Tried to create the combatlog installed in the appropriate folder and then run another game following a combatlog 1 command - still no proper log created.
Have submitted a ticket - will wait and see the outcome
Cheers
This is also speculation but, do you keep the game saved to your HD or, do you launch from the disc each and every time?
With the disc, I can see where it most likely doesn't require as much files on the HD, as if you were using the software they provide to run squarely from the HD only!
The 2 would seem to differ but, accomplish the same task of simply launching the game client IMO.
Also it occurred to me, try seeing if your log wasn't directed to your compatibility filess section!
It may have duplicated some files here, that or, they could be hidden so, if haven't done it make sure there are no hidden files on your computer!
Until than, hopefully either we can find it for you or, Cryptic can shed some light on the matter!
As depicted here! (This squarely depends on your version of Windows mind you)

Glad something worked out for you and, you are welcome!
Also, who recommended the re-install?
In a roundabout way it was me. Technical support originally suggested that it was a 'gameplay' feature and so wouldn't give me help. I then clarified with them that all my account details were held online and once confirmed I asked if a re-install using ARC would be in order - they suggested I tried it and I did and it worked - there must have been some changes to the way the game was managed since I installed it from DVD's 5 years ago.
FYI - my DPS is a failure at 2500 so working hard on it!
Make sure your weapon subsystem power is as high as you can set it.
Get as close to the stuff you're shooting at as is possible.
Slightly less basic:
Try and double-up on tactical buffs/debuffs (eg, 2x fire at will/scatter volley, 2xattack pattern X) so you can ping one off as soon as it's cooldown is done.
Try and pair buffs/debuffs (ping off scatter volley at the same time as attack patter beta).
Getting a bit more involved:
Use keybinds, but try not to bind a load of skills to the same key; one key will activate one skill and queue another skill, and that's it.
Don't bind "fire all" to a key with anything else bound to it.
Set your weapons to auto fire, set them to fire at next target automatically when your current dies, set them to not target pets automatically.
After all that, then you can probably start worrying about how much gear and upgrades cost.
Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I have been recently been on a similar journey. After years of playing I decided I should get a read on my actual DPS, and I was kind of shocked at how bad it was considering the level of my gear. So I went looking at builds and shuffled a few things around and it went up some, but not much, and no where near what others using similar builds were getting, so I kept looking, then I found this. I had been using linked keybinds just because the number of abilities was a bit daunting, but I hadn't really considered making sure the cooldowns lined up. Just fixing my keybinds almost trippled my DPS.
I did wind up swapping some gear around too, even though what I had was good, it wasn't optimal, even though it was supposed to be what I was supposed to be after at the time, not sure if that was game changes over time, bad advice at the time, or both, but meh, something to work towards!
As for cheap gear, I get not wanting to make a major resource investment until you choose a main and a ship type, but you might want to look at some mission replay rewards. I know they aren't as optimal, but its a way I tend to gear my alts, and there are some decent items out there.
If I remember, it's "Toggle, never cancels" in auto attack settings under space region controls.
That is not the preferred setting I would recommend, best to set it at target change cancels or, at least non-combat cancels.
All too many times, have I seen people stuck firing away at gates, that cannot be killed, simply because they are having difficulties shutting off their auto-attack.

Something made me think that was also an issue, as they have made changes to the client files over the years and, even added in the ARC system which isn't as of yet really needed to launch the actual game!

tab key/right click. Takes about a 0.5 a second to switch targets, on the small chance that does happen.

Lol, that's provided people know about such an a key function.
All too often, I see people not even knowing what other keys outside of wasd, space bar, enter do in this game.
I mean heck, people don't even know that there is such a thing as a map, that can direct you to where you want to go, just by clicking on the [M] key, imagine that!
I don't give much credit, to a lot of the player's on this MMORPG, as the previous one I used to play, there are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more trolls and clueless people playing this game.
As someone who hasn't played for several months, i just want to say thanks to anyone taking part in this thread.
I found some newer changes rather confusing and it takes some days to familiarize myself again with the game.
Kudos to everyone.

Thanks Shadowwraith for your assistance.
Glad something worked out for you and, you are welcome!
