"Manheim Device: Disabled healing interactions with past and future self in order to prevent excessive latency when interacting with certain Starship Traits."
Yeah. I thought we wouldn't do that!? I thought we had been given the guarantee that, yes, you would work on Trait lag, but their functionality would remain exactly the same?!
Technically you kept your word, of course; but now you're removing functionality from a lockbox ship I paid good money for.
With a vague promise that "This functionality may be restored at some point in the future."
Maybe only remove this functionality at some point in the future until you fixed the Trait(s) causing the lag?!

Does anybody use that console? 99.99999999% of the time the past copy with crappy shields dies, killing you. The two "copies" have terrible damage output, and die incredibly quickly.
I honestly am surprised enough people are using that console for it to have had an impact on server performance
The functionality will be coming back at some point, though.
Yes, this particular console is too suicidal to be of real use. The (partial) disabling of lockbox consoles, in order to deal with Trait lag, has me worried, though.
I see the exchange market crash on those destroyers...so much for a futuristic ship.
Easier fix would be to work on the lag rather than on the traits or a least give some sort of compensation to those who got screwed :P
Yeah, no.
Most high DPS players completely ignore clicky consoles, as most offer no passive stats boost. And nobody in their right mind would ever spend 80 million energy credits/800 lobi on what is essentially a suicide button.
Nobody buys lockbox ships for the consoles.
I wouldn't worry too much, at least not yet, now if further down the road we have another few consoles start popping up disabled as well for the "time being", then we worry.
But in any case, if it cuts lag in some way shape or form, ill support it.....for now.
Posted in the maintenance thread....
....one of those things why these kind of threads can be problematic. Cause that might have been missed without needing to hit up Reddit.
I don't take your word for it...rather just wait and see. Just glad did not spend any real or EC money on this one
No one cares about this console. Its a stupid console that never ever sold any of those ships.
Of all the ship consoles which ones really are worth keeping on the ship after you see the gimmick go off a few times ?
None of them is the answer... so who cares.
Although I would rather see them TEST traits for such junk before they release them... barring that disable the stupid traits or redesign them completely. Its a better solution then releasing TRIBBLE and then trying to go back and turning off all the previous TRIBBLE it breaks.
Seriously though this change won't effect server anything anywhere. I am pretty confident that at any point of the day you could inspect every ship in the game and not find that console equipped anywhere.
Hmm, seems Trendy left the maintenance thread open. That's a refreshing change from Smirk.
Making it all the more bewildering, that, of all consoles, this one was singled out to cause lag. That alone should have you worried. :P Cuz, in my estimation, no one ever uses it.
Like I said, though, I hope this will not become a trend; because, while this particular console may be TRIBBLE, others aren't, of course.
...I'm a mobius owner and I don't think its a stretch to say that it is one of the worst consoles in the game. No other ability, with the exception of ramming speed, is as liable to kill you without offering any real tactical benefit (Nimbus Distress Call minions are more effective.)
And this is a point I came to in the first DAY I owned the ship. By now I'm sure the rest of the club has reconciled themselves to trashing, storing, or (what I've done) equipping the console to the aeon shuttle (which won't be affected much by this change at all.)
You, sir, are wide off the mark.
It could be that it causes a large amount of lag relative to other abilities (not that is causes the most lag overall). No matter that no one uses it, if it can cause problems well above its puny station then by all means nerf the TRIBBLE! (until a technical fix can be found.)

This is hypothetical:
Suppose they are looking at server logs to find causes of lag, and they see that the Mannheim Steamroller console is causing 1,000 times the CPU load of Isometric Charge when the Be Awesome lockbox trait is active. Be Awesome by itself is not a problem, and everyone wants to Be Awesome.
Since there are lag complaint threads here daily, even if there are few users it makes sense to band-aid the Mannheim console for now until they can make it stop burning server CPUs with the heat of 1,000 suns. It gets rid of one lag problem while still letting everyone else Be Awesome.
But yeah, see, this is precisely what has me worried! 'Causing lag?! Even minutely? Then by all means nerf the TRIBBLE!' This is NOT a trend I want them to adopt, really. I'm all for fixing lag, of course, but not by disabling laggy stuff, one by one.
It's not ideal, but it is the quickest way to end the "game is unplayable" doom. If the doomsters are right, everyone will be rage-quitting soon unless the devs do some triage. Fix the lag now, fix the console later.
If you had the option of disabling everyone's Plasmonic Leech and it would fix 90% of the lag, would you make that choice?
Oh, I get the lure of just disabling stuff, in order to combat lag. Not exactly what I'd call 'fixing', though. And that Be Awesome Trait will make peeps look considerably less awesome when the rest gets disabled from under them. :P
For the record, there is no trend yet; and Bort gave us no indication he's planning to do something similar to other consoles. Just wanna make sure it stays thst way.
Trend-squashing isn't very useful though when you only have one data point. It could be that, while arresting attack pattern beta and the command abilities for wreckless driving, cryptic spotted the mobius console doing very rude things to a goat. Its a small act in itself, and one not liable to cause damage and choas at a large scale, but it perhaps could have been something so outrageous (in terms of the potential effect on the game despite its isolation) that special effort was still needed.
If after this cryptic tackles another man for not cleaning up after his dog and then another for running overime on his parking meter, that's when I'd start worrying. As it is with just one odd-ball quick-fix its hard to make a larger case. And given that these are just minor tweaks to a video game, we can afford to wait for the trend to happen before complaining about it.

Actually, no, I wouldn't. Because I'd know I'd be setting a very perilous precedent for myself, taking the 'easy way out.' Unless I knew it was truly temporary; Cryptic's track record of fixing bugs and/or leaving things unfinished, isn't stellar, though.
Now if they can only rework it so that it cuts down on server latency and people who think the Respawn Button is pretty.
I'd just be happy with a passive stat boost or ability.
I was going to post the same thing. I think you're over-reacting to what is an isolated and unique scenario.
Realistically, the mechanics of a small handful of powers may have to be changed during the course of our ongoing latency/performance reviews. But it is not a precedent we're trying to set, and not a solution we're running to as a primary course of action. It will be what we do only when there is literally no other option to retain existing mechanics. We're going so far as inventing entirely new power code in order to keep certain mechanics functioning identically, as far as players are concerned.
The Manheim Device in particular has been getting eyeballed for a rework for some time now, as we understand its many shortcomings. We could probably rework the Healing/Damage sharing to function just like it used to without causing massive performance hits, but we're more likely to take this opportunity to fix and improve a power that has already been acknowledged as problematic, regardless of its performance issues.

"Play smart!"
This is why I hate time travel. It's all about probabilities, what ifs, and maybes. :P
I just watched the latest ep of The Flash and I am mildly annoyed.
I REALLY appreciate that! There are a few things that'd be worth revisiting, even if briefly, and I'm hoping y'all are setting a new precedent of keeping old content/ systems up to date with new ones! It makes me immensely happy considering how much stuff I've collected over the years. When you get around to it, would you mind reducing the 7 second charge up on my crescent wave cannon? My Andorian escort/ Galaxy X/ Phantom doesn't do that... LOL :P
Nothing major just a bit of tweaking here and there would be nice...
As always, thanks for the great communication! I love it!
hey real quick inbetween modifying powers and the like, pls add a security officer on new romulus command
In general nobody ever really used that console except for ths
e set bonus.
This change isn't going to affect exhange prices at all, and in all honesty it's not going to affect gameplay much either.
Al it'll do is remove a means for players to deliberately lag the game.
I think you may be off if you assume most lockbox ship owners are high DPS players or bought them for the DPS. If pure DPS is your concern, lockbox ships are not really the best bang for your buck although there might be a case, ironically, for getting the Galor and unlocking Spiral waves for a beam boat build for an extra 7-8 free mods on, say, a Scimmy.
Even if DPS optimization is the goal, you're going to see that favor 1-2 lockbox ships.
The reason to fly a temporal ship is really the gimmicks. I know some DPSers DO fly the Destroyer but most have stopped and it's irrational since there are better options. The real advantage to any lockbox ship boils down to playstyle.
