Why would they bring the servers back up without the sale price already in place for the R&D 4 pack? How many players just paid 1000zen per pack in the 30mins or so before they dropped it to 800zen?
to help clear up any further misunderstandings.. i purchased 2 of the special event R&D 4 Packs, for a total of 2000zen, that is for me the issue here, surely they should have been 800zen each? if i had made an error and purchased them before the event went live i wouldnt have received the packs with the sheshar icon or have 80 lobi in my inventory.

The start and end times were probably set in the database separate from the server up and down times.
theres no database lol
and I can imagine there will be a zen sale tomorrow.
not really no, im happy the servers are back up early, thats great! but let me add some nice colours and see if that helps..

This event will run from May 21st at 9:00 AM PDT to May 25th at 10:00AM PDT, and features several bonuses throughout STO that will give Captains of all levels a leg up advancing their rank in the Research and Development school(s) of their choice.
Server got back up before the event started. If someone cannot read when the event starts, it is their problem.

The point at which i purchased the packs was after the event had actually started, so i can read fine thanks.
The discount for the R&D packs was applied at the time the R&D event started....
so why did i pay 1000zen per pack?
So where is the problem? Those who cant read (neither the announcement nor their clock) are at fault if they purchased them prior to the event going live.

i dont think im the 1 having trouble with my reading and comprehension.
or you could spit your dummy out the pram and not realize that you lost a few hundred zen, big deal, you can get zen on the game without much issue. you could spend the time you got now to be on the game to get that zen back instead.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

well the idea behind this post was to question this and find out if anyone else had had the same experience, isn't that a part of what the forums are for? so it may only be 400 zen, and that may be small change to some players, but to others it isn't, also its the principle of the thing, i purchased the zen, to purchase the packs, to try at the ship, i don't have much money, and this is really no different to being short changed at a store.
Oh come on.. I'm done over on my pack purchases <and> I missed cake.. That is just too much.. Too much I say!!

He was forced to pay more for the event items.
Was anyone else also forced to pay more for the event items?
How can he (and others) have this fixed?

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.

Well, his original post was an invite to misunderstand his intention, as it pretty much spelled like "why was the event not already started when the server went online"... After the first few replies he edited his OP so its intention is easier to understand.
With the edited OP he has indeed a valid point, but with his original it was really like "i bought the packs when the server went online, but the event wasnt started", which would have been a case of user error.
Dont judge without knowing the details
They started the sale and the special packs at different times, first the packs and then the sale. Ideally both would have been in place as soon as the servers came back up.
If the servers hadn't come up early this might never have been noticed, but since they did and the OP wasn't paying attention to the store price he paid an extra 400 zen, enough for 2 extra R&D packs / a half-crate.
Yeah, this would be my question. Did it show the discount as being active, but not give it to you? In that case, yeah, serious bug.
If it didn't show the discount, and you bought anyway, then....
8:46 AM PDT...server maintenance completed announcement.
9:00 AM PDT...R&D event scheduled to begin.
9:23 AM PDT...this thread created.
9:30 AM PDT...announcement made that the Sheshar promo is live, including the 20% discount on R&D packs.
So when did the discount actually go into play? It wasn't after the announcement, since the thread was created before that.
Was it shortly before the thread was created? The thread says half an hour...but the thread was created before 30 minutes.
Was it at 9? So it was a case of there being ~15 minutes before the discount kicked in because the server was up early?
With that, is it a case that those R&D packs bought before 9 even had a chance at the promo?
One of those trying to figure out what was what and when....
* If the OP bought at 1,000 Zen when the server was not officially online yet, then it's not Cryptic's fault. One should never rely on anything to be final until it's final.
* If it was still 1,000 Zen at the time the discount was supposed to have already started, then it doesn't matter the OP 'agreed' to paying 1,000 Zen, after all: he/she should have gotten the discount.

I guess my quip at Humanity was due to being fed up with the negativity going on at the mo. In game, on the forums and in RL. Although i have voiced my option on certain subjects, {*Cough ! Cough ! summer event. Lag). Time to get out from these 4 walls and take advantage of the sun which we don't see enough in England.
It's also possible the OP bought at 1,000 before 9 AM, then read about the sale after that. So when he bought early he didn't know there would be a discount in a little while.
Once he found out about the discount, we got the forum post.
If I'd done that I'd have put in a ticket and asked nicely for the discount since I'd hope they'd start the special packs and sale at the same time. But posting to the forums does point out the mismatch in times.
