There is a lot with DR that is very, very wrong and goodness knows I have put in a lot of time trying to detail the problems.
And I honest to god wish they would take such reviews to heart and actually apply changes. But they don't, hence the situation we are in now. Folks are fed-up with providing great reviews/testing/feedback and having all of it completely ignored while broken x, y, and z are implemented on holodeck (for example).
If they (devs) wanted to make an honest effort to clear the air of this negativity and dev vs. player mentality, the first step would be to take serious and constructive feedback and actually implement some of it.
Before = time cost to actually move to whatever system you call home
After = maybe 1 days worth of dil to train your crew in everything they need (or don't)
So instead of perpetually repeating the same training process you do it once and be done with it.
So you held a ton of throw away boffs to hot train with... or you stopped at the closest exchange and picked up a Human or gorn with EPTS 1. For the amount of times I had to worry about retraining things.... I prefered having it cost me a few cents worth of EC.
This is just another blatant "everything must cost $" makeover that they can file.
I'm almost 100% sure he's here because of orangeitis, not for this thread.
It would take too long to explain but if you listen to priority one podcast or captainsmirk livestream, it's not hard to connect the two as hangout buddies.
I have 10 characters, and all of them leveled to 50 solely via PvP. I have not completed all the "content" episodes, not even on one character, and have no intention to start now. Thank goodness for the "skip" option.
But I haven't PvPed outside of a rare fleet match or Tribble test in years. PvP didn't break with Delta Rising, it has been broken for much longer than that. All Delta Rising did was destroy the illusion that PvP wasn't broken beyond repair.
I look across the game, and I honestly think STO is better today than any time since 5 years ago when I started playing in nearly every way.
But nearly can be quantifed, because there is no question PvP in STO is worse today than at any time previous, and there is also no question that in the beginning - PvP in STO was some of the best PvP in any space MMO up to that point - with the potential to still be true today in terms of quality (EVE will own quantity). Most of us know how we got here, but the question is - is it possible to get from where we are today with STO PvP to where STO could be with PvP?
Both ground and space...
If the answer is yes, please "revamp" PvP. If the answer is no, then what exactly is the point of having PvP in the game at all anymore? You know what would be nice? Someone from Cryptic providing clarity and intent as it relates to PvP, because snark from smirk is just more of the same.

So why dil? We weren't being pulled in enough different directions for dil sinks? I would much rather take the time to walk from the exchange to the BOff trainer on ESD or FC (like we've been doing since...launch?) then have yet another system that relies on dil. Finally, can anyone who paid for extra BOff space in the past have that zen back to be applied to this new system since that is now a waste of money?

Well I would imagine, "expect more of the same" was the intention of the snark wasn't it.
As much as we would love it if Cryptic got a clue and revamped there PvP. None of us trust them to do it right anymore anyway. Nor do we trust what they say either, at least these days they don't have the gull to come in here and tell us about all the cool things they have planed... or worse are testing already. lol Now they just stop by to give us the odd poke here and there, I'm sure its good for a few chuckles during there morning cheer.
Since Cryptic's idea of a "Revamp" seems to mean cutting most stuff out and leaving it barebones I wouldn't be surprised if PvP was removed completely.
Sad truth is, neither type of player comment will get a response. Unless he comes back for closings/bans, he is done here.
I would like him to answer the question as to why say something that gives the appearance of such insensitivity. Even if that has to go in another thread I want that answer. I do not PVP but that sort of thing impacts us all.
That said, I cannot blame him for however he is going to feel or what he will do to fully deal with the one individual who crossed a line that should never be crossed no matter how infuriating a game or someone else's ill-considered joke happen to be. :-/

I wish that they would back their words up with customer oriented actions. It frustrates me too. I have chosen the route of full F2P to back my words up until things change. Meaning I will continue to do what I want where I want, but give nothing in return--not even dilithium on the exchange to feed others' habits. Sustained improvement can change my mind but right now I do not have confidence enough to think my money would go to good use.

What on earth are you doing? And did you actually call smirk in here? Or is he actually stalking your posts?? I don't know which is worse. I knew smirk was tight with P1 crew and their fanboys/girls, but to this extent? That's just scary.
Call Smirk in here? he won't even give me his number!
I love forum moderators that have no connection to the population they oversee
its not like the subjects of unhappiness with the state of pvp in sto has not been discussed to death in the pvp forums daily, also to add, its not to hard tell who is complaining for the sake of complaining vs those that bring up really, really good points on changes that need to happen sooner then later, (or much, much later LOL) .......
Well I would imagine, "expect more of the same" was the intention of the snark wasn't it.

As a Ferengi, I appreciate the phrase attached to your signature.
I think your skepticism is well earned. But I refuse to lose faith.
You're so transparent. He answered your bug report about an TRIBBLE being too big.
Around that same time, THIS was going on. Not a single acknowledgement from any of the CM about a very serious recurring bug that affected hundreds of players. Oh btw, when Brandon was around he was our bridge of communication to the dev team when this bug hit time and time again.
By curiosity I searched how many posts he made in the tribble bug report section. Here's what I found.
Okay, I'm confused. What does this have to do with anything now...?
As for "knowing each other", I've only got to talk with him straight up when he popped into the PriorityOne TeamSpeak server a couple times for pre-DR interviews. I friended his work account on STO, and he occasionally acknowledges me on Twitch and Twitter when I bug him. I don't think we've ever shared a PM here. Does that count as "knowing each other"...?
The point is orangeitis, you're full fledged bull****ter, playing the fool as if you two are not working hand in hand. I don't usually stoop this low, calling people names but you're drove me there buddy. And I've sort of made it my mission to expose you for what you are.
Okay, so let me get this straight. You are assuming under very blurry grounds at best that somehow and for some unspecified reason, a fellow poster you have identified as your antagonist is out to get you and is conspiring with an authority in this forum who you think is also out to get you. All this without any regard to the chance that you might be completely far off base because you feel so strongly about it. Did I get it right?
If you think I'm striving for an environment where I can come into any part of the forum and have a rational discussion without being personally attacked, you've hit the nail on the head. But that doesn't have anything to do with Smirk. Am I reporting posters that childishly insult me when I try to have an honest discussion with me? You're damned right I am. But that too dioesn't have a damned thing to do with CaptainSmirk. If you think that I'd rather there be a fair and rational discussion instead of a PWI IS DOOMED PVP WILL NEVER BE A THING ANY MORE circlejerk, you'd be right about that too. But hey, if you still wanna focus on this wild goose chase, be my guest.
@ DDIS: You're very justified in your position. And because you've chosen not to take it out on anyone who doesn't necessarily share your view, you have my respect. Things have just gotten a little out-of-hand here, so far that even minor implications might start a huge derailing conflict, as evidenced in this thread.
I didn't mean to imply anything is "officially true". I just meant that IMO, it is reasonable to accept that PvP is still on the developer's 'things to revamp'. Yes, it does seem to be last on the list of things to revamp, but they do seem to be running out of things to revamp.
It's just my opinion, regardless. I just thought it would be reasonable enough for others around here to consider as well. Guess I was wrong. =(
They will never run out of things to revamp over PvP.
Never.
This game is hitting it's 5th anniversary, and you really don't think that in five long years they would've taken some time if they really were serious about PvP to do something for it?
Funny enough, nowadays they basically can't. Or rather I doubt they could make it work.
Most of the stuff they do nowadays is all about money and power. Usually both. And they would add at least one of those factors to PvP, if not both.
Even if for a moment there was some kind of PvP revamp, or let's just use the proper word: Rep...then it would factor in one or both of those things.
If they added in a power factor, new items, new rep traits, etc, it would only end up broadening the power gap between 'haves' and 'have nots'. If everything in the rep would be purely cosmetic, then a vast majority of people would take one look at it and say, 'I just won't bother.'
Even then, there's a huge gap between players...and if they got rid of it, nothing would change, people would declare things 'OP' whether they were or not. Putting everyone on the same level in terms of ships and gears would change nothing either, as some players are simply better at it than others, pure and simple.
EVEN then, no matter what they did or didn't do, or how the rep was treated, or anything else, those that did choose to do this PvP rep would do one very simple thing:
Take the path of least resistance.
By that I mean they would just farm it in private matches. Nobody is going to 'work' at PvP rep except those who are actually wanting to truly PvP.
Either way, PvP wouldn't be helped, if anything it might get worse, and on top of that, only bring further into the light the issues the game has, especially between players that have resources, and those that don't.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
no doubt. I didn't read his post that way-my first thought was "Oh, great, he's come into the PvP forums, now it's only a matter of time before he follows Branflakes out the door with everyone ELSE who's come down from Mt. Cryptic to socialize with us..."
What he said didn't look good--which is why I would like him to clarify what he meant. Best to ask and explain what it looks like without saying for sure what it is.
But if he says it's not what people thought and he meant it in X way instead, I think we need to be prepared to take the answer at face value.
That said, after the "incident" that occurred after he posted, I have my doubts he'll want to come back into this thread and it's not hard to figure out why.

Very nice response, laughing at players, customers, even fans.
Is this an official Cryptic stance on PvP?
Nevermind, (in)action always speaks louder then words anyway.
BTW FYI PvP is in such a state that nothing short of turning off the servers and rebooting, balancing, reworking and expanding will do the trick anymore.
P.S. If you at Cryptic think that PvP crowd is hard to talk to, just remember that it really isn't people's fault. Ignoring, punishing and now even laughing at your own players can't really be a good foundation, or am I wrong?
Riccardo had its ban prolonged to 2th February (+2 days), and reason changed from "Flaming/Trolling" to "Spamming". Problem is, it happened while HE WAS banned
Cryptic just doesn't like him I suppose!
He's still rocking War Thunder, keeps talking of Spitfires, how "Cryptic is like the Spitfire Mk Ia Hispano cannons -> nonexistent", trying to figure out why "Cryptic's going nosedive and wings still haven't rip apart for the stress" and "Smirk's like an american Catalina bomber: a trollplane".
Someone stop him from talking of Spitfires though, things are getting out of control over here lol
