Is EptE ever getting fixed?

senatorvreenaksenatorvreenak Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Or should i say... nerfed?

This power has been broken ever since Legacy of Romulus was released, and totally screwed up PvP balance heavily in favor of Escorts.(as if they needed more advantages)

The result, is that people can build ships that have nearly 100% up-time of the power, capable of delivering punches but taking very little damage in return, but that isnt the half of it.
The worst part, is that it been a huge smack in the face for science ship, as Gravity Wells and Tractor beams and even Doffed Tractor Beam Repulsors will barely even slow down these speedboats.
Essentially EptE can only be effectively countered with an SNB, which only science captains have access to.

The problem, and why EptE is fundamentally broken, is that it not only boosts your engine power levels, but also gives you a "flat" speed bonus.
This means, that even if your engine power with EptE were to be drained to 0, you would still be able to move just fine, at a slightly reduced speed, due to the fixed speed bonus EptE applies.

Instead, any bonus to player speed should be a percentage based mechanic based perhaps on the ships speed rating, and a dynamic one at that, which would mean the speed bonus would become exponentially lower as the ship started to slow down.
Because quite frankly, Attack Pattern Omega and Polarize Hull exist as hold breakers for a reason.
You shouldn't just be able to keyboard spam a single power to effectively make yourself immune to holds and un-touchable.

Heh, you don't even need to have Engines equipped...Emergency Power to Imaginary Engines. It's kind of trippy, yeah?

Cant Pvpers in this game adapt? Because its the only image I see from the 400 or so left hard core PvPers in this game, unable to adapt.

Seriously, in another game, if an opponent brings a marauder, and you bring a battlecruiser and you pop, do you whine to the devs to nerf the marauder or do you bring friends and vamp builds?

Less whining more adapting. But then again, this is the only major activity for hard core PvPers nowadays, PvP in STO forums.

I let you guys have fun PvPing in STO forums.

Isnt EPtE already broken (for pvp) since two or three years ago? With I giving more than III or so?

    Honestly, just deal with it.

You don't see the irony in that statement, do you? ;)

Hrmm, irony's not actually the word I'm looking for...but I don't have enough caffeine to remember the correct word. Meh, somebody will point it out, so it's all good...

edit: But in the end, the Emergency Power to Imaginary Engines is the only thing that really bugged me about it. I know folks have complained about it since the change and all, but meh - I just get hung up in certain logic things, just what Engines am I giving Emergency Power to if there are no Engines? Yep, that bugs me...let the others continue their complaints about what it can do when Engines are equipped, I'll stick to complaining about what it can do when Engines aren't equipped. :D

I guess you ideas of adapting is a world exclusively of Healers and Escorts where Science ships are not welcomed.

Adapting to dealing with a speedster means throwing holds movement debuffs and disabling their engines..... but oh wait, turns out as mentioned, they are immune to that sort of thing.

yeah this is something adjudicatorhawk wanted to fix. A flat +40 speed is ridiculous. It made sense before the change at LoR because it only lasted 5 seconds but now it's game breaking, meaning one can fly so fast, latency kicks in and weird things happen. I wish I could find it but, adjudicatorhawk, said it was an oversight that never got fixed.

    In star trek

    Emerengcy power comes from the

    Engines !
    Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
    Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng

JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse

Glad to hear the problem at least has their attention.

I doubt it now. Adjudicatorhawk does not work for cryptic anymore. Borticus is great and all but they're down two programmers and I don't see fixing EPtE being a high priority with season 10 coming out soon. Also, before any real power pass, Cryptic needs to do the skill tree pass they have scheduled this year first. So yeah, I agree it's broken, but I don't see Cryptic having time to fix it any time soon.

What you describe in the OP sounds like EPtE with the doff, vanilla EPtE it weak to tractor beams grav wells and power reductions, which I good sci captain will apply together for a spike reduction in speed. For example: Energy syphon + GW + TB + BTSE perhaps using phasers to increase the chance of taking out a supporting system as speed tanking alone isn't viable with all the accuracy out there.

Now I'll admit when you add the doff to EPtE it reduces the grav well's effect but it's still not outright immunity. Even if you don't manage to stop them you can still reduce their speed enough that the bonus defence isn't enough to make up for other defensive weaknesses that come with such investment to speed tanking such as lower shield power and reduced hull healing capability.

The only real problem I can think of in taking out someone who has invested heavily in speed tanking is to actually click on them but that's not a balance issue rather than a UI one.

A shame, given it is currently the single most broken thing in all of PvP, giving pretty much any ship with slow or moderate turn rate and the majority of science ships the shaft.

Battlecruisers in particular suffer greatly, given that they can't keep DHC's on target most of the time. And the primary feature of a battlecruiser and its entire reason for existing is its ability to field DC/DHC's.

Escorts are OP. Science ships can't pwn them. Waaa!

Let me know when cruisers aren't largely relegated to the suck bin.

There are a TON of ways to counter speed and maneuverability in game. Plus speed not DPS make ... speed is only good for avoiding getting hit and maneuvering into a better position.

Personally, I welcome anyone equipping abilities that do more than just pew pew harder.
