I'd be amazed if we haven't all been there at some point - especially if we've been flying a Republic Cruiser. Not a Republic player? Then you've probably come across a Scimitar in sector space that is either stuck in a crowd, or it is instead blocking you in - unintentionally of course.
I would like to suggest a sector space feature that enables our ships to ghost - think of it as the phase cloak from the Pegasus in TNG. Ths feature would pretty much allow all ships to fly through sector space without having to navigate each other. It ain't so much a problem for smaller ships, but as already stated, anyone flying a Republic Cruiser (the Na'nom or Ha'pax), a Deridex or Scimitar, or maybe some of the larger KDF Cruisers can run into trouble trying to navigate their way in and out of space social zones because of the crowding.
The hell? You can't use an unofficial source scattered with non-cannon designs as proof for a size comparison.
Sure he can. TRIBBLE the non-canon designs (those are from the FASA RPG, I think), but the comparison between the D'D and the Scimitar is accurate. Nemesis gave its dimensions as 890 meters long and 1350 meters wide. Meanwhile the DS9 Technical Manual gives the D'D as 1041 meters long and 772 meters wide.
So the D'D is correctly scaled. It's longer than the Scimitar, but the Scimitar is wider.

4. shrinking the ships to < 25% of their current size and fiddling the FoV would make the current stars and maps looks huge in comparison to the ships.

Yes, this is correct, don't know if in this game the scale of the scimitar is bigger than the DD, if it is, it should be the other way around, or at least, have the same relative size.

Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
Actually, you've got it spot on!
Incorrect.

The best example of comparison that I've seen - one that is detailed and thorough is that via http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/index.htm
Specifically, type this into your browser (the site doesn't like hotlinking) http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/schematics/alien-huge-chart.jpg

Agreed; anything to get away from the claustrophobia of this confined space.
No, the zoom should still be on the ships. The stars on the other hand would be ...bigger.

as a scimitar pilot I approve ghost mode too.
