It's good to see TF pop even in here and in good spirits, and even better to see the flamethrowers have lowered their nozzles for now.
This is what we're yearning for: communication. No one seriously expects that all isses be fixed right away. At least no rational person. In fact, the larger the issue often means the longer the fix is my experience.
To mirror others, the artwork is great. Although I still suspect it puts a larger strain on older graphics cards (the 10 year old ones listed in the minimum system reqs, for example - and those system specs may have to be re-evaluated if they have not already been). The artwork, the look and the overall feel of the game is not being attacked here. System bugs, glitches and other issues, on the other hand, are.
As an example, where is the Borg Command Ships during the Red Alerts? In both the Beta Ursae sector and Orellius Blocks I have engaged in the red alerts there no fewer than six times each and yet NO command ship appears at the end. I am sure this is happening in other sectors as well. Any word on this issue and when it may be addressed?
This is merely one example but again I feel it circles back to communication. I used to follow the common issues thread but it isnt being updated all that often and, so far, you are the only Dev to poke his (or her, lets not be sexist) head into the forums willingly. Is there any word from up the mountain on increasing communication with the playerbase?
I don't assume I represent everyone else - why do so many posters on here assume they do?
I've been on both sides of this argument previously - the n=1, representative sampling, reductio ad absurdam problem of mining this kind of thing.
The thing is - I've been seeing drastically fewer members of our very large fleet playing since DR. And checking in to see where people are, they're camping hubs. If they are in instances that are actually gameplay activities - it's typically in one of only a handful of instances.
I'd be willing to bet that Cryptic's datamining shows similar patterns - less net activity numbers. What activity players are engaging in, is funneled into a diminishing number of activities - grinding a select few systems for XP, or maybe Dyson BZ for dilithium.
Based on what? Look at the PvE queues. With two major exceptions (maybe three or four on the weekends), they've dried up.
If this is true, that should be an alarm bell - especially if it's as widespread as I'd suspect.
There are all manner of things we can try point to as potential causes or potential solutions. And we'll see how that bears out in coming content updates.
But the first step is admitting there's a problem.

im a longtime player but rarely posted until DR hit. My respect to Taco and anyone else at Cryptic who have tried to engage more in the last month or so.
The reason the sigs got a response (which was just my own personal response, btw. Not an edict from on high) was just that they were the most abundant/persistent/obvious thing at the time. All of the "Cryptic Sucks," "Craptic," "Lazy Devs" stuff is equally tiring, but the sigs were just a little more in your (my) face about it, so that's what I chose to bring up. End of story.
Hmmm .
For me , sigs are something I can scroll over and ignore (I often do , as I have little interest in Fleet promotions , your-captain-as-a-doff promos) and other stuff ppl sport in their sigs .
Other times , I download a memorable sig just because it either amuses me or I think it will be a fun way to remember STO after it's demise .
Thus , as I read your response above , I could not refrain from a sensation of mild irony that it is the artist on the team that can't let go of other ppl's 'art' and finds it "in his face" , and it is him that has to gripe about it .
.. but I accept and welcome your gripes in the name of free speech . Yet at the same time I can't help to be irked that when we (ok , when I) gripe about ... say the art of STO , nothing actually get's addressed (beyond words at best) . Fate of a player VS fate of a Dev I guess ...
Absolutely. If my name were not yellow, I would have been told to shut up, and immediately dismissed, and everything would have carried on. I fully admit that the only reason my words had impact is because of the color of my name. I'm not sure what to say/do about that though. That's just the nature of things here.
Thanks markhawkman. It was the prototype for the Christmas card I sent my nieces. Once the holidays wound down I removed it because it was seasonal. I'm planning to do something that showcases my captains to replace it in the future. I'm glad someone appreciated it and if you did it demonstrates a sig can be enjoyed without attacking others. Goblyn was getting tired of looking at it though so I had to recognize the joke had run it's course .

Mine is a reference to a TV show most people on the board have probably never seen. :P And no it's NOT connected to HYDRA.

Mine links to my DR review. I do not feel I need to take it down because I stand by what I said and IMO made an effort to avoid personal attacks or ascribing nasty motives to people while still dealing with the problems. And where things have been good, I have said so.
(Coming back to mind now is the Kobali arc...and it has been interesting watching that whole controversy flare up again. Some are even threatening to quit over that whereas I suspect Cryptic DOES recognize how creepy it is and is very knowingly fostering the controversy. Personally I think they are making the right choice to really show how creepy it is. I still think that my "Ferengi solution" would solve it quite agreeably though. Whether or not you'd agree with a Ferengi selling his/her remains to them, it would be a consenting act that is not too far off from prevailing Ferengi culture. The creepy/coercive element would be gone.

I don't think that's entirely accurate. Mostly accurate, though.
Even with your gold name you still have people telling you that you're garbage, your employer is garbage, your work is garbage, and the fact you continue to exist is an affront to society. Not many people, but they do crop up when they feel it's important to be edgy by confronting you directly on the internet forums.
"Hey guys, look what I said directly to a Cryptic Dev! LOLZ!" "Yeah, right on! You tell that guy who I don't know or what he does at Cryptic that everything sucks! Now let's go do Argala some more..."
Similarly, even though I have said many of the same things you have said, I do have people trying to shout me down and attempt to refute my statements through ad hominem attacks. That I'm a Cryptic apolofanboywhiteknightist for not being willing to jump on the bandwagon of hate.
At the same time though, I do have people on the forums here who have disagreed with me (and vice versa) before who similarly can find common lines of communication they agree with me on.
And I do have people who agree with me on a fairly regular basis or at least find some of my quips to be humorous.
I would say it's more pronounced for you, having a gold name. But the forums aren't as polarized as they seem (but to be fair, they are very polarized most of the time).
Clearly I'm a glutton for punishment. Glad people are pleased by that. :P
First off, no one wants to silence you. As I've said before, you're free to say anything that doesn't violate the forum rules. That goes for your sig as well.

What message? The "message" that some folks just love to complain and whine, but can't be bothered to specify what the hell it is they want to complain and whine about?
Because that's the sort of behavior that used to get my kid in trouble, when he was about five years old...
So you are basically saying that the sigs did their job,the message finally hit home...
Uh no. He commented about it because it's in his face. That isn't exactly a good thing. If something gets repetitive and annoying you tend to block it out and ignore it, or the person posting. That isn't exactly what people want but that's how I would view these things. Sure they were funny, and that thread we had about it was an awesome showcase of some creative work, but it got old.
Everyone has to remember - the devs aren't required to post on these forums at all. So pushing them more and more away does the opposite to what people want which is active, dev to player interaction.

Players have been very vocal, both civil and angry,on all the things wrong with DR....and Cryptic decided to ignore all of it.The only thing left for players to do was to protest...and the sigs was a way to do it.
You may not agree with them or the way they chose to do it....it doesn't make it invalid.

I don't know, the feedback didn't get any response whatsoever, the sigs did, which is sad. Of course Taco is the last dev responsible for any of the complaints about DR. which is probably the reason people like him so much.

Volunteer moderators policing the forums is like a mall cop trying to convince someone that while they can pick their nose in the mall their "act of protest" just makes them look sad.
I don't know, the feedback didn't get any response whatsoever, the sigs did, which is sad. Of course Taco is the last dev responsible for any of the complaints about DR. which is probably the reason people like him so much.
That's because the feedback was to the method of 'protest', not the protest itself. He decided to spend his time and energy pointing out to all of us what our parents and teachers taught us from childhood.
It's okay to complain. I complain. Everybody complains about something at some point. I complain about things I dislike about STO.
The signatures weren't pointing at anything specific. It was a general feeling of unhappiness. Instead of providing specific feedback, they decided to go with this meme even though it really didn't say anything other than "I'm unhappy but I don't know how to communicate why. So, instead I'm going to insult you guys and it's your fault for not being able to read my mind or have a sense of humor about a 'joke' written at your expense."
Babies do that. That's called crying. When they're unhappy about something but their minds are too undeveloped for them to communicate specifically what they are upset over. Maybe they need a diaper change, maybe they need a bottle. Maybe they need a toy. Maybe they're fussy and just need a nap.
That's what the "Delta Rising is the best..." consisted of. A lot of noise over something people are too uncreative to put into specifics.
