Bravo Cryptic on the new PVE's (Brotherhood, Grathor & Herald Sphere)

snipey47asnipey47a Member Posts: 485 Media Corps
Hi to all at Cryptic,

Just thought I would drop a quick note to commend you on what has been delivered. From the iterations played on Tribble a month ago to what has gone Live were genuine changes to tweak and to improve the action!

I know there are little niggles here and there but I'm sure these will sort themselves over the coming patches.

I know there can be a lot of criticism thrown from these forums sometimes and I think there should be more these sorts of posts when credit is due.

Congrats to the STO Team!

Just want to underline Snipeys’ positive criticism about the delivering of three new cool PvE maps.

I didn’t follow their iterations on Tribble but had a chance to run them first time as final result with my fleet yesterday a few times. Especially the Klingon navigation through some of them is extremely refreshing and the missions themselves well done. Cool thing of you to turn in social zones into a war zones. Feel free to do that with the Academy or ESD in S11.

S10 is only 2 days old but from the first looks at it it has a good chance of being the best release for me since LoR. Cool PvEs, cool new reput, cool cosmetics and only tolerable grinding elements.

    Well done Dev Team.

I really enjoyed the Herald Sphere, good for parsing your DPS without lagging your gfx card like starbase 24

I also love the herald ships.......absolutely amazing looking things.

I tried those in pug, normal.
We fail at the ground one, because "simultaneously" is too much to handle for your average pug.

The herald sphere I didn't like because there is too many "cross the portal, and have a custscene", which cut the action. Other than that, its fine.

The Qo'nos space one was fine. But need some tweaks IMO. Like the klingon spamming about the transport. And not being interrupted when closing portals/radiation, heralds uses AOE a lot, and BFAW. Closing the portal is really difficult because of that.

Absolutely love them but please for crying out loud do something about the klink announcing transport progress. It spams to the point of burn out in a couple of runs.

I really enjoyed BotS a lot. Did it with one fellow fleet member. We figured out what to do and did it on Normal. Now comes the training to beat this on advanced.

Gates of Gre'thor is allright. You really need a premade to keep transports alive, because of those big plasma fire gates that spawn everywhere. You simply need somebody at each place, running back and forth won't help.

The Herald Sphere.... was a DPS grind fest. Considering I don't give a flying Ferengi's lobes about DPS, I did not enjoy it that much. The first stage was good for healer/crowd control, but then it turns into DPS all over again. And too many map switches. I think the DPS people will really enjoy this one, it simply was not made for me.

But farming marks through BotS won't be a problem at all, as long as you have 1 other player who knows what he is doing.

I've got the feeling that once everyone calms down and gets to know what to do it'll be a by the numbers run like the good old ISE.

OK, I'll assume everybody who preceded me is a 75 kDPS/ Ubertank. Me, I'm closer to an average player. Sci, drake Vesta build 15 kDPS, all gear mk 14 purple. Pugged sphere and qo'nos space advanced. Couldn't stay alive for more than 10 seconds at a time, plasma probes deal ~ 40 Kdps. Even less kill a single enemy, the weaker ones run at 1.5 Million HP. Either we are not playing the same game or you guys are monsters.

I'm calling these queues an overnerfed fail and staying the hell away from them until I find a way to bring my sci ship to 75 kDPS (unlikely to happen, but help would be welcome).

More timers, more required optionals and my absolute favorite game mechanic... COORDINATED CLICKING! Seriously nothing gives me more satisfaction that sitting down and perfectly timing a click interaction with my fellow players.

"Ok guys... are you ready? I'm ready... everyone say ready when they're ready... ready? 1... 2... 3... CLICK!!!" AWww man yeah get me more of that awesome coordinated teamwork goodness.

I wish they could make a mission where the only objectives were for everyone to click on the same thing at the exact same time. LOL :P

On a more serious note, it's cool that these missions are more focused towards premade teams than pugs... but it'd be also cool if there were some new iconian patrol missions or something other than these new queues that provided iconian marks. Similar to the delta patrols and romulan patrols.

It really doesn't feel like a war with just those two missions and three queues... having some iconians in sector space might help it feel like we're actually at war and provide an alternative to mark gathering than "premade team" focused content.

Herald Sphere is terrible. Enemy spawns are OTT (and way too close to YOUR spawn point), and the numbers of fighters, probes and gateways just make it too fiddly to deal with.

Gateway to Gre'thor is good, though.

Were you playing advanced? otherwise I have a hard time believing you. At 10 kdps it takes 2.5 min to kill the weakest iconian goon (1.5 million HP). And that is AFTER you take out those hardened shields (all 4 of them, since they have TT). Meanwhile, the other 3 goons (at a typical outnumber ratio of 4 to 1) should have more thn enough time to fry you. On "normal" I was also happily blowing up stuff and never died, but I think my build should be able to advanced, and in fact is quite effective in all of the old advanced queues.

An alternative explanation is that the msission was tuned down already. I played right after the season came online, and Cryptic id quite fond of "Cryptic" undisclosed nerf-ups/downs. We saw that plenty with S8. So;ill give the queues a try again tonight.

The portals may be difficult for other reasons than action by the Heralds.

Today on normal, I cleared the area of any enemies and couldn't close the gateways even so. I watched closely and my ship wasn't taking damage- the bar would progress and then just drop.

I did succeed a couple of times out of a couple dozen attempts or so.

Is there some sort of trick to closing these or am I the only one to encounter this problem.

You have to stop moving when you start closing a portal/gate. Then you close it every time even if the enemies are shooting you. Enemies seem to be weak in normal and advanced, so you should survive. At least I do.
Not sure is that WAI but it works.

So stop moving, close radiation portal/gate, shoot at the same time if you want to, when portal/gate is closed start moving for the next radiation portal/gate to close, and if there's none of them then spawn portal/gate.

And spam BFAW during the trip. Actually spam bfaw all the time if you want, just stop moving when closing the portals/gates.

So there is no countering unless you go with Intelligence BOFFS/powers/traits? I must scrap everything I have done so far an level up in Intelligence or be ineffective? If that is so I'm leaving. STO seems to be nearing it's life cycle end anyway.

Now that BFAW is a must for the new STF's it would be a good time to give Surgical Strikes it's firepower back.

It's useless against the Heralds so no reason not to give it's firepower back.

That is the kind of thing that pisses me off. There should be more than way to skin a cat in a game like this. Now it is BFAW mandatory because there is no other way to deal with the vastly OPed probes/gates. I use a BO setup (call me crazy), and pets/torps were never a problem, if there were too many I simply set my scorpions on intercept. But since S9 pets have become usless, enemy pets are way too powerful. I HATE FAW, hitting everything in sight also means aggroing anything I sight, which might be OK for a engi tank but not for a sci. At least cryptic could tweak FAW so as to not generate additional agro, but even so forcing everyone to use the same build is BS.

too many cut scenes...too many map changes just slows these new Q's down so much they would be MUCH better without any of this map changing or cutscenes

Cryptic should at least give us the option to turn all of this off if the players wishs too

in a month these Qs will be dead like many others mostly because they take so much extra time to do for the same reward as Qs which take 1/4 of the time

Game mastering skills cryptic !!!! Hire a game master ! or if you have one which I doubt start listening to him !!!

my first 3 runs were pretty fun in these new Q's but now after the new is gone I cant bear all these map changes and cut scenes

The cordination requirements make them very pug unfriendly as well so these will be very limited to be played with only premade or fleet teams

Too much time..................too much cordination requirements...........Too much dps required.......Too little reward for time invested for Pugs

If these were made for premade and fleet teams there ok except for the time requirement mostly because of map changes and cut scenes we are forced to go thru over and over
    Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
    Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng

JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse

I'm not going to support the development of repetitive (different from repeatable) content like PvE queues. Especially if 90% of them are plain dead.

For me they failed again, even more if we consider the bugs they pulled out of the hat with this season.

Tacs by definition don't need to worry about pets and torps. They simply outrun/outmaneuver them. Most sci and engi can't.

Yeah you really only need to have 2 people at a time worry about the Iconian tech things.

    Easy setup:
Team leader hits the primary one, the rest of the team fan out and whoever finds the secondaries first hits them.
Anyone not actively engaged in messing with Iconian junk kills Heralds.

Works more often than not. the only hard part is the short timer.

Fun fact: this map is a modified version of the Qonos social zone, and the devs forgot to take out the point where you can acquire an IDIC tribble. :P (it's a glowy spot on the ground near the targ pit) note that you need one of the old anniversary accolades for this.

Oh god here we go again. Sums up why the vast majority of PvErs is never taken into consideration when it comes to balancing.

Dude learn to read Dev posts. SS3 was overperforming every ability, especially cannon rapid fire and scatter volley 3.

No crying or swear of reverting that change is justifiable.
