. I know Starfleets mission is peaceful, but the most deadly handheld weapons shouldn't be openly acessible.
Myabe it's just me but i can't get around the feel, that cryptics devss are deliberately trying to sabotage anything that makes the game feel like Star Trek. At least they give us a hard time to make our Characters effective without looking to generic. (sorry off topic)

That's probably why you were used to get the Starfleet looking weapons at Starfleet NPCs and the generic looking weapons at "shady merchants" (SB39 for example) bit the "negotiate a deal" option. Those vendors are still relics of STO at launch, but they illustrate quite well what those weapon designs illustrate in my opinion.
Blast assault, high density and compression pistol (single/dual) are what have the generic design in phasers, all the others are Starfleet-y (the STO Starfleet weapons do look terrible as well, though). I don't think it's much of a loss, I hardly ever use these types of weapon anyway. But I think the Elite Fleet weapons have all of them and those look at least futuristic Starfleet-ish. The rifles look like a modern mix of the TNG Type III and the later TNG compression rifles.

Im not against generic weapons, except for the longer versions of the plasma rifles and pistols, which look like the extra parts on the business ends were glued onto them or something, lol.
IMO all pistols and other one-handed weapons should have an inherent [Run] mod that makes you move faster. It makes perfect sense that you would be less encumbered than you would carrying one of the heavier rifles. And it would make a sidearm the logical choice for a melee or shotgun toon, since you could move into close range more quickly and then swap weapons.

What about altering some ground weapons with grenade launchers like that one MACO rifle has, or add a new one, a shoulder mounted micro torpedo bazooka thing, could be good against those Defiler Heralds.
