So, I offered to help a fellow Galaxy user test his build in a duel the other day. Very first thing he uses is boarding party. Now, since I don't use tac team, or other consoles/abilities that would eliminate the shuttles, I switch targets and start shooting. I expected the misses. What I didn't expect was how damn strong their hulls were. I remember she. A single shot would take out a shuttle. Now that wasn't very realistic, according to Trek canon. But having to go through several rounds of firing and even torpedos to kill them seems like a bit much to me. Did Cryptic not have anywhere to put all the extra hull points they took off hangsr pets, and decided to give them to boarding party shuttles? Does anyone else think this needs a redo?

If you get the correct Doff, boarding party shuttles are armed

I know the doff you're talking about. The flavor text says nothing about armoring the shuttles.
"Great War! / And I cannot take more! / Great tour! / I keep on marching on / I play the great score / There will be no encore / Great War! / The War to End All Wars"

I run without TT on a few ships but I use a transporter doff. The changes to boarding party has made them at least a little useful. What happened is you weren't prepared for that power. Just make a few adjustments. Either use TT or the transporter doff. The shuttles are fine
I took out 3 scorpion fighters at once with a shuttle, and later a light warbird. I don't think I've ever managed the heavy warbird though, despite trying with tac eng and sci captains.
BFAW really doesn't need to be an IWIN button in yet another situation.
Thing is, wouldn't this be the more appropriate place for it to be used than the countless other places that it is used? Clearing up all those small things flying around, whether fighters, shuttles, targetable torps, or mines and the like...? Not the current way where it's clearing up everything. Might be just the kind of reminder the devs need about it...

both excellent points
and boarding parties? the ability that is like, never ever ever ever used?
I'm very happy to hear that it could potentially survive a FAW, maybe there will be some variety out there
Picard would be proud! Shinzon would've hated you!
Heh, sometimes I'd troll with them. SNB the TT when it's first dropped out to maximize the downtime and unleash the Party while close. Heh, the sound they make while launching...wheeeee!
Heh, imagine somebody in a Sheshar, eh? Drop out the Assault Vessel, drop out the Monbosh pets, drop out two flights of fighters from the hangar, drop out Nimbus, drop out Photonic, and then drop out the Board Parties...

I wish skills like Boarding party were worth using. I remember when I first started STO the sound of the ability was cool. So I used it.
Also the main reason I made a klingon originally was they had a FDC Murauder, That had a hanger of ships that steal crew and Commodities. The thought of doing that and launching Boarding Party shuttles, etc. Sounded like fun. I can be a Pirate in STAR TREK! WAHOO!
Tractor beam, Launch Boarding Party, Murauding force hanger, etc.
Of course it sucked, but them gold old days.
I would LOVE the new Bridge officer training thats coming also fix or completely REMAKE old useless skills. Be nice if we used more then all the mostly cookie cutter stuff.

Talk about spam. You forgot turrets and those consumable scorpion fighters from the vault.
Can BP be used on ships while having EBC active?
Like using a B'rel with Cmdr. Eng and dropping BP3 from 0.1 km away?
Oh and btw... the first purple doff I got, was the one mentioned in the 2nd post.

STO is so much more exciting before you learn just how much of it useless.
Boarding parties I had thought they were armed already by default. So you need DOF to manage them. I've stopped using they since last year. Since there is another DOF that can block them from getting on your ship too. Or yo can blow them up if you got lucky.

Eheh heh heh heh.
Can I reintroduce my BP build now?
EDIT: BP is hardly useless if timed right, and with a science captain. Wait fro enemy to use tacteam, subnuc him, then use BP + 3x VR BP doffs and any abilities that prevent Tacteam from recovering from cooldown.

I always thought it would be fun if when you were flying through Sector Space, if you got the option to play against an invading force who board you...like a Klingon boarding party, or the Borg, who are trying to assimilate your ship and you get to play a ground/inside your ship mission.
I have always found that Torpedo Full Spread or a console will take care of Aceton Assimilators, Boarding Shuttles, etc pretty instantly...the new Singularity, Isometric and the Romulan plasma shockwave.
I've heard since forever that boarding parties were useless, mainly because of everyone running TT. This would be true of PvP but what about PvE? Does it have some use there?
Also what about Marauder Force Shuttles, those that come with the Orion flight deck cruiser, looks like a beefier version of boarding party - are they any good/better?

I don't think BP has any use in PvE, though last I tried was over a year and a half. Basically, mobs regenerate disabled systems so fast that you barely feel the BP effect. To counter the power creep, NPCs outside story missions are almost immune to subsystem disables anyway.

Don't...use....Tac team... Oh god why, that's like the #1 useful ability in ALL Builds.

No, not in all builds. You don't need TT if you can provide a reasonable amount of shield cap and resists, which should be standard on a sci ship healer. The only problem is the clearing of debuffs, like the one mentioned in this thread, but yeah a doff calleed keel'el (warp core engineer) could help there. Of course you need to run EptX, which i would call a 'musthave' on EVERY build.

You or your friend 60? My guess would be the BP shuttles getting NPC levels of HP scaling.
Secondly, boarding party used to be the absolute worst thing to give up a boff station for.
It's understandable that they have buffed it up a bit.

They should also not be automatically cancelled by TT 1.
How about SNB and Jam Sensors?

They're awesome in PvP. The folks trying to kill you burst out laughing...it's a great distraction.

Time will only tell!
All he mentioned was that the boarding party shuttles are very tanky, because they are.
Still useless, as far as I can tell.
