Is the [Pen] mod working as intended with Antiproton?

All attacks with this weapon ignore 10 Armor Rating.

I grabbed a VR Mk II Antiproton Array [Acc][CrtH][Pen] off the Exchange for testing. I removed any traits that would increase either Armor Penetration or Shield Penetration.

For the AP lines, the two end numbers represent the hull damage and base damage of the attack. So we have the following.

A) 38.3308 hull damage, 277.846 base damage of the attack
B) 41.0575 hull damage, 297.61 base damage of the attack
C) 51.0193 hull damage, 369.82 base damage of the attack
D) 113.41 hull damage, 822.066 base damage of the attack

Against a NPC with their standard shields we can expect 10% bleedthrough.

A) 277.846 -> 27.7846
B) 297.61 -> 29.761
C) 369.82 -> 36.982
D) 822.066 -> 82.2066

We have the [Pen] mod, though, so we're going to expect increased damage. NPC's typically have 0% Damage Resistance. What % increase are we seeing?

A) 38.3308 / 27.7846 = 1.3795699776134981248605342527875
B) 41.0575 / 29.761 = 1.3795739390477470515103659151238
C) 51.0193 / 36.982 = 1.3795711427180790654913201016711

So we are seeing ~37.96% increase in hull damage from the "All attacks with this weapon ignore 10 Armor Rating." stated on the tooltip. This would be equivalent to around a -38.52 damage resistance rating debuff.

I also grabbed a VR Mk II Polaron DBB [CrtH][Dmg][Pen] off the Exchange.

Normal hull damage with bleedthrough:

% increase seen:

So we are seeing ~9.989% increase in damage with the Polaron DBB.

The expected increase for a -10 DRR debuff "All attacks with this weapon ignore 10 Armor Rating." would be ~1.0998926%. This closely matches the numbers seen from the combatlog.

This suggests that Antiproton weapons are receiving a larger benefit from the [Pen] mod than other weapons.

edit: Okay, it suggested that with the Array. The post below with the Turret and DHCs introduced other issues.

    would it be better test the different flavour weapons with the same mods and does this take into account the innate crit of the antiproton?

    Thing is, Crits, Dmg, Acc...none of that should affect how penetration works. I need some more caffeine, but I wanted to retest the Array angle anyway.

    The DC/Turret thing was just quirky with it being the third shot for both weapons that was like that...

    So it's not a case of it being all third shots, though two of the four cycles saw that on the third shot. Is it a case that each cycle has a double?

    Can look at that last line there and see...

    Was that the only one in that cycle? Yep, the only one. Did the second cycle have one too even though it wasn't the third? Nope, the second cycle didn't.

    Four cycles...two with it on the third, one on the fourth, and one without.

    Wait, the two with the third...did they perhaps have more than one? Nope, just the one.

    No clue then...there's no pattern.

    But hrmm, yeah - need some caffeine and wanted to look at the AP Array again. Will see what's there for other energy types and pick up a second AP to match if it doesn't match already.

    Okay, so going to do a mixed test of the original AP array I had and a Phaser array I just picked up. Both are VR Mk II [Acc][CrtH][Dmg]. Will just post the hull lines of the first three cycles for each. Not going to type all the math out, folks should have the gist from the previous posts.

    And I'm just going to stop there. That was the same array as from the first test.

    Could it have just been a bugged NPC for that first test? Hrmm, it looks that way. There was a Disruptor proc later in the parse from one of the other NPCs that was a 1.25998 instead of a 1.0998. That's ~26.17 instead of 10 for the DRR debuff.

    I was going to say I needed to go grab some non-AP cannons, but at this point - I'm just going to go to sleep.

    So if I'm reading your chain of thoughts correctly... not every NPC starts at 0 Damage Resistance?

    I would suspect not all have 0%, save only for the weakest of normal npc enemies but, I could be wrong.

    That wouldn't have worked though, because all the other shots were the standard no debuff damage where the line would have been (X * 0.1), X for those two numbers.

    [Pen] wasn't the only one I was testing as I was looking for something...I was had looked through one of the parses off the DPS League Table that didn't run Recluses, but there was still -400 to -520 DRR being stacked. Everything else showed expected numbers (even the EAP which I think is broken showed the expected broken numbers)...EAP, Intel Fleet, Disruptor, Corrosive, APB, Sensor Scan...I couldn't test FoMM. It wasn't until I started the [Pen] stuff that this thread ended up being created.

    But for that particular parse, I'd only checked to make sure there were no Disruptor procs before I attacked with the single beam. I hadn't bothered to check if there were any after I stopped attacking as I EM'd away so I could leave the instance. So I went back and checked after that additional test showed the same Array working fine...and that's where the -26.21 DRR Disruptor proc showed...so it was meh, I gave up, went to sleep.
