We'll be seeing that ship (and the Rom/KDF variants) very soon, no doubt.

It's weird, though ... they're nearly the size of my escort carrier, but they're treated like single-pilot ships. I do wonder what the stats will be.

Clearly, you didn't look at the future C-Store offering upon entering New Romulus, during the new FE... ;)

Well think of it this way, you can fit seven people in a minivan and one person in a Formula One racer or two people in a Shelby cobra.

Maybe it's the size of an escort but disproportionate amount of its mass is taking up by engines. Much like how the defiant was engines, guns, bunkbeds, and a mess hall. Oh and armor.

They will probably have a small crew for their size.

Most of the ships flying with you in Delta Flight. Fed, KDF, and Romulan, all of a new class except for the USS Bern.

If they follow the seating pattern of the Intelligence ships and Command Cruisers, the layout will be something like

Cmdr Tac/Pilot, LtCmdr Tac, LtCmdr Sci, Lt Eng/Pilot, Ens Uni

Maybe switch the eng and sci seats, as eng would make more sense for the ships, but Fed and KDF both have LtCmdr Eng T6 escorts already, and Cryptic did just give us a new sci power.

Hmm an escort style ship with pilot specialization slots and two forward mandibles.

And then there's the "let's blow this thing and go home" line in Delta Flight.

Anyone else seeing a pattern emerging here. :)

Pretty much, it's almost like someone took the Defiant, refined it and slapped more guns and engine power on it.

For me, the U.S.S. Mercury's looks have much more in common with the Paranid Nemesis from the X3 games: http://www.x-lexikon.org/wiki/index.php/Datei:Nemesis_X%C2%B3TC.jpg

I think, between the U.S.S. Mercury and the Phantom, the Phantom with her side-mounted engines looks much more like the Defiants sucessor than the U.S.S. Mercury.

I've been wondering if they were going to do a T6 Defiant. They did a T6 Voyager and a T6 Enterprise (Galaxy), so it makes sense they'd do a tactical escort and make a T6 Defiant. And it looks bad@$$!
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Mind you if Paris did have a hand in building the class, you might expect him to have tried to throw on his long denied "dynametric tailfins". :)

I keep throwing money are my screen but nothing is happening. Stats dependent, but if the layout is decent I will be buying that ship the instant it becomes available.

They're definitely in the pipeline, although I suspect that Cryptic want to encourge sales of lock box keys first, since the Xindi Escort Carrier (lock box prize) has a hybrid pilot BOFF seat.

I will wait. Is it here yet? How about now? Now? And now? Now? You sure? Go check again. Now?

It's a nice looking ship. I do hope it's the next 'iconic' ship rather than the pilot ship though. All things considered, a T6 Defiant seems likely; so if the Mercury is the all new pilot ship, we could end up with 3 T6 escorts that are all slight variants of the same design (Phantom, Mercury, Defiant). That would be dull.

What ship is that with a Saucer, Andromeda, Guardian, or is there more than 1 fed pilot ship?

Looks kind of like a New Orleans with Guardian parts from the angle, but I think that is wishful thinking on my part.

Thanks, I just got myself a new desktop image :)

If I had to guess based on the pattern of the Command ships, we will see a dev blogs on Mon/Tue/Wed of next week with release on Thursday.

Probably three ships for each race like Command, as well - it makes the most sense from an art usage perspective to make Tac/Sci/Eng versions to cater to as wide a purchase audience as possible.

I'm betting they sell like crazy; all three ships look awesome in the FE.
