Yes, let's have more playable species....to do the exact same things we've done for 2 years.
That might breathe some life into this game!
If I were truly interested in seeing STO become a better game, and enduring beyond 2013, I would avoid doing any of the following:
1. Asking for more canon ships.
2. Asking for more costumes.
3. Asking for new BO species or playable species.
4. Asking for new interiors, bridges, etc.
5. Asking for emotes, changes to character customization, etc.
6. Buying anything from the C-Store that directly supports No. 1-5.
When we ask for fluff, Cryptic will give us fluff, because fluff is easier to make, and they can charge for it, at the expense of what this game needs more of. More of, being:
A. Story Content
B. End Game Content
C. Klingon Content
D. PvP Content
E. New types of play. (Faction Controlled Areas, Open PvP, Exploration revamp, etc.)

Would be interesting to see what other species could fill out the ranks there, since the Romulans have pretty much ticked off all the other species or are ticked off at those they have not ticked off...lol.

Yeah, folks keep asking for Fluff and I have no idea why. Why spend 50 bucks on a ship just keep doing the same thing over and over. New stuff should be pushed out like the Doff expansion, new content and a Cstore item that improves said content. I can really live with that.

The game has changed fundamentally since F2p went live. The game is no longer about long-term interests. It's about short term gain, plain and simple. PWE is the new boss and that's their model, like it or not. I don't like it any more than you do, but would you rather have the alternative? Let's be realists here; STO would be dead if it hadn't been for PWE resurrecting it from near financial death. Another thing we have to realize is c-store/lock boxes are going to be driving the majority of the short-term profits so that's what we are going to be seeing the most of. That trend is probably irreversible. Think about it. The majority of players don't come on the forums and don't read our grievances, our proposals, or our concerns. They probably won't ever come on here either. Short of a mind meld, you won't convince them to cease purchasing shinies from the c-store.
Don't think for a second that accepting this reality is easy for me. STO is all we have now in terms of star-trek entertainment, so I really have no choice but to try to enjoy what I can about STO. For now, I'll just stick to logging in every once in a while to do duty officer missions and possibly some PVP while I wait until new mission content comes out again. I am trying really, really hard at this point not to lose my excitement for this game.
Would be interesting to see what other species could fill out the ranks there, since the Romulans have pretty much ticked off all the other species or are ticked off at those they have not ticked off...lol.
if u mean as species for starfleet and kdf cool, but as a seperate faction than probably not preferably because the KDF still needs more conentent like the KDF versions of some of the starfleet missions like "The Kuvah Magh"

I equally understand the fans wanting close to lore starships and playable races.

Aenar? just a blind andorian with pale skin, i dont see the difference between andorians and aenar.
android? that goes against several starfleet rules, creating a new race is a risky thing as well.
Talaxian? they dont care and have no interest to join starfleet.
Ocampan? that wouldnt be a good idea, with their mental capabilities. what happens if several of them decide to evolved at the same time and destroy the ship they are on?
yay or nay? nay.
we have other races that need some exploration and although im positive it will never happen, it will most likely be based around Romulans, Remans and Hirogen in Romulan space. its perfect to create missions and stories since the Romulan sector is rife in chaos at this time.

The Aenar should be fairly easy as it would just be a modification of an existing race with a few new powers.
Androids, this could be done, but with the new android BO I doubt it.
The Talaxian?! really. In this game we don't know if starfleet even went back to the Delta Quadrant.
Ocompan, the lifespan part might be a problem, but also the delta Quadrant part too.
If they added new races I would suggest Alpha Quadrant ones first, although.. with the new FE... A founder might be interesting. No weapons, but you can do changling things instead.. Just sayin
Considering we already have cat-inspired species, Lizard inspired species mouse inspired (ferengi... c'mon... the ears are obvious) and Pig Inspired species (Tellarites), I would like to request:
Along with that, I'd like to request more Borg parts, both the STO borg and the TNG borg for my liberated Borg... Even as a C-Store item (the one thing that would make me break my blockade of the store at this point)... remember to still allow the Liberated Borg to stand out.
You can't have hundreds of players running around as Androids or Founders without completely and utterly destroying the setting that makes Star Trek. Luckily CBS will never allow playable Androids and Founders.
Other races, meh. You can already make 100% Cardassians using the Alien "race", I'm not sure what difference it would make if it said "Cardassian" instead of "Alien".
The game doesn't need new races, it needs more content for the races we have

Ships and races are wonderful, and make the game better. However, is there really a need to keep expanding the list of ships and races, if people don't have anything to do with those new ships and new races?
And I know people want to see all kinds of ships in this game, but I have to question if we really need to see every canon ship that ever existed in a show or movie, even if it was wreckage on screen or we only saw a tiny glimpse of it for a nano-second.
Currently, we have the following canon ships:
Miranda
Centaur
Oberth
NX
Constitution
Constitution Refit
Sabre
Nova
Olympic
Cheyenne
Akira
Excelsior
Nebula
Intrepid
Galaxy
Defiant
Excelsior Refit
Galaxy Dreadnought
Sovereign
Shouldn't that be plenty of canon options to choose from? You can play this game, in it's entirety, 3 times over, and never fly anything but a canon ship. Do we need more?
If we get more, what are those people going to do, who already have 2,3 or 4 max level characters? Do you expect them to play through again, just because they can now access another ship that wasn't available before?
Seems to me, we need a bunch more new content to explore, before it would be worthwhile to level yet another alt for many people.
To be honest, the fluff does not take away from developing true content. Though I share your sentiment in regards to bringing more hardcore game content such as factions, missions, completion of factions ala KDF etc... I would contend that it does in fact take away from developing content, and the track record of Cryptic over the past year or more, proves that. The majority of what we have recieved "content" wise has been fluff, and in terms of new story and missions, was limited to 5 new missions in an FE Series. That would suggest a major imbalance, with 90-95% of new "content" being ships, uniforms, pets, interiors, bridges, boxes, etc. with the minority of content being story you can play through with all that fluff.
Yes, let's have more playable species....to do the exact same things we've done for 2 years.

well i completely agree that we need less fluff, (ie, costumes, races, etc.) however i think they should finish pumping out the canon ships, as hey, your favorite ship might already be ingame, but someone elses isnt. its not abuot how many are in game and we should be gratefull for it, its about having what you grew up pretending to be in command of.. i myself find three ships that arnt in game my favorites, as in the ambassador, the niagra, and the new orleans class. i would gladly get rid of every ship in the game to have those three. (one for each of my characters) lol...
ships are the most dynamic and important part of this game. without them 3/4's of the game is not playable.
however, that is the only fluff i would support being made, considering there is a completely different department pumping them out...
i coulddo without
-new races
-non combat pets (the most useless thing in the game) you add fluff like this when you find you have nothng to do, and i find it very hard to believe that anyone at cryptic finds themselves sitting around with nothing to do ("couphe" end game content) lol
-new hair tech, uniforms, and customizations, (this game is already one of the best games for it, save it for an expansion, get the base game going before you rework stuff that already works).
-non federation faction ships (ie, the galor, why on earth would i want my fed character, or klink character to fly a cardassian ship, i mean, its already been said that they will probably be a playable faction someday, why would you introduce a ship that is an enemy ship as a playable ship, while some find it cool, it breaks canon, and is awaste of time)
-new emotes, again, these are more of an expansion thing..
personally, we need more stf's (maybe actually releasing the hive after weve been told it would be apart of the free to play launch lol...
we need more endgame episodes that are more geared towards multi player content.
crafting needs to be meaningfull.
we need more dailies (cause i am getting sick of the same old day after day after day. (would be nice to be able to change it up. lol).
we need another faction and to finish the klinks off in the process...
basically, what this game needs is a massive expansion set. something that can add everything all at once, and get this game in gear...
What do you guys think on having new playable species in season 6 inclidung:
Aenar
Hologram
Android

Yay or Nay?
I have been wanting to play a Talaxian for a long time!
Krenim and Hirogen are other species I would like to play mostly a Hirogen not one you can create from the alien creator.
As for the canon ship request, I think the devs are running out of TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT ships to use. I think only 4 or 5 of the KDF ships were ever seen in the shows.
The game doesn't need new races, it needs more content for the races we have
The difference it would make for Cardassians would be appropriate, thematic traits, the possibility of appropriate bonuses, maybe a species appropriate offduty outfit from the dropdown menu (the way KDF races get them) and appropriate themed dialogue in missions like "Boldly They Rode" where your species changes the options.
Ships and races are wonderful, and make the game better. However, is there really a need to keep expanding the list of ships and races...
Yes, oh yes. You can never have enough of canon related material. This is the Star Trek Universe we're talking about. People are hungry for Canon related material, especially now that there is a severe Star trek drought on TV. Now keep in mind that by adding more also enhances the FOUNDRY, opening up an entire new world of storylines, adventures, and imagination.
if people don't have anything to do with those new ships and new races?
I completely understand your point of view and I share it as well, but to a certain point. I enjoy the starships and races in this game as much as I enjoy the content. I want more content, and believe me I do, but I also want more canon related material. This goes hand in hand with the foundry, which I love to play.
And I know people want to see all kinds of ships in this game, but I have to question if we really need to see every canon ship that ever existed in a show or movie, even if it was wreckage on screen or we only saw a tiny glimpse of it for a nano-second.
.......
We don't need to see everything, that I agree, but there are a few more canon ships out there that I still want to see in this game, for example the Ambassador Class, a tier 5 Akira, and few others like the Venture class. Fans have their fave, as I am sure you have your fav. It is only logical from a business stand point to also release ships and races along with new content.
Shouldn't that be plenty of canon options to choose from? You can play this game, in it's entirety, 3 times over, and never fly anything but a canon ship. Do we need more?
There is always room for more. Why stagnate at what is offered, when we they can add more vessels. Keep in mind those who develop new starships are probably a separate team than those who are working on storylines and FEs - someone correct me if I am wrong. However; I have a feeling that there are separate departments over at CRYPTIC, at least there should be.
There are many players here that love collecting ships, I am not one of them, but more power to them.
If we get more, what are those people going to do, who already have 2,3 or 4 max level characters? Do you expect them to play through again, just because they can now access another ship that wasn't available before?
I do not expect anything from them, to each their own. I sympathize with your argument and take nothing away from it, however; new vessels and races have nothing to do with adding new content. I see it as a separate development section of CRYPTIC.
I want new content as badly as you do, trust me on that. I have written many post protesting CRYPTICs lack of content, something they themselves admit to. To be honest many of the latest statement coming from CRYPTIC makes me think that content will be meager in the upcoming year, especially what Daniel said about the KDF faction, and now recent rumors about the cost in developing future Featured Episodes.
Seems to me, we need a bunch more new content to explore, before it would be worthwhile to level yet another alt for many people.
Thats a matter of preference. Some do not like to roll a new toon, others have no problem playing as a new species in a new canon vessel. Adding new species and new canon vessels will add more raw material for the foundry which in term gives us a holistic experience in the Trek universe. I do not know about you, but I rely more on foundry episodes for more story driven content.
It may be sometime before we see another FE, or even re-mastered missions or a new faction, if any at all. Daniel Stahl has already painted a grim picture for the KDF, which leads me to believe that a new faction will never see the light of day. In regards to Featured Episodes, its already rumored that CRYPTIC is taking the cost of production into account, which may or may not mean that we'll see more frequent FEs in the future.
I would contend that it does in fact take away from developing content, and the track record of Cryptic over the past year or more, proves that. The majority of what we have recieved "content" wise has been fluff, and in terms of new story and missions, was limited to 5 new missions in an FE Series. I agree to a certain point. Again to add more grim to future content, I think the lack of more content resides on the cost of development, than taking away from their workforce to develop costumes, ships and races. Aside from testing new ships or even designing new ones - it does not take alot of time to design costumes, tribbles etc... or even ships I dare say. The only thing that takes alot of time is in balancing things out.
I believe, again I may be wrong, its more of keeping the virtual infrastructure of the game itself intact. bug fighting, patching up, testing, beta testing etc... is whats draining man power. Its making the game work the right way. I believe they don't have a 200 man team over at CRYPTIC, its around what? 30 or so employees, give or take a few. I am not making an excuse for them, just being a realist.
Lack of content is related to money issues - time, and development cost
Hopefully with sales of ships, costumes, and species - it will help make revenue, which in turn will help hire new talent, which in turn assist with content development.
I would love to see Cardassians as properly playable.
Anytime I see Alien on my Psudeo Cardassians character sheet it reminds me a trip to the tailor and I could come away as anything and that I'm not a real Cardassian boy
Though the way things are going it seems unlikely as we have been asking for such since launch and so far no new species have been added out side of the first couple of months where a few options were put in the C-Store.
First of all, we have no reason to believe that adding more "canon" to the game enhances the Foundry, because it doesn't seem to get added to the Foundry. The hardcore Foundry authors have been asking for updates and synchronization with the rest of Tribble for months, and it seems to be largely falling on deaf ears.
Secondly, is it really opening up a "new" world, if it's based on canon? Canon ended in 2379. It is now 2409. So, by adding anything from 2379 on further into the past, we really aren't building a whole new world, but rather including more of the world's history, and in some cases, that history being added, doesn't even make sense. (See TOS Connie)
So I would disagree that you can "never have too much canon material". I think you certainly can have too much, if it has a direct impact on establishing "new canon" based on your setting.
This gets into a larger philosophical debate as to what the true intent of STO is, in the minds of the developers. Did Cryptic intend for us to re-live ENT, TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY, or did they intend for us to live a new adventure here in 2409?
Aenar -> akin to Andorians but perhaps with more powerful traits

Why can't we get playable Tholians? We have their ships, we have them in the game for long long time and instead of some Tholians we got precisely the opposite. Talaxians and Ocampa, which I agree were some of the stupidist "aliens" ever concieved. I mean come on Ocampans only live for nine years, this means that something which took us decades to achieve, that being flight on our own planet, let alone to the stars...(something which we are only now tentatively doing with our probes and still don't do with manned missions all that much) There's no way they'd ever become a space faring civilization as "advanced" as the one shown in Voyager episodes. And I won't even get started on Talaxians...LOL
No stop giving us fluff and give us whats already in game
Comments
Android Captains already have been nixed by CBS so they are out.
I'm always up for more options
That might breathe some life into this game!

Just sayin'......
Well said, I like the pvp content part.

I am trying really, really hard at this point not to lose my excitement for this game.
if u mean as species for starfleet and kdf cool, but as a seperate faction than probably not preferably because the KDF still needs more conentent like the KDF versions of some of the starfleet missions like "The Kuvah Magh"
yes and including more missions for the KDF like the KDF versions of the starfleet missions like "The Kuvah Magh" or "The Ultimate Klingon"
Yes to:
Aenar -> akin to Andorians but perhaps with more powerful traits
Um, NO to:
Android -> I really see no point, nothing to make it distinct outside of a twitch
Talixian & Ocompan - Hell no, worse Star Trek species ever created (anything Voyager -outside the Voyager vessel should be avoided at all cost)
Species that should be playable:
A) Cardassians - Both Fed and KDF should have them.
Edosian - I would like something different in regards to humanoid appearance ala Arex
C) Hologram - EMH type with that cool flashing effect. (Though hard to see one being an actual Captain - this one is iffy)
D) Peliar Zel natives - they are members of the Federation / very unique in appearance
E) Zaldans - hmm interesting? Maybe hard to do the web hands
F) Antican - This species I would love to see in the game - we already have cat people ala Caitian, why not dog people.
Though I wholeheartly agree that STO needs more content, I also enjoy the fact that I can see some of the the ships and races that makes Star Trek wonderful. To blot it all out would not make any sense.
To be honest, the fluff does not take away from developing true content. Though I share your sentiment in regards to bringing more hardcore game content such as factions, missions, completion of factions ala KDF etc... I equally understand the fans wanting close to lore starships and playable races.
Season 6...is key.
The KDF should be FULLER as Season 5 continues and before Season 6 launches.
Aenar? just a blind andorian with pale skin, i dont see the difference between andorians and aenar.
android? that goes against several starfleet rules, creating a new race is a risky thing as well.
Talaxian? they dont care and have no interest to join starfleet.
Ocampan? that wouldnt be a good idea, with their mental capabilities. what happens if several of them decide to evolved at the same time and destroy the ship they are on?
yay or nay? nay.
we have other races that need some exploration and although im positive it will never happen, it will most likely be based around Romulans, Remans and Hirogen in Romulan space. its perfect to create missions and stories since the Romulan sector is rife in chaos at this time.
Just sayin
Along with that, I'd like to request more Borg parts, both the STO borg and the TNG borg for my liberated Borg... Even as a C-Store item (the one thing that would make me break my blockade of the store at this point)... remember to still allow the Liberated Borg to stand out.
Other races, meh. You can already make 100% Cardassians using the Alien "race", I'm not sure what difference it would make if it said "Cardassian" instead of "Alien".
The game doesn't need new races, it needs more content for the races we have

Yep, STO Academy has their collection of "iconic" aliens: http://www.stoacademy.com/guides/alien/
STOwiki has a similar guide (minus the ease of downloading): http://www.stowiki.org/Guide:_Canon_alien_race_builds
I would contend that it does in fact take away from developing content, and the track record of Cryptic over the past year or more, proves that. The majority of what we have recieved "content" wise has been fluff, and in terms of new story and missions, was limited to 5 new missions in an FE Series. That would suggest a major imbalance, with 90-95% of new "content" being ships, uniforms, pets, interiors, bridges, boxes, etc. with the minority of content being story you can play through with all that fluff.
thes ppl see 4 lights and not 3 so i like in facebook like thes comments
well i completely agree that we need less fluff, (ie, costumes, races, etc.) however i think they should finish pumping out the canon ships, as hey, your favorite ship might already be ingame, but someone elses isnt. its not abuot how many are in game and we should be gratefull for it, its about having what you grew up pretending to be in command of.. i myself find three ships that arnt in game my favorites, as in the ambassador, the niagra, and the new orleans class. i would gladly get rid of every ship in the game to have those three.
(would be nice to be able to change it up. lol).
we need another faction and to finish the klinks off in the process...
basically, what this game needs is a massive expansion set. something that can add everything all at once, and get this game in gear...
just my thoughts..
I have been wanting to play a Talaxian for a long time!
Krenim and Hirogen are other species I would like to play mostly a Hirogen not one you can create from the alien creator.
I would reroll to play a real Cardassian.
I completely understand your point of view and I share it as well, but to a certain point. I enjoy the starships and races in this game as much as I enjoy the content. I want more content, and believe me I do, but I also want more canon related material. This goes hand in hand with the foundry, which I love to play.
Hopefully
Anytime I see Alien on my Psudeo Cardassians character sheet it reminds me a trip to the tailor and I could come away as anything and that I'm not a real Cardassian boy
Though the way things are going it seems unlikely as we have been asking for such since launch and so far no new species have been added out side of the first couple of months where a few options were put in the C-Store.
The graphics work has already been done by Verant Developers years ago.
