I would like to take a moment to mourn the loss of a valiant, stalwart warrior of the United Federation of Planets. For 5 years it has stood vigil over its borders, fighting against Borg, Undine, Voth, Klingons, Cardassians, the Dominion, and every other threat that reared its ugly head. Now, it is abandoned by its creators, in favor of its younger, flashier siblings who, by all rights, shouldn't even be taking its place in the pre-Delta Quadrant era.
I raise this glass of Aldebaran Whiskey in its honor. You were much derided, much hated. You were looked down upon and insulted, yet still you fought. Still you came to my aid when my hull went below 50%.
Here's to you, Typhoon class. Noble warrior, honored veteran. You will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace, old comrade.

Whatever happened to that design anyway? I think I read somewhere a long time ago that they were planning to "redo" the Typhoon a bit in design and release it as a player ship. That's one mighty craft I'd LOVE to see in the game rather then some of the crappy designs we've seen popping up lately.

So many pretty ships... but then that travesty has to keep showing up.
It was a blessing to the KDF when the final ship in each sector had a chance of being something other than that dreaded thing. I bet I've destroyed millions of those ships back when there was only pi canis sorties between Lt. and General lol.
In scripted events sure, like the Athens. But bossman, all I keep seeing in terms of 'a wild Federation battleship has appeared!' are the Presidio, Concorde, and Geneva classes. So while it still may appear, it seems to have been removed from its role as primary Random Battleship to secondary status like the Chimera (which hardly ever appears), the Armitage (which was the one that showed up the second most often) and the Vesta (which is a mighty odd choice of battleship).
- Fleet Support ability
- Photonic Fleet Ability
- USS Athens and USS Templar ("War Games")
- USS Hendrickson and USS Samoa (Battle Group Omega)
- Mirror universe battleships
But yes, it has been removed from the roster of randomly generated Fed battleship spawns. Which, as far as I'm concerned, is a good thing.

And what about revamped, playable versions of the Typhoon and Jupiter, hmm?
The Concorde Command Battlecruiser is basically everything that was good (what little there was) about the Typhoon with some Fuzzyprise elements thrown in for good measure.
Why anyone wants or would miss the Typhoon as it is is a mystery to me. I understand there's no accounting for taste, but in my experience, most people avoid staring at pictures of dog TRIBBLE, instead of wishing they could step in it.

The Concorde and Typhoon are apples and oranges.
The Concorde is a new shiny that looks like an Excelsior turned into a fat,
cheetos eating basement dweller in need of some Jenny Craig.
The Typhoon is part of Starfleet's line of Klingon War-era martial starships with a brutal, armored look. It isn't supposed to be pretty. And it only looks unfinished and crude because it's a NPC ship. If made playable, the basic design could pull it off, much like the Majestic, Monarch, and Magellan (and a handful of others) manage to do.
And for the record, I like the Concord and Geneva as much as I like the buff, brutal looking Typhoon. Which is A LOT. Despite the two newer vessels looking like fat polished turds. Everybody has what they like. And this game has room for all kinds of tastes.

Thanks for saying that!
I find the quiet removal of the old starcruisers much more worthy to be sad.
Yes the are spacewhales, blah blah blah. (joke doesn't get better over the years)
But they where the only good and futuristic looking Cryptic made Starships for a long time. I'd love to see them coming back at T6. (maybe as science cruisers)

I like the new ships too, in fact I bought the bundle; but the Typhoon has something the new ships don't...
did anyone notice while playing the old missions that there is still one last JUPITER class in the game? can't remember which mission, but it made me laugh

I love the new command battlecruisers; but they can't replace the all might Typhoon. She's been with us since the beginning...

Noooo! Don't tell them that!
Still wanting a playable version.
USS Casinghead NCC 92047 launched 2350

Yep.
I take it all back, game is dying, game is dead.
I'm sorry to people who I, in the past, insulted, annoyed, etc.

Thanks for the reminder.

Sweet!
Give it some love :P Make it a "bigger-er" Battleship... Give it two more ship skins.. (Hurricane and Tempest ?) And boom... you may have my $50.
I want to see an ISA vid of the San Jose leading four Typhoons.

Good, I love that ship. Now can we get a playable version.

Yeah, I had such hope when I saw it replaced by Command Ships in many early KDF missions.
Should it "accidentally" get deleted, along with any back-up copies, I'd have to send you some kind of gift.
We can hope.
