"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
The more canon ships, the better in my opinion. Brace yourself for the incoming hate of the forum trolls that must have everything their way.

On a more serious note here, as you guessed I not a fan of the J. The main hull looks like it's made of matchsticks and the goofy big saucer is way out of proportion with the rest of the whole thing. I know beauty lies in the eye of the beholder but I think that junk ist the worst thing since the yeager type.
I wouldn't mind some if ships would go into this design direction but the J itself is a horrible extreme of both skinniness and inflation which simply should not be.
I really like it, with the exception of the deflector dish. I like the way the ratio of living/working space to engineering space has increased dramatically, implying improvements in tech they can move/support/defend more ship with smaller engines/power plants/nacelles. I like how the engineering hull has evolved into a sort of spine rather than needing to be a whole separate design element. It looks both elegant and powerful, but a power that comes from intellect rather than brute force.
We've already been told no a few times by dStahl back in the day. As other have noted, the ship is way way way way too big to be in game. The thing is bigger than ESD.
There is always a possibility as far as ships are concerned, since new ships aren't going to stop being churned out. If not the agreed 'canon' specs, then something clearly inspired by them.
Could depend on future spec trees as well. If all of them come with 9 new hulls as standard I'd expect to see plenty more of them.
I think it looks like TRIBBLE and it's the fugliest thing ever seen in sci-fi since the beginning of television.
But as others have mentioned already, the devs have already said no to this since it would be way to huge for them to put in the game and make it playable and workable in context of being a player ship.
I don't see it as impractical, I see it as the product of an immensely advanced post-scarcity society where spending a lifetime aboard a ship is probably not at all unusual. Perhaps more akin to The Culture than to the Federation we're familiar with. It's probably essentially a city used for very long-term exploration, with most of its occupants performing societal functions rather than crew functions. An extreme evolution of ideas begun in the Galaxy class.

still, b-52 is compared to ent-j flying beauty and elegance
if you dont get it b-52 is called BUFF (big ughly fling fu*ck).
The Enterprise J was vetoed by CBS several years ago when DStahl originally asked to include it. As a compromise CBS agreed to a futuristic Enterprise for the game via a design competition. That is how we ended up with the Odyssey Class Enterprise F.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

that was then and stahl said a lot of things, things change, its worthy of being in askrays FCT though with a more upto date answer if there is one.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Ship is way too big. It's basically a flying space station / city.
If you thought the Scimitar doing a Rock 'n Roll maneuver looked awkward...
I think ginormous capital ships, like Enterprise-J, could work within STO. But the mission types would need to be revised to accommodate such ships.
I keep thinking STO needs to expand beyond the Milky Way, perhaps going to another nearby galaxy. (Let's pretend the FED, ROM and KDF find a technology that allows limited access to another galaxy, like the Borg Transwarp Gate technology or Iconian gateways.) There could be super-large ships to explore on their own, sans any starbases or supply lines. That means escort ships, or detachable ships, which go with the large ships.
An Enterprise-J might fit this scenario, although in STO game time, it hasn't been built yet.
Imagine Milky Way factions wanting to expand their domain elsewhere, or start a new faction. While the goal is exploration, maybe some, like the Tal Shiar, see it as an opportunity to start anew. Or we discover the Borg have expanded elsewhere in a gambit for their legacy/survival. (STO is far more focused on pew-pew than exploration.)
All of this is fantasy, though. STO is focused on the Milky Way, pre-Enterprise-J construction. I doubt we'll see any expansion to another galaxy. After all, we don't even have a Gamma Quadrant faction yet.
Really wish it was retconned to a much better design; even if it was closer to an oversized Guardian or Galaxy. That skinny body and nacelles really give it way too much of a hydrocephalic look (same issue I had with the Galaxy but don't have with the Guardian; but I like both designs better than Ent-J).
I guess I can have consolation in the fact that it's likely by the 29th century, they did away entirely with such an unnecessary design in favor of sleeker designs.

Judging from what I have read that is what such a ship would be for. It's multigenerational with parks, universities etc, and to get around onboard needed site to site transporters instead of the turbo lifts.

yeah since it was already said for me, Ill just quote
Ent-J as a playable ship? No thanks. Putting aside that they'd probably shrink it down to about Ody level in terms of size, it would be titanically huge compared to anything else on it's own, considering it is meant to be like 2 miles long.
A static object however, in a mission? I'd be fine with that. Being more akin to a starbase or the Voth Fortress ship.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Yeah, have it show up in a mission would be fine. As a playable ship? No.
The mission could be a time travel mission to the Battle of Procyon V where the Sphere Builders try their insurgence and they and Temporal Starfleet pull "hero" ships from multiple time frames to fight in that battle.
Our ship could be among them and we encounter other Hero Ships from canon... The Enterprise under Kirk, Enterprise-D under Picard, Voyager under Janeway, NX-01 under Archer (which would be hilarious, cause he would have been there twice)..

Why the hell would Starfleet make a ship this big? Seriously, I never got that. Waste of resources and impractical.
Then again... imagine this thing as a carrier, LOL... ability to launch four Oddy-class ships as pets, LOL.
all 3 are so big ugly so i can vomit every time i see them.

I would argue that the Targ poo sandwich looks better
