I have tried reading all over the forums. I see others have had issues also. Have tried all that they said to have tried.
I have set up to run in 4k (3840x2160), and I have it running on my Nvidia 980.
Problem: No matter if I have it set in dx11 or dx9, or anything, it keeps crashing. Sometimes after just a little bit of play or after an hour or 2.
I have tried the graphics set low, high and inbetween. I really do not think this is an issues on my end, as I have other MMO's and high end games running just fine.
I just want to know that cryptic is going to work on this issue. As I stated before, others seem to have similar issues.
My opinion is that STO is not really ready for such high end use. This is a shame. I would rather give my money to you then (the other game).
I know my pc can do this, it has 12gig of ram, an Nvidia 980, a fantastic 4k screen, an i7-965 processor. The system does not run hot. This is an awesome machine. I run other games great. I love seeing STO set to maximum, but it crashes too much.
1 last Problem: This is a BIG one. When I go to reload the game, after the crash (even after i restart my PC), the settings are all goofy. It wont load (gets to 2 or 3% on the screen then freezes), or the Screen goes black, and wont do anything (have to turn off the PC) VERY bothersome. It seems like EVERY time it crashes, I have to set it to safe mode, just to get back in.
I hope this gets some attention. I cant be the only one who is upgrading to higher end hardware, and finding this problem here.
Do you have any overclocking going on? In the past for myself, both overclocking on the PCIe bus and on the RAM has caused corruption and crashing issues for myself.
My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.
What has made a difference, (although I HATE it....) is turning down the lighting in the game settings on STO. Now the game looks like TRIBBLE, but it runs. Sometimes it still hangs on the crypic load screen.
So, turning down the lighting in the game will let it run. It looks like total TRIBBLE, and in the evening (EST) the game is unplayable because of the lag (and disconnects)...

Other games still run fine.
