So last night in ISA...

It was not my best game. The A Team was not on my ship. The B Team was apparently not there either. The Murphey's Law Squad, however, was.

A generator popped way to early. Off I go to contain spheres. Nothing new. It's a contingency that is planned for. What was not planned for happened next in a horrible sequence of events that lead to complete and utter failure for probably the most gracious team I ever met.

So, as I was saying, off I go to contain the spheres. No big deal, eh? I have a gravity well. The problem became apparent when I suddenly realized my new big carrier kind of flies like a space brick and doesn't exactly stop on a dime. Gravity well is out, spheres are contained, but I am right in the middle of the gravity well and the sphere and they are beating the snot out of me.

So, at 25% hull left, I call the fleet support. Fleet support completely ignores the spheres it seems. Not only do they ignore the spheres, they ignore the gate. They ignore everything between them and the right side of the map and the lovely little generators there to which they went posthaste and commenced to shoot as well as shoot the cube.

Suddenly, I am in the center of two spawns of spheres and my fleet support is going nuts on the right side shooting anything and everything they can target. It's only getting worse and I have since blown up and could only watch the entire thing go down hard as I respawned.

We were in with 3 members of my usual team and 2 unlucky pugs that destiny chose for Murphey's Law Failure. I knew I owned that failure 100%. What could I say? The "LOL It happens" reply to my humble apology made my day. Thank you, stranger, for being gracious in the face of epic failure.
Wow. There is a new KDF Science ship. I'll be!

It happens... Queue up for a new round.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Had a similar experience yesterday. While the team was still clearing the spheres left of the gate, the game failed for apparently no reason since we all were there firing off at the spheres. I decided to go on the other to see what happened and found a bunch of breen fighters still firing on the generators on the right side. Still have to figure out how that happened. Aren't carrier pets supposed to dissapear or something once the get more than 15km from the carrier?

There are some nice people out there that nothing seems to phase.

I had one instance in the old KASE where i jumped in and instantly was out of action due to the toolbar loadout mini-game otherwise know as the "toolbar shuffle".

An instant reply to my apology for lack of action was "No sweat, it happens :)" and off they went into battle :D

Funny how a simple reply like that can make your day.

I just keep mine in defensive or intercept mode. It seems to keep them from going too nuts. I am very new to carriers and don't fully know the ins and outs yet but the modes seemed rather intuitive to me. I am not sure, however, if there is any control over them in default mode - no mode selected at all. I seem to recall that there is no remembrance once you log off and you come back to nothing at all selected.

Yeah, it was just that it was a bad call and a bad call that could not be fixed. There is absolutely no control what so ever on your fleet support or photonic fleet. Apparently, fleet support does not time out and they stay until someone/something kills them.

However, the post is more about being gracious and offering a LOL instead of a curse. I knew it was going south and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I felt bad about it but bad feelings don't recall NPCs. It's the way the team handled the failure that made the difference for me.

Sorry not born yesterday. I call BS. Even if fleet support went to the right side their firepower is so pathetic that it wouldn' cause any kind of spawning.

Call BS all you want. You weren't there. You didn't see it. The two negvars over there failed the mission. Unless, of course, the generator over there just popped itself. Or wait... maybe I just pulled a sneaky and went over there and called them for kicks and giggles. Bet you wouldn't call BS on that one, eh?

Someone blew the one on the left, yes. That started the whole thing.

That's why I said thanks to the gracious players in there. I'm glad it was none of you (not you, beamscort). I would have to have your untimely deaths on my hands due to forehead vein aneurisms. Unless you missed it, it's not about the negvars. It's about the players in it who didn't toss a fit. The "gracious players" category is very thin in this game.

I can even tell you what blew the one on the left. Whatever torpedo makes the blue effect around it's target. It was dead on the generator when it popped.

    Blue effect, isn't that chroniton?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

    cool story bro :)
when you need to turn on a dime, use evasive! It will let you spin like an escort, once in a while. Carrier piloting 102, that is, youll get there :)

also gravity well makes things mad. A lot. Evasive helps there too, get out of there FASTER lol. But they gonna hunt you down and kill you when the gw ends. The advanced ICE sphere spawn is too much for most players to handle if they are all chasing one player, that player is likely to die... a good team can adjust the aggro across everyone after but a pug will let you die.

so, it happens. Most people here have done it, admit it or not. I know I have. First thing I did in my new breen was epic fail a khit ... was feeling invincible (its a tough ship!) and got blown up instead of just doing probes like I should have.

If it was fired from a Bortasque, then I think I know who that "noob" was.

    :o

If not, then I trashed a different run doing exactly what you have described, so apologies to the team.

The cube on the left was my intended target for that, but it went down too fast. It exploded on top of me as I slowed down, hit evasive to boost a quick turn, and tried to fire it. Unfortunately, the cube was dead, so the next thing autofire chose to shoot was that generator, and I think my beams critted on it before the nadeon stoked quantum did the rest.

I think what you couldn't see was the spheres on that side abusing me as I tried to fly around and shoot the rest of the nanite generators quickly, but I lost focus in that few seconds and went pop myself. Pretty sure having a cube go boom on my left side started the process of self immolation, and the 3 or 4 spheres over there finished it when I turned and exposed that open flank to them. I was trying to hurry since I knew the spheres wouldn't stay trapped forever, but only succeeded in getting my hull cracked. I fixed it during the respawn c/d, and zipped back over, but it was too too late.

    I warped out in shame...

Seriously, thanks for being a good sport about this when so many others are not, including some posters here. Cryptic could fix this by tweaking things just a bit, but I doubt they will. It'd be nice to be able finish even if there's an optional not met for some kind of worthwhile reward, not those 10 marks you get and a 1 hour cooldown heaping insult upon injury.

    Cheers!

it could also be the tricobalt launcher, or the benthan special console, or a couple of other things. The benthan thing is tricky to use, you turn it on, try to get shot at for 25 or so seconds, then pick a hard target and fire it to get max effect. Its very blue. And charged up (from being shot) its pretty good. But if you don't fire it within 30 seconds it *randomly targets* something ... and it may be enough to kill a generator if it fires.

HAHAHA That sounds 100% on the mark. A generator being popped too soon is planned for. Not being able to fly a space brick, not being able to stop a space brick, not being able to then get out of the middle of an angry swarm, calling support that goes crazy and flies away was not planned.

Popping a generator early was not the fail point. A generator on the other side being popped when the rest of us were still cleaning up the first spawn was. That was 100% on me. It was my pet that popped it and I was not able to get back in time to do anything about it.

EDIT: Seems like a lot of Murphey was going on.

Then I still wouldn't blame you. WhoTF was shooting the generators before the cube went down? Because there is no way your dps took a generator to zero in one volley even with BFAW.

Maybe the OP confused Fleet Support with Photonic Fleet, because the first only summons one ship. :)

As for firepower, the Typhoon I called a few times to help out against the Vaudwaar killed enemy vessels left and right and was doing so way more effective than I did, I felt humiliated. :o

I have run a lot of ISA, not so much after DR though. This one was over very fast. I didn't see anyone purposefully blow anything, left or right. I don't think I have seen one fail as fast as this one went south on a purposeful failing. How long does it take to respawn? 30 seconds max? That's how long it took to fail because it was over before I could get all the way back.

You should not. NPCs (including your summons) get a special passive ability "torp damage" which increases all projectile damage by a multiplier of about 1000. If WE had this trait, we would ALL be flying torp boats.

I hit photonic the other day and critted or something ... got 3 DD's each using torp spread 5 and gold MK MCLXVII plasma torps. It was pure awesome.

This is quite possible. I have fleet support right next to photonic fleet which is right next to pirate distress call. It was rather chaotic in that particular moment and I knew it. With generators still left and spheres out, it was probably just a matter of time on the left anyway before one got a heal in.

This was just a mission where if it could go wrong, it went wrong. It was a huge mess and it failed. It happens. I'm sure it happens to the best of us and I am far from being in the best of us group.

yep, I've seen this happen before. One of the many reasons I hate fleet support. Another reason being,Typhoons spam TBR. They can ruin CC and TBR itself is strong enough to pop a generator.

I'm sure you're right, but every now & then, the numbers surprise me. Preeetty sure this ship is 10k-ish. Not awesome, but awesome enuff for ISA when "captain murphy" hasn't shown up instead of me.

Anywho, I think I had clicked up a beam overload for the cube, too, and it all went into the generator, which was definetly hurt already. I checked fire on it immediately, and started on the one behind it when the first one gave the telltale crunch of being finished by the torp. That's when "oh *****" mode kicked in, and you know the rest...

Thanks for sharing that. Lately, it feels like most participants are really snarky in their chat posts.

A few days ago, I was running ISE. One of the players decided to criticize my playing, bringing up the DPS counts at the end as if I should have been hammering every single thing. The other two players jumped in before warping out: "Thx for the heals" and "saved my butt thxs. ignore him".

Not all of us are aggro players. We fight... and we also heal. And yes, we finished successfully and got our optional, too.

A kind word, even "GG all, ty" is golden. When it's a good sortie, I know I try to say it. Hopefully it makes someone else's day.

I always try to say gg. Especially after the Undine Infiltration Elite I did the other night.

Everyone worked together beautifully and one guy in fact got stuck on clearing/quarantining one of the suspects and CALLED FOR HELP. I went over and helped him and we continued on.

If you can't figure out the clear/arrest status, ASK FOR HELP. That's why you're in a team! :)

Anyway, that guy and group were awesome. GGs all around.

I actually said I don't want to answer them because I might answer wrong and they were happy I would rather prepare for the Orb or fires instead of failing for all of us. Trying NOT to fail is as good as trying to win. I'm very glad some people get that and encourage it. Like your teammate there, I guess I find some of the evidence to be less than air tight. On normal, I have scratched my head and said "what?" No room for that on Elite.

There was one fellow in the STF that I didn't get to apologize to. Two of the others were my friends so I got to be embarrassed in person to them. He saw the thread. We shared a laugh right here in the open. It was truly an awful mission. But I would play with both of those guys again any day. I knew full well I was going to get curbstomped in here but hoped the other guy was a forumite. He was. So mission accomplished.
