Why The Snowball Nerf ?

rotorblade573rotorblade573 Member Posts: 88 Arc User
I see in today's Release Notes (01-08-15) that of all things Snowballs get nerf'ed.

I don’t post a lot and like many long time players I have been very unhappy with the direction this game has taken over the last year....but seriously what prompted this change –

“Snowballs, Unmelting Snowballs, and Half-melted Snowballs no longer have any chance of knocking down snowmen or players of the opposite faction”.

If there are players out there who have a problem with getting hit with a virtual snowball they should seek counseling.

100 people are going to post after me, using 10000 words to say exactly what I just said in those two words.

The problem is people used it to gain advantage in PVP races and to annoy people doing the PVE race.

As much as I'm personally not competitive enough to care about it for myself, this does make sense.

You might want to get the number of their psychiatrist yourself, as you're clearly upset you can't manipulate other players characters against their will anymore.

How will you go on? Walk outside and step on some bugs?

I think they should have left them as they were and moved that small army of snowmen across from race starter's station. It was pretty annoyed to get hammered with dozens of snowballs while waiting to run the race.

Beyond that, I don't know what all the fuss was about.

...well getting attacked from beneath by invisible snowmen kinda sucks, too. That was supposedly fixed weeks ago, but it still happens to me regularly.

I thought they had already done this

I was on DS9 a couple nights ago and I remember there was a guy running around the Promenade throwing snowballs at passerbyers which included myself.

What I never liked about the snowballs was that, there is no way to dodge or avoid them... they have this way of tracking you like a heat-seeking missle (ironic), and it is annoying after awhile of wanting to do something and being pelted with snowballs that you cannot escape. If people complained about Party Amplifiers, this is just as, if not more annoying only because there is no way to dodge or avoid their effects.

They got 12 months to fix those. Right now more pressing issues are in despirate need of attention. Defera for example.

To be a pressing issue people would have to be going there.

The upside of that is if you make it to the start podium and the attacking snowmen get you 'held' then you can signal the race official and not receive an opponent during the race.

Ya, invisible snowmen are a pain, but they die just as easily as the ones you actually see.

Oh well.. I miss the opportunity the "harrass" a line cutter in the "Fastest Game on Ice" (PvE) Race. I actually thought this was fixed last year ??

 I felt vindicated, after being DQ'd by a line cutter, when I could smack the cutter during their race with a couple of snowballs as they slid into a turn and maybe fell down, and, in the process, slid out of bounds.. Justice was mine.. :D

Then again, I really hate those folks that pop a "Party Amplifier" just before the start of the Fast and Flurrious.. Come on Cryptic, where's the nerf/null effct for this one ??

Anywho, the reason for the nerf.. Whinning by a minority of players who PROBABLY deserve to get knocked down by a virtual snowball in a virtual world.. Wonder what they would do or respond if they got hit by a real snowball in the real world !!

At the nearest GPL store. Nullifier device, makes you completely immune to the party amplifier as long as it's in your inventory.

I'll remember that next time you dismiss negative feedback as the entitled whining of a minority of malcontents.

Well, I know you wouldn't put it as eloquently as I did, but you get the gist.

Re: the party amps. There is an item called a Subspace Party Nullifier (or something very similar to that) which will make your character immune to the dancing effect if carried. You still see the light show and balloons and music (unfortunately). You can purchase it from the GPL console at Drozana Station.

As for the snowballs, it's a very similar idea - preventing another player from forcing you into a certain action.

Cryptic needs to do something about the line cutters. But allowing other players to immobilize and/or knock down players with snowballs is not it.

Party Amps - rgr that.. knew there was something to counter that effect. My point was it's activated to cause an affect on other players and possible advantage, just like snow balls..

So, in Cryptic's nerf Logic, it fit's the profile. How come there's not a "Snowball Nullifier" for the same function.. Wait.. there's a potential dil sink !! (10% finders fee please :D)

I'd venture to guess that the whinners about snowballs are pretty much the same folks that pop party Amps; just to muck with other players..

Line Cutters - They make me angry; but, they are a product of our society and the "All about me" attitude. I just zone to another instance, but, they do it in-game 'cause folks can't do anything about it. Another product of Cryptic programming.. We have a gate in the PvP race, why not the same in the PvE ??

Oh.. one more thing, then I'm done.. WINTER EVENT Livestream - PvP snowball fight ?? How's that gonna work if snowballs have no affect on other players ??..

    Thanks all.. Have fun..

Ya, I just change instances because 'the man' don't want me playing with my friends, so I stopped playing with everybody else. The WE grind used to be fun, now I'm thinking this year will likely be my last visit to Q's chilly grindville.

    :D
I did a tides event recently, alone. 270 snowmen got by me and I killed 17. I still got the completion. Who really needs online interaction with other players anyhow.

If people really want to troll the PvE race, there are plenty of other options. go ahead and drop a cover shield on the track, or invite friends to drop shields to block the entire track. It's quite easy to do, from what I hear, and it gets the job done, not that I'm condoning such behavior, nor am I asking people to PM me in game to find out how it can be done. I will absolutely NOT divulge such information to interested parties (in most cases), so don't even bother asking me (unless you plan on asking politely).

If you aren't condoning it, why bring it up at all? (in two different threads)

Agreed. What's up with the smart snowballs?

They should be line of sight only, preferably with a realistic trajectory. But I agree it's a little late to be fooling around with them. Besides, any fixes will likely spawn lots of other bugs.
