As the title says i really would like to ask if it´s a bug that the warp travel animation introduced with the last sector space revamp is gone. The new sectorspace without walls is great but it kinda feels very lame and non-trek flying around between stars looking like your ship is flying at impulse speed instead of warp.
I haven't had a chance to investigate in depth yet, but the volumes that apply those effects are still there, so I don't know what's up. Won't be fixed for launch, sadly, but I'll look into it when I can.
I'm ok with the warp streaks coming off the nacelles and impulse engines, but I don't want to see stars zooming by. It's a proven fact that stars do not streak past you, even while traveling at high speeds. I'd like to keep a bit of realism in sector space if possible.

Both the "engine streaks" and the "warp field" (stars streaking by) are missing .
To be precise , the stars streaking by are totally missing , but if you look at your ship from the front , way back you can kinda see the streaks of your engine .
Sector space is also much darker then it was , making the different skins on our ships almost pointless (as they are mostly not visible there) .
... tried to have a convo with Taco a few weeks ago about the new sector space being much darker than the old one -- sadly he was less then receptive ...

Really? For me Sector Space seemed a lot brighter than I was used to, probably because of the new astrometrics. Although I was just in Federation Space, so maybe other sectors are darker.

The streaks aren't actually stars. They're a visual side effect of warping space around the ship.
It's one of THE most iconic FX in Trek and for that reason alone needs to be put back in.
The warp streaks are not intended to be gone. The volumes are still there, not sure what's up.
The lighting in sector space was darkened to make it a little closer to actual space, and to make the lighting from stars more apparent as you pass by. Can you not check out your ship visuals near a system?

Incidentally, and not really your department to begin with, but the darkness is less noticeable on the newly released Tier 6 Galaxy/Andromeda. The lighting on that ship from the windows/engines/deflector is a lot brighter on that ship, which makes it look neat when in the darkest depths of space. Unfortunately all the other ships lighting maps look quite dim by comparison.
Also I've noticed the interact distance for sector space doors is vastly reduced. You have to be right on top of a star to interact with it, rather than just within the radius of its planets. Might need some tweaking.

While I can appreciate the effort (in the accuracy / reality department) -- the effort itself kinda brings us into conflict with what was shown on screen .
So considering that you argued for screen accuracy when the space for the exterior for DS9 was changed (when I complained / noted my preference to the previous murky golden brown soup) , I now have to bring up how ships looked on TV & movies) while flying in interstellar space at warp speed :
I believe I made my point (I hope ! ) .
I also understand why the ships looked the way they did on TV... -- it was supposed to be a "visual feast" (a meager feast due to budget issues , but a feast non the less) .
And if I'm not mistaken , that is what this game is trying to be in every other aspect .
Sector space should be no different , and the players "avatar" should not be too well hidden .
I understand the part of you that is calling for realism .
Sadly , STO is not based on realism , but rather on a TV show ... , and the pics above show how the ships in the various shows looked 94% of the time (due to reuse of FX ) .
I have one last argument to make :
As someone who spends a lot of time looking at computer (and other) screens (and as someone who like many of your players , wears glasses) , I'm sure you can understand the ... appreciation , of anything that puts less strain on the eyes .
And right now , the darkness of sector space is an eye strainer , as players instinctively search for the details on their ships that suddenly go near dark (or complete dark , depending on ones setup) .
And on that front as well , the current darkness is a negative experience .
Can you not check out your ship visuals near a system?
By far not the way you could previously .
(bottom pic is the previous sector space)
And as I pointed out a while back , the "lighting up" (expressed by the shining on the hull on the side that faced the sun in sector space) was also muted a great deal .
(bottom pic is the previous sector space)
... and while I was hesitant to bring this up as it came too close to a ... feeling of extortion / manipulation of some kind ... -- I will point out that the eye straining experience does go somewhat against the stated goal of Cryptic (to get us to play as much as possible) ...

Can I suggest what's up? You guys scaled the ships way up, didn't you? It seemed that way on Tribble and I think tied into how you did some of the sector space changes.
Can I suggest what's up? You guys scaled the ships way up, didn't you? It seemed that way on Tribble and I think tied into how you did some of the sector space changes.
Did you ALSO scale the streaks up?
Actually , if I'm not mistaken they scaled the ships down .
.... if they left the streaks the same size , that would explain perhaps why up close we barely see them, but zooming out (on certain ships) , or just swinging the camera 180 degrees, show the streaks much brighter further back .
As is , there are ships who don't look to be generating their own streaks , but rather being followed by them (as the streaks are weak / invisible next to the ship, but it gets brighter the further you look from the ship) ...
It might be nice to use the options menu to be able to disable the stellar streaks while at warp. First of all, they are intended to be stars stretching past, but you can see them flying by in between the ship and the camera (which throws everything out of perspective, visually). Second of all, the new space revamp has introduced a whole pile of stars to use as reference points that I'm moving. I don't need the warp streaks.
Sector space is also much darker then it was , making the different skins on our ships almost pointless (as they are mostly not visible there).
Kind of makes one wonder why they bothered with some of the other updates, such as touching up the ship skins and tightening the field of view. I can't even see my ship at all when zoomed out.
... tried to have a convo with Taco a few weeks ago about the new sector space being much darker than the old one -- sadly he was less then receptive ...
Clearly you were being too negative, or something. Sounds like Taco is burnt out.

That issue may be multiplied in relation to which skin your ship is using , as some ships skins have a darker tone in sector space , while others (like the Narcine carrier) are almost equally bright in zone space and in sector space .

Ah. My ship was initially giant on Tribble. But I see what happened now.
I do suspect the streaks got lost in the scaling. change.
Now, simply rescaling the streaks MIGHT break Foundry content. The Galaxy retool broke the Galaxy Dreadnought in the Foundry. So we might need new streaks.
I don't expect each response I make to receive a comment / answer.
I was being sarcastic. Sounds like you provided them with fair warning. It's their choice to ignore it, or delay responding to it until after the ****storm has started.

The intent is that you have to fly to the actual planet you are going to, not just the system.
When we scaled up all of the systems by so much, it seemed really off that I could "beam to planet" from across the system.
In the shows (and those shots you've linked to) all ships are lit by a very strong side light, as though from a sun. That light source is ALWAYS off screen. That sort of lighting works fine for an image on screen. That does not work so well in an environment where you, the player have full control over the camera distance/rotation, all the way around the ship at any given moment.
The lighting that was turned down in sector space was just the ambient light. Note that the dark sides of all of those ships are VERY dark. The Ambient light, would have brought up those dark areas to be much brighter.
So, in this case, IMO, the best way to "replicate" screen accuracy, is by darkening the ambient (as I have done) and then flying your ship near a star system to get that side lighting.
As for your screenshot comparisons, the first shot does show off the difference in Ambient lighting. But I say again, to get the look of the show, you would rotate your camera so you aren't looking at the back side of your ship.
That rings even more true with the second screenshot, where the D'Kyr is significantly further right (and thus, the lighting is more visible) than the sovereign is.
Here is a better angle on the D'Kyr. Yes, the ambient is gone from the dark areas, but you can see the sunlight on the leading edge, the same as you could in the image you posted.
... OTOTH , the sector space revamp has been in the works since before the last year ended (something like 6 months more or less) , and there has been feedback & discussion on the matter of the darkness of the new sector space (as evidenced by the pics I posted in the bottom of this post) , so you can't say that this is a new issue ... , just one that has been disregarded ...
Really? I've discussed this with you on several occasions, and you think it's being disregarded? In this case, I have simply seen as many players saying they LIKE it darker, as I have seen saying they DISLIKE it darker. So I haven't been convinced to change it. That doesn't mean I'm closed minded and unwilling to hear people who disagree.
In addition, whenever you change something, at the outset there will always be an of outcry for how terrible it is. But after people have gotten used to it for a while, they may find they don't mind it as much. So, we generally try to fix things that are obviously bugs right away, but leave some of the more subjective feedback to linger a while, and see how it shakes out once people have had a chance to get used to it. If, in a month or so, there is a large number of people saying sector space is too dark, I will gladly crank the ambient back up a bit.
Sorry, whilst the Sector space changes are Awesome Sauce! The fact that when you arrive at the system you then have to manually move further to get into the interact position is annoying...
I think you'll find most people will start complaining about this once any novelty wares off.
Your point about beaming down from outside the system is a mute point, most interacts are to enter a system rather than beam down.

Agreed - plus it's not always obvious WHICH planet in a system is the one you ned to fly close to. If you guys wanted to make it so we needed to fly close to a planet, them you should allow the planet to be chosen as an 'auto-navigation' target as well. (And sorry to say with ALL the other glaring/immersion breaking elements in STO - a player being able to 'beam across the system - especially when it's 40 years after the last Prime Universe film is not all that immersion breaking by comparison. (IMO)
The Sector SPace revamp IS great work overall, but it could use some tweaks going forward.

That'd be great. The other option, auto-navigation directly to a planet, wouldn't work because of the stars at times blocking the path.
Not to mention the interact radius was very small even in old sector space for certain 'doors' (like the gate to Solanae sphere in Tau Dewa).

This, so much this.
There were some scenes where space did appear dark, like I believe a few fly-by's in The Motion Picture with the Enterprise and its many self-illuminating light sources. Some ships are better self-lit than others in the game and I wouldn't mind if some were given a bit of a touch-up to look a bit more dramatically-lit, but that aside...
Sector Space being dark and only lit when near stars or other light sources is fine by me.
