What is the point of playing a static MMO? The whole point of playing a MMO is that it changes over time. So the experience I have when I start playing is vastly different than the experience when I stop playing for good either due to the servers being shut down or some personal reason. The PvP community needs a dedicated PvP team instead of it being a side project. Adding restrictions to matches would be a very good start.

Uh...for FUN? I have spent countless hours in Kerrat PvPers create their own content. I would be willing to bet almost every gamer here has owned or currently owns at least one gaming console with multiple games. The difference is in a MMO like this they don't get to rummage through my fridge.

Ok, so ignoring a million other issues with this idea for a moment, do ALL of those things exist already in the 1.3 build you say we should use? You seem to have missed/forgotten the part where I said that if we took an old build, and put it up, it is a singular thing. There are no modifications we can make to it. We can't make a new map, and put it into an old build, or adjust spawn points or power levels. It is an egg. There is no way to change what is inside the egg without breaking it.

Well which came first the chicken or the egg? Since it is obvious that we can only use one egg in the recipe for PvP then let us go back to the very first version before anybody had codes that allowed for advantages. Think of it as a Starfleet Academy training exercise combat simulator. Like you indicated once it is up and running it will require no more maintenance than what Redshirt is currently running. There are no modifications we can make to it. People will pay for it and it will not take away from the holodeck experience.

I would be thrilled with an old build on a stable server before any "Super Powers" or any of the modern reputations or traits. Seriously, give us a way to go back to the fun PvP.
    tacofangs wrote: »
No modifications to the build does not mean there would be no maintenance required.

So would it require a ton of maintenance more than what redshirt already requires? None of us players knows exactly how much maintenance something like this would require. So in your opinion is this a viable option for PvP as a sub?

Too late for this. Not even close to being viable for Cryptic IMO.

I've already said that I don't think this is a viable option.

I honestly don't know how much maintenance would be required, but it id definitely more than 0. While the build itself would be static, there are a lot of other systems, servers, etc. that it would interact with, and all of those things would need to be maintained.

But can't you just simply magick flippity floppity to the servers and just pour in moar power from the dilithium paradox engine?

Thank you for your honesty, don't forget about factoring in the cost of advertising on the website for two weeks. Would you be willing to ask your superiors how many subscriptions at $5.00 a month would be necessary to make it a viable option? We have no advocate to sit there in the board meetings to plead our case. There are many of us who have been here since launch who have spent countless hours PvPing who because of the power creep have either taken a break or quit altogether. We are the very ones who spent the money and were loyal to the game before F2P.
We just want a opportunity to prove our loyalty and spend our money on what we enjoyed.

Oh don't get me wrong...I'd LOVE to have a neutral zone server or even just a neutral sector space zone, something I would have loved to have had from day one.

For Cryptic stand point, it's just doesn't seem a viable option for them. As Taco pointed out there are at least some (whatever that amount may be) resources needed for what you want to have happen, happen.

The fact that Cryptic has done zero updates to PVP is probably a good hint that this isn't worth it to them.

At what point does Cryptic remove all PvP content? That appears to be the direction they are headed in. If that happens guess I'll go back to COD.

Heck I'd go as far as add in Romulans but not as a ally faction but as it's own faction. Sure Romulus and Remus are gone but that an't to say that the Romulan people didn't build a new empire (not the peace seeking republic), heck it's been 30 years since those 2 worlds were distroyed. Three way pvp is much better then only 2 way that most mmo's have gone.

Theyve already mentioned Season 11. And Season 10 had DR and the Big Five Year Anniversary in front of it. But they were talking about it as far back as December. Which was prior to this year.

I really dont know why all of you Doomsayers stick around. Youve said your piece. So now you can move on and leave the rest of us who would like to enjoy the game in the here and now, who have no interest in stressing over the end of the game, alone.

Urgh...again the beating of a dead horse.. Im convinced though that some of this has merit but first:

You peeps need a reality check.

Edit: this is not a rant btw more of a "how-to" post for those wanting their idea's to be heard by a company.#
Edit2: okay the first 6 lines are a bit of a rant ill admit that lol

To fully commit to such a project would be a colossal undertaking, even if it did see a return in an investment on anything to do with this idea there is a massively high chance that it will fail and a tone of resources would be wasted.

Do any of you advocating this idea even have the slightest clue about their financial situation or the size of their team let alone the hours and resources needed to do such a project....?

Seriously (and im not trying to be harsh but I see no other way to say it) if you want DECENT PVP stop trying to get something separate for your little "elite" group - yes you are a small group - and be more vocal here and I mean vocal not just some poorly thought out thread with rage and flaming.

(Yes yes, "but they don't communicate" "but they don't do this" and "they don't do that". evidently they do otherwise nobody from cryptic would post here except for trendy)

For pvp to be decent it would need a massive overhaul which i would actually like to see but it would mean a reduction of content, If cryptic pitch ideas to the community and you pitch them as well then you might see some progress instead of flaming them all the time and making demands or "requests" you need to give them something constructive.. & thought out.

Think before you decide to commit to a suggestion and not by just what you want but what would be best for the game and would be good for cryptic if you pitch an idea that a business and its partners get nothing from or barely anything from then it will be an indefinite "NO" or they will simply ignore you. THINK FIRST.

Honestly though. A separate server? are you mad? there are only a few half decent games that works with and thats because they have much bigger communities, swtor being one of them and yes it is half decent... and a damned sight more fun than STO currently. anyway im not a PvPer but after working with ESL (NESL for the americans) as a staff admin (not paid) on smaller games sorting out eSports matches and other things running tournaments etc the one thing I've learnt is that you MUST ALWAYS provide something that gives them what they need and thats money. If you provide a good idea with a good source of income and something that will benefit everyone more so the company then its likely it will happen. hell you may even see a reduction in cost for users across the board if the Idea is good enough but provide evidence as well this will back up your idea tenfold but it MUST be good and substantial.

If you cant do any of that then all these ideas were finished before they were even written.

Hey man, you just made the OP's point it works in other games and he suggested a VANILLA PvP that eliminates all the superpowers. The whole reason the paid sub for PvP is suggested in the first place is because the F2P people are FREELOADERS they want content but don't pay for it. At least those people who were committed enough to buy LTS show that they would support the game. Plus I think you greatly underestimate the number of people who would give the game a second chance if the PvP was fixed. Is it going to cost something sure... will it be worth it HELL YEAH! Give the customers what they want.

Er yes us silvers are freeloading scum by your logic. . .

With the amount I have purchased in game from cstore etc I could have brought around 3 LTS so yeh reevaluate your logic please.

Just cause I have chosen not to waste money on a LTS due to the fact the vet rewards are not worth the money does not make me a freeloader.

    Thank you.

I am personally hoping for a week long Rebirth event. Just to show how far we have come and for us veterans to remember the old times. For all we know, Redshirt will be shut down in a few days since it has outlived it's usefulness. If Cryptic already put Rebirth on the Redshirt server, then it is relatively easy to do it again for a few days before shutting it down for good since one day is not enough.

I don't want to sound brutal and say "Art Guy said so ?" , but Taco does have the occasional habit of speaking on things that are outside of field , and one can't always tell the difference between his opinion and fact .

Either way, once upon a time Cryptic told us how hard ( and / or impossible) it would be to "bring down the sector space walls" .
    Now we're getting that .
The thing is, sometimes Cryptic deliver things that we asked for way too down the line ... , and at times I wonder if we still want them to deliver said item / change / content so late in the game .

For example , way back when we were clamoring for the Klingon overcoat that high ranking officers wear (like J'mpok) , or that Nausicaan bladed gun what has a tractor beam in it .
If they deliver those things now , would they be "yey" or "meh" at this point ?

I just don't want them to wake up too late for PVP .
