Who remembers this time last year OP was begging for them to raise the level cap
I remember a lot of people begging for this. The only time it should ever be done is to reset power creep (how games like wow handle level cap increases). This...did something else entirely.
I don't want someone just hand me the levels. So I'm happy they want you to level up. I'm working on the last part of my Fed. Yeah its taken me longer. But since they are not pumping out FEs or other stuff to do solo. I'm glad I'm not Lv60 yet.
Then again it only hurts my lower levels. Cause I don't have time due to leveling my main 3. Which is why my Delta turned into a bank. In hopes of one day to get them leveled up.
So its a coin toss. I see the good and bad on this.

The whole XP payout needs to be addressed. Seriously, going back and forth the same old patrols to gain a little bit of what's needed to level up and get the spec point. If some people are stupid enough to camp Argala and say "gonna spend hours of my life behind a screen to get a spec point and fill up those trees" let them be stupid. I am not a casual, I don't have the whole day to spend on STO and after seven months I got something like 50 spec points, across four characters. I call this BS.
I need to get to him. I can't just leave him out there alone. - Sometimes you've got to makes sacrifices, Lara. You can't save everyone. - I know about sacrifices. - No, you know about loss. Sacrifice is a choice you make. Loss is a choice made for you. - I can't choose to let him die, Roth.
Umm, I made level 57 on my fed DR just by doing the story missions and minor doffing. Infact I stopped playing her a while because I burned out after the cardassian arc and only dabbled the basic Voth stuff and am sitting on Step between stars and everything after.
So my question is this:
Should I be happy or scared?

What's the train of thought around in STO these days... Ahh yes, I remember now:
Slow leveling is an adventure! It's a Featured Game Element! You SHOULD be happy your progress is slow, because that is an adventure in itself!
By the time I hit 60 I forget what I was doing at lvl 55.... jeez
No Idea who invented this idea but they should fire the employee for even suggesting a thing like this pffff...

A) You dont need those skill points to finish content
Flat. Out. Wrong.
I'm half way through level 56 and I can't do any more story missions until I reach level 57. I need 43,000 more points and I get a little more than 3,000 when I bother to log in and try to find opportunities to earn a *little* XP. Usually this happens when I run out of reasons to go to the dentist.
It's not about earning anything here I want to continue my story but I can't because some joker thought we spend whole days playing sto. They never thought of people playing this also have a job and a family.... I love the game but cmon I've seen the patrols I done it. I done the story arc missions over and over...
And this is just ridiculous why is it taking forever to get to 60 it so boring .....
Who does want to play long patrol stories over and over... I guess nobody you allready have to do this to get fleet stuff or other gear and even that doesn't give you very much XP either.... I wish the Devs could tweak this a little bit so it's going a little faster... Devs if you please, cause by the time I hit 60 I forgot the whole story have to replay the whole thing again to memorize it a bit If they gonna do lvl 90 like WOW I hope it doesn't go with the speed that it is right now pfff...
So who Agree with me on speeding this up !!! More XP earning to get a bit faster true the story arcs....

Actually, just play. My main will be tier 4 Iconian rep tomorrow. Just doing Iconian stf's finished pilot skill spec. I already had intell and commando. I only have 3 spec points left in command. I lost a few points waiting for new specs. All but my 2 new Deltas are 60+. Intell use to be my favorite, now pilot is....it takes my toons about 2 hours to make a spec point, if I push it....doesn't take xiv gear, just a decent mkxii build - regardless career. None of the specs are required. They are nice though.
Was talking about the specialised trees,pilot,intelligence,etc,etc...not the normal skill points you need to level.
But regarding normal leveling:
Played a lot of characters and i have NEVER been in a slump, never been in a hurry either...mixed it up a bit aswell, little bit of STF's,some stories then some patrols, now if you don't enjoy the ride you will have problems...
Yes and after LVL 55 you drop out of warp and thruster mode only you drift true to the next level...
Myself need lvl 58 I still need 1465300 XP to get there Max story only give at highest 1500 XP if you are Lucky Max Doff mission give is a 1000 XP because they nerfed it grrrr !!!
Same as the loose romulan patrols they nerved that one too where you earned 60 mark at the time you now only get 10 marks, Thanks Devs
And so I can talk on and on about this I just hope devs see this post and going to scale up the XP Rewards or lower the XP Gain a bit because the raid they roll out story lines I can't keep up while lvl 60 chars within my fleet can talk about it I can only drool and think c'mon hurry up get on with it jeeezzz....

My Delta toon is finishing lvl 55 just now, with 3 more story arcs to go before I even hit Delta Rising. I've only begun to do normal STF's, while I upgrade gear to at least make a contribution in PvE. Still flying my last promotion (VA) ship, though I expect to upgrade finally to a T5U before Delta Rising, just so I can survive the content.
I loathe repeating any episodes unless it's to complete a gear set, so I find no problems leveling up. Just accept the fact that it's not going to come over night, and all will be well...

Well I geared up all fleet gear so I do not really need the the gear they provide just want to continue the storyline but it is going so slow I have to redo the last episode to memorize what the story was about....

Tried everything from xp boost to doff assignments and borg red alerts to get xp fast but it just isnt enough... sigh...
Anyone an idea to get xp faster... working a week to get from 55 to 57... this takes forever to get the storyline done....
If you have an idea to get xp faster please share it .... with us
that's working as intended, but then its hardly taking forever if you got from 55 to 57 in one week another week and a half and you will be there, isn't "forever" stretching the truth slightly?
I was happy to get 1 level with each of my characters a week to get to lv60 and that was just with the normal gameplay I had done before they made the change without using any boosts at all.
but then I don't want everything yesterday, im glad it takes longer to level up past lv50, its just a pity they didn't make it longer to level up to lv50 while they were making the change.
all players seem to worry about is playing the story missions as soon as they can, you know once the story's are all played you`ll be moaning theres nothing to do anymore.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
STO is still hilariously easy to level up. I also play a certain fantasy MMO involving Rings and quests to destroy them, and have lvl 64 on my main after 3 years of play.
I started a DR toon one week into the event and he's lvl 58 now, and I just dip in for doff missions morning and night with the odd run through an STF (have played main storyline though). I work 60 hours a week and can still pull this off.
Yes 50->60 can be a little grindy, but people would also be complaining if it could be done in a weekend.
What helped me, I guess, was wanting to make my DR toon a rep sponsor for all my other toons, so I've been doing some fun rep grinding to keep my mark supply up.
Sometimes you just have to do more things than just the main storyline. You'll get better rewards and have a rounder experience.
Not saying that other people's opinions are invalid, just that they may not have considered ways to address the problem other than complaining on the forums.
Getting a char to level 60 means what? A couple of STFs and a few Featured Episodes become available. Once these are completed, then what? Back to the usual.
Parked both of my Fed chars at the beginning of DR. Wanted to conduct a test to see if I could level them just from doing DOff Missions. They both made it to 55 just off DOffing. Since I wasn't too concerned at how fast or slow it happened and wasn't paying attention to them, it seemed to be about right.
Ran my Rommie through the storyline. Had to repeat a few missions and run some patrols, but again it felt about right.
I did do a bunch of Foundry Missions with my Rom. Not the farming ones. These helped out by getting a few more XP than just doing Patrols and they kept me sane since I wasn't running the same mission over and over. After awhile I stopped thinking about them. Checked my Rom when I got in today. He has a dozen or so unspent Spec Points. I may get around to spending them next week.
When I ran my KDF Sci char through next, I had a pretty good idea about what to do. I got him to 54 first and then continued the story missions. To avoid any long breaks between Episodes.
The Spec Points are the New Shinys. Shinys arrive when they are good and ready. Not a second sooner. And just like with all the previous New Shinys, they come with bugs and being not what was advertised. They also get nerfed when they appear to be more powerful than the Devs intended.
My advice is to enjoy the ride. About half of the DR Episodes are non repeatable. Even after a char reaches 60.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
Going from Lv50 to Lv60 has took some time. At times I like for it to been faster, but I keep on trucking to Lv60. Even though I hadn't hit it yet. Due to what time I have for playing.
However starting a new character shouldn't be an issue at all. Even my Romulan jumped from Lv50 to Lv55 and that is doing the Romulan Rep, Dyson Rep, and some Dil farming for Romulan Rep gear. Now she is ready for Delta Rising. From my estimates, once I got my Delta character going. I should be Lv60 by the time I hit Delta Rising. Since all the arcs will be done. I will do the Romulan and Dyson Rep at least. And I will farm Dil for the Andorian ship weapons since I was going to use an Andorian Theme.

I'd say the rate in which we earn XP is just fine. The costs involved in levelling up, let along getting spec points, thats where the trouble is.
These costs should seriously be reconsidered. 150k for a skill point is well waaaaaaay too much. As in waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.
I'd say, cutting these costs in half would do a great deal.
Of course, lag would increase as well, but the gap between hardcore and casual players concerning spec points would be closed immensively.
The solution I like (and I can't remember who said it to give credit where it is due, sorry whoever you are) is to reduce the cost for spec points up to 45. Then make the rest be slow.
At that point you have a completed primary and secondary. The extras are just to have options to swap around or to u lock the crafting of manuals and of that's your goal you could unlock four primary manuals (only three in game so far) with this system instead of maxing out one primary.
That let's people feel "complete", still treats spec points as a build option, but respects the developer's stated goals of always having something to work towards (past 45 there's still 60 more spec points to grind out now with more to come in the future).

By the time people reach lvl 60 they'll be in the mindset of "but I've put in so much time into levelling, I can't possible stop playing now.
That's psychological torture.

It is a peculiar phenomenon that we can imagine events that defy the laws of the universe.
If that's true, raising the level cap wasn't an issue. Not when leveling was the way it was before Profits Rising.
