Even if keybinds could be done I have to say I'd prefer Cryptic's resources be spent making a Mac port than a console port.
In regards to the whole Xbox vs PS discussion, as an owner of both I have to say that PS is superior in its performance but Xbox has the better online service. The better console, therefore, is a personal choice as different people want different things from their games.
actually, the PS4 is a lot better. mainly because it will be a lot more used games friendly. meaning they wont have the stupid licensing thing XBone has, or if any sort of DRM is incorporated it'll be upto the game makers to decide, not sony.
I no, I cant believe that the next Gen Xbox will only play the games you bought and registered to your system.
I can see the companies loosing money on this.
Cuz we wont be able to trade games, and give others the oppurtunity to play something you already have, instead of just throwing the gaem away.
But yeah like i said, I hope not to see a great game like STO go console based.
It would just ruin the fun and take away the fact that its an MMO
And like others said, there would be to much waisted resources on converting to console.
And MMO's like STO have way to many keybinds, to try and convert into controller style of play. Again waisted resources!
"This is Admiral BumBleBush!..Captain of the U.S.S. Prometheus!..I order you lower your shields and weapons or ill be forced to fire upon you!!!"
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] "This is Fleet Commander BumBle!..
Vice Admiral of the U.S.S. Prometheus!..
I order you to lower your shields and weapons or ill be forced to fire upon you!!!"
Why isn't this going to be on the Xbox One? Well, because the cost of just having this for home computers cost cryptic/perfect world hundreds of thousands, if not into the millions.
If you have that kind of money lying around, I'm sure cryptic would be happy to accept a large donation to do a console port!
Also, you must think of this game (and all other MMO's) as a business. There are literally billions of PC's and laptops around the world, which people would play this game on, there isn't a single Xbox One out there yet, and they dont even know what kind of success or failure it would be.
If you were the boss of Cryptic, and you had one million cash left in the company bank, you spend that 1 million porting everything over to the Xbox one, only to find that it is not a success, then you would effectively kill the game, and the company, all in one go.
The final reason is this. PC's have been around for years and years. They are getting improved, but its basically the same machine. If Cryptic was to look at console ports, then they would have to redo everything in order to keep up with new console releases. Then what to do about the multiplayer situation? Do you have it, so you can have cross-console computer compatibility, or do you have separate social platforms for each type of console/PC?
Tooooo many factors to take in, as to why they wont do it.
anyway, the basics for controller tech are all there, all they need is a good Gamepad Scheme, in particular with shooter mode it should be a lot easier to do now.
Space Combat is a bit more complicated, but just a bit.
Anyway i'd try to go for the PlayStation 4 instead of the XBone, Sony seems to embrace F2P games more than MS does.
Cryptic / PWE is always looking for ways to get MORE PLAYERS into STO with their big updates, if one season was used to make it work on Consoles + finally add controller support for the PC version, i'd say they would get them some numbers.

I am not in favor of a port because I won't go near Xbox one, the non backwards compatibility is a deal breaker. Anyhow for a control pad scheme they could do it like Mass Effect, a trigger button pulls up a wheel of all the powers and you just choose whichever you want.
This should and i hope this never happens.
STO is a computer based mmo.
And besides who the heck wans to buy a new xbox or the new ps4, there gunna be horrible compared to the regular ones. Only thing good about the next gen consoles is the graphics other then that, it would be useless buying one.
Well, they will stop making games for current Gen consoles soon enough in an effort to force us gamers to buy the next gen consoles. Sadly, I have to agree with you about how useless the new consoles are. We can only wait and see what happens closer to launch.
Nah, they realized that even though Steam gets away with more restrictive policies, the majority of gamers are raging hypocrites.
I've never played any games on Steam. I have plenty of gamer friends who have not played anything from Steam. BUT, we do play lots of console games.... Not all of us are hypocrites.
To be honest, I have both the 360, and PS3. The biggest difference I see is that if someone doesn't have a fast enough internet speed to play online, but it's fast enough to stream Netflix, Microsoft will charge you their membership on top of what you play for Netflix. Also, my 360 account was TRIBBLE 3 times in a year, and I only played Borderlands, and Mass Effect online. However, with the PS3, I have had no problems with them.
With that said, if the PS4 can keep up the great service quality I have had with them, I wouldn't mind getting one in the future. And if they could put STO on it, I would love to get it.
I do understand though that there are improvements that can be done with any game, even STO. Therefore a lot of pc gamers would rather not see resources spent on a console. I would like to see a console version of the game, separate from the pc version altogether. It can be much simpler, configured to use a controller, and still have the heart of the mmorpg the same.
And, many game manufactures have done joint work with other developers to contract out some things to be done. And, the console version can have a lower monthly fee, cost the same price as console games, and the company make money off both versions, and still keep most of their focus on the pc version that is running today. (Besides, the price STO originally cost to buy was average for pc games when it first came out. That is what has helped fund, and cover pre-released cost on the online game that is now being enjoyed.)
Years ago I had to choose a console, instead of a pc because I could not afford a pc that would play the same quality games as a console. There are many others out there that are in the same situation. They have no choice but to play consoles, because the computers in their area are too expensive. And many don't know how to make their own computer. Till I was able to get a computer last month, I didn't have anything that could handle even the minimal requirements for STO, because I'm disabled and have no money. Someone else owns the pc, and let's me use it. Putting at least some version on a console would be awesome.
Leader of Elite Guardian Academy.Would you like to learn how to run a fleet? Would you like to know how to do ship builds (true budget as well as high end)? The join the Academy today!

I WOULD REALLY REALLY REALLY LIKE TO SEE STAR TREK ONINE ON XBOX ONE and it would be better than it is on computer because the new software in the newgen systems:D:)
Well, id missed this "one" (teehee), pretty interesting read.
What I learned; people dont like Xbox 1 , and they call it the xbone.
*way different situation here, but;*
You know what does well as a pc/console game...War Thunder.
Very different circumstances. But its the first multiplayer pc/console game I've played.
Anyone know any other pc/console games that are healthy and prospering
Sorry for re-necro'ing, must be the Diablo 2 Necromancer in me.
-Rule of Acquisition #113: Always have sex with the boss.
-I am one of the many victims from the hijacked Caspian Division.
I will not let the childish acts of a criminal ruin this game for me.
-The actions of Cryptic, on the other hand......
Too late one of the [redacted]s has started a new thread asking for this stupidity.
At the end of the day what does it matter if PW makes a Console version? It does not affect the PC players in any way - as you are not required to start playing on Console.
If PW thinks they can make some money from this - which is why they converted NW - then good for them. More money made by STO generally means more items added to STO.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
At the end of the day it's not going to happen for this game. As it currently stands this game doesn't run very well on PC's let alone consoles.
If PW decides to create an STO 2 that's designed to be used on a console they might consider making it playable on an xbox.
Or they can do whatever they want, even if you do not agree that it is a good idea.

plus you can just keep your PC in forever hibernate mode so you never need to loose the sign on once with any shread of connection issue.
hell even downloading a timestamp program would trick steam.
but TRIBBLE yea the sales are the bulk of the reason, that and the ease of buying certain things like Zen , or PLEX etc.

Oh, and an abacus version, yes.
You have a PC, why on earth would you revert to something like... this?
