I for one would pass on putting school uniforms on my female alts.

these costumes are already ingame: academy uniforms :P

personally, i don't want to see in this game, this strange japanese fantasm. i don't understand why they are excited by school uniforms

even in a game, respect for the women or female characters is important. i'm a male, 41 years old, and i don't understand, all these new generations who have forgotten the respect.

And, we have enough sexual pictures etc in real life, no need to pollute a game. And if a game needs this kind of things for making money, it must be a very bad game, without anything else interesting.

Already in STO, i don't like 2 stances: cute and seductive. or they should be available also for males. Tovan khev should be able to be as cute than boring :P

    Two words: catholic school girls....

OK that's 3 words but still it hardly a Japanese only fetish. Also once again this star trek with the whole free love vision of the future thing gene was rather fond of.

And isn't the idea of a women being sexy being a bad thing a little sexist... And yes guys should get to be sexy\cute too.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

a federation captain is always professional and always has an image to maintain
I give you this image of Picard sweating in the captain's chair in a robe after fencing.

I also hope we can get this sitting emote for the captain's chair.

As silly as a bunch of grown men paying for maid costumes for there digital barbies sounds... its very true.

Take a look around every F2P game OTHER then this one makes there money off of cosmetics. They don't sell more powerful ships every 2-4 weeks, they don't have promos with even more powerful ships... they don't try to sell things with some Uber Trait attached, they don't throw powerful gear in some Lobi like store.

What they do is sell cosmetics. Take for example a game more people around here have played (Tera isn't that popular amount Sci Fi MMO player imo) Look at The Old Republic. The lockboxes in that game... give you Reputation Boosts (and rep is only good for cosmetics) / Crafting Materials / Emotes and COSMETICS... that's it, no powerful traits, no powerful items, nothing comparable to a Lockbox Ship. They give armor cosmetics / Weapon colour changes / and fancy mounts. In that game people pay a ton of in game currency (and real life $ trying to win them) on things like Rankor mounts and "Reveling Body Suits" as well as things like Mandolorian Armour sets.

Cryptic screwed up bad when they decided the only way to make money was to sell more and more power. They have great GFX guys all they had to do was let them loose. They even added tech to make it possible... They seem to have forgotten about there ship enhanced ship reskin porject. (remember the first version of the Risan Escort) it had new ship skin tech. People WOULD in STO pay to skin there ships with Military Camo paint jobs / Sweet Pink with Neon Highlights ect ect... as for ground clothing.... yes some people would complain if they added a few racy outfits who cares though really... If my jedi can run around in a Slave Leia outfit, my Star Fleet officer should be able to run around in some shot shorts or something. (they did give us TRIBBLE evening wear at one time).

What people need to ask themselves is as a Game player and a Trek lover what is more obnoxious... A broken game with run away power creep that becomes less and less fun the more junk Cryptic pushes down your gullet; OR a company that sells TONS of outfits for your space barbies which are all 100% optional.

The truth is a balanced game with a TON of cosmetic options makes A LOT more money for a developer. There is no doubt TOR makes more money on lockboxes then Cryptic does with STOs.

So a federation captain can wear a bare midrift 'uniform', micro skirt 'uniform', a skin tight catsuit. That technically was not a uniform. Multiple branches and old uniforms. Formal dresses, mercenary garb, and religious robes.

But a bikini is crossing the line?

    Sorry, not seeing it.

That said, I believe the answer last year about the bikini was the same one as the T5 Connie. CBS said no.
So while it might sell well. It might not break immersion any more than it already is. I do not think it will happen.

    And umm, maid outfits? Honestly?

    Fully support non-restricted swimsuits.

Honestly, I don't understand why Cryptic has invested so little time and effort in cosmetics.
People are more likely to pay a tiny sum for new costumes than they are paying full game price for a ship.
Seriously, theres got to be literally hundreds of CANON Star Trek costumes that could be made and monetized with styles to suit pretty much everyones taste.

    That's because:

Micro mini: Look at what the female characters in the original series wore.

Bare midriff top: Google "mirror Uhura" or "mirror Hoshi" for details.

Skin tight catsuit: Refer to 7 of 9 (maybe even T'Pol) for details.

Bikini: Unless you count Orion girls, no one wore a bikini on a regular basis.

Hopefully that should clear things up.

So, what I'm hearing is that you think they should sell a T5 Connie wearing a giant bikini.

A teeny-weeny yellow polka-dot bikini would be perfect. (giggles)

Ah okay. Because STO is sooo canon we should not think about that what we didn't see but (probably) existed (like many nude Ferengi and nude weddings on Betazed) but stick to those things that could be shown in a American TV show in the 80s-90s?

I think in the real future people will be much more open about anything. And since we alredy know that religion is no big thing in the future we can assume that their moral and ethical standards are totally different, far more open and liberal towards anything

If a Human Fed player can wear anything from MACO Battlesuits and Iconian Latex Suits and Delta Stormtrooper Armor, Voth or Xindi Uniforms but no Earth Swimwear i don't see the reason. And i also see no reason why that should be sexist and no one complains about the "mora"l of Orion slavegirls in Bikinis. just because we saw them on screen.

Why are bikinis or swimwear in general sexist? If someone can only think about sex when he/she goes to the beach and sees people in swimwear something is wrong with that person, not with all the other peoples who are just enjoing the beach. Hope you get what i mean.

In every social Zone i crash into Teams of Orion females and i have no problem with that nor do i want anyone to change that. Why would i have a problem with Feds wearing the same thing?

Why would it be a problem if my female toon was wearing a Bikini on the Bridge surrounded by NPCs or in a Social Zone surrounded by a handful of Orions wearing even less?

No one gets forced to wear a Bikini, STO isn`t canon so what is the problem

    yes i know...

im also aware of the orions, but with the orions though, thats apart of established canon, i can not argue that, but in general i made this point before, federation captains should not be wearing swim wear on the bridge of their own ships, a federation captain is always professional and always has an image to maintain on behalf of starfleet and the federation as a whole and then there is the whole distraction of being barely contained and this would head into sexist country.. not going to get into that. romulan captains have never been shown to be in anything other than their military or official gear when on the job, no matter what.

Can i laugh now? A Fed Captain has an image to maintain? What image? Do you really think that those things we call moral and ethics still exist like that in the future? They are already different in every country. From what we know the Ferengi females are always nude, Betaziod weddings are nude and we don' t know much about any other race but maybe there are dozens of Races that don`t wear clothes at all.

And for me someone who is always looking for people who wear the wrong clothes (in his /her opinion) is more sexist than people who just wear the clothes they like. Not directed at you, just saying it in general

I know that discussion from Real-life when its about how girls should dress and usually those who talk about how they should dress and that someone looks like a s*** , those are the real sexists and weirdos because while everyone else just lives their live they have nothing else to do than to look and find some sexual issues.

With that reasons why not just go totally nekkid? I mean it's the 24th century and people are civilized...why couldn't they handle the nudity?

Maybe because people in the 24th century are civilized enough to the point where they don't feel the need to expose themselves?

Obviously don't need eye candy all over the place to get their rocks off like some of the people here in the 21st century.

TERA's apparently profitable because of swimwear.
    From massively;
Tera is also Tera. It has an already somewhat-outrageous visual style, a single character focus, a very light-handed hierarchy, and a lot of that game exists because wouldn't you know its fun to kill the twirling bird monsters with fantasy-based super-death. Star Trek is very, very heavily based in fulfilling a rigidly specified role in a social/scientific/military hierarchy. You're the doctor. You're the captain. You're the alien of the week. You're the cannon fodder whose stupid, arbitrary death makes the episode feel more dramatic. Not being able to wear beach attire on the job does lend to that background.

I guess the major point is this: what works for one game does not necessarily work for any given other (because each has its own features, pressures, and niche.) Take starships for example. They've doubtlessly supported cryptic's F2P transition. Should Tera adopt them in return for bikinis? Not unless it improves the game in a very well specified way (which "because I want to" doesn't quite cut, because there's no situation where that line can't be used as justification. For example: why have I covered myself in horse radish and sung the Canadian national anthem for the last half-hour? See?)

In 1984, Nintendo sold 28 million copies of Duck Hunt. Cryptic missed out on a big opportunity to capitalize on this by not allowing us to have a beagle who snickers at us whenever we miss somebody in Shooter mode.

There is standing precedent in Star Trek for this because Porthos is a beagle and people sometimes missed their targets while shooting at them in the Star Trek shows/movies.

While I'm not on board with the original starting post (honestly, bringing up Elin & TERA seems like asking for negative reactions), and there's any number of outfits that I don't think would fit in the game (maid outfits, "sailor" schoolgirl outfits, baseball mascots, etc*)....

....I still find it amusing to see posters 1) calling merely-revealing outfits "TRIBBLE", and 2) trying to claim "canon" as a motivation for this game anymore. When we can already have a captain running around in an Undine bioship with a Jem'hadar/Voth/Breen/Hierarchy bridge crew. Canon, as an argument for "that wouldn't make sense," flew out the window years ago.

    * note that I don't include "sexy" as an attribute of "outfits that wouldn't fit in the game". Sexy outfits have been a part of the shows since TOS. Admittedly, most of it showed up on aliens or civilians, but there was a good bit of off-duty wear. People going "gasp! how dare you sully our pristine/respectable Star Trek with your TRIBBLE!" is hilarious.

(And you know, there's a bunch of other stuff they missed out on... the game could have a bunch more Off Duty & Formal stuff. Just think of all the Holodeck-themed packs they could have made - Sherlock Holmes, Old West, Noir Detective, Captain Proton.....)

Canon is separate from the game's own tone and visual style. We can throw the former out the window but the latter (ie. STO being what it is, regardless of how that stacks up to a franchise bible) may still preclude being-extra-ready-for-spontaneous-flooding-in-DS9 (or any other scattershot costume option) from really working for this game.
