So yeah, when will I be able to purchase more ship slots? You guys keep popping out 3-packs; and I keep buying them. But I reached max ships now (including all lockbox ships). And I recently had to discharge several ships, some of which can't be reclaimed.
I know this has come up before. And it's usally followed by something like "Yeah, we know. Too much data in our database. We'll be sure to look at it one day, maybe." Well, perhaps it's time you start looking into this *now*?! At the rate you're popping out ships, I can't be the only one running out.

Nope you iz not the only one myself and other peoplez i know are running out of ship slots and at the rate they keep spamming out 3 packs .....we need ship slotz.
I do what I can.

And the forces of darkness.
If it's all the same to you, I rather see it NOT be reclaimable lockboxes. I mean, would be nice, but I much rather just have the extra ship slots. Especially, what with the advent of endless new ships and all, I'm thinking it would be good if the issue got resolved, once and for all, in a 'scalable' fashion (so that we won't be having the very same talk next year).

I'm betting(hoping?) they'll be re-packable in ship boxes. Hopefully extended to even non-lockbox non-Cstore ships like the starter ships. Every one of my characters have them, but none use them...
Well, logically speaking, if its a DB issue then storing the extra ships in a separate DB would be a fairly simple "fix" so i would "assume" that this new system will be like a space "garage" where you just drop a ship in to a different inactive state which would essentially free up a slot, the issue with this system is that PWE would still want to make money from it so i expect them to start rolling out garage slots aswell, but this is all just a hypothetical scenario and is probably not what they are planning on doing, i would imagine that they would want to timegate such a feature to prevent people just abusing the poor machine it runs on
I guess i'll see how close i am when they eventually roll out whatever it is they have planned :P

Its not just the database. Its that the database was designed... Oddly. As borticus and gecko described it on priority one podcasts (different times) all your ships, even the ones you aren't currently using, are fully loaded every time you zone. So each time they have managed to make the database more efficient they have been able to increase slots available. But they can't just give us more slots because the inactive ships impact game performance.
Based on that, I think if they made a second storage as you suggest, wow, that would almost certainly free up a lot of capacity. I can also imagine it would help server performance, which might be why it is happening now.
How awesome can one person be to be the best forum mod of all time and YET have the time to win a music award also

Why would you even tease us with such a drink that would cause a rip in the time continuum out of sheer awesomeness?
Not sure what those are, but personally I was more thinking along the lines of ship slot 'sets', as it were. Aka, you're presented with a default ship slot set of, say, 50 ships. And if you need a ship from another set, you select the other set first (like flipping thru pages). That way you get a system that scales near infinitely, yet would put as good as no significant extra strain on the database.
You take 2 ships, and combine them, getting a combination of their stats, so if you combined a Galaxy X with a bug ship, you could get a tactical Galaxy, with better seating than either original ship. Of course, you lose the original ships in the process.
On the plus side, the new paint job looks like the iconian rep armor and has nifty glowing from lines you can turn on and off in the ship tailor.
Hey! I have that paint job on my ship NOW! Can't turn the glowing lines off, but nonetheless...

It's a server wide ship wipe isn't it? You're taking back all our ships and making us buy them again with a new colour of paint!

Ship Fusions? As in the Persona games?

On a side note, I've actually had a Bacon-Donut Beer. As far as Bacon flavored Brews go, it might be paving the way for others...
Does that come with a neat new gun? Hehe.

Well, I hope it doesn't. Seriously, extra character slots is not going to help me one iota on my main.
