Due to the absurdly long time it takes to do the missions, where they are time gated and you are forced to watch cutscenes, I believe it would be good to have a finish now button for missions that , say, cost 16000 dilithium.
This is especially true for missions like "a step between stars" where you have to do it 3x to get the set items. Not only do you have to do the same boring things, observe the same boring dialogue, and see the same boring cutscenes, you have to do them three times. This is compounded even more if you have alts. without even buying character slots, you need to do that mission 9 times to get the set on every character, and thats just one set. It is a challenge just to stay awake doing this missions.
At the very least make the finish now for dilithium button available for reruns of the mission if it has been done once on an account. Dragons Deceit to unlock Bug Hunt is proof that this is something that is actually within cryptics capabilities.
This should be a win-win situation, casuals can just play the missions for the reward, those that just want the items get an option that saves them from playing the mission, and cryptic gets dilithium.

lol.. You absolutely can't be serious.
Just what this game needs, more Dilithium locked time gates. 16k to skip a mission that takes 5-10 minutes to replay and gives you a 3 Piece Mk XII Very Rare Space set as a reward.. brilliant!
If you're kidding, bravo on successfully trolling me.. very well done.
What bothers me in this mission, A Step between the Stars, is the fact that I have to fly another ship and have to set up the tasksbar each time I do the mission.
I don't mind playing missions again and again, although it is not the most handsome game feature. In this mission I would like to see an auto pilot kind of feature. Am I the only capable starship commander? The ship came there without me, can't it get out without me?
Another option would be to be able to pilot my own ship. If that was possible I would love the mission, because in essence I like the mission.

Your sig says "troll" or "I'm too stupid to realize what I'm saying". Given that, I say sure. Pay for it, let the rest of the kids keep F2P at your expense. Forum wise, just wait till the misguided and disillusioned Ahab reads this, he will strike you down, with words he thinks are enlightened. Just be a brave Troll, you both have one thing in common, it all smells the same.
At first I hated doing the mission three times over on my alts, but you get the hang of it. Don't set up your bar, learn to use what you got. In tactical mode the Dyson dishes out enough to make short work of the voth and undine. When the tethys arrive you can lay back and support the other ships. The door locks can be tricky to manuveur, practice makes perfect.
I'm not against a dilithium shortcut, but you don't *really* need it.
Story mission is probably the last thing that is well done in the game. Except for the part you have to do them 4 times per character for all the items.
You don't want to skip the only good content, do you ?

You certainly knows a lot about trolls, firsthand experience I guess ?
A far easier route would be to offer the rewards for Dil in the Dil store, then you have a choice to play the mission and get them for free or buy them outright. I am not in favour of a finish now button, that's if you were being serious.
That would also work as long as doing the mission is not necessary
The delays and time-gates are engineered in to keep you playing for longer, to fill some 'man-hours' metric reported back by the server.
But thats what argala grinding is for. Clearly they want people to play delta content, and old missions are not delta content, so if people keep redoing old missions their metrics will not support the fact that delta rising is the best expansion ever and players love it
The main issue is I am here to play an MMO, not a single player game, as the game name Star Trek Online would have you believe, not waste my time on single player missions
The missions are optional anyway (like everything else). So, if you don't want to play single-player missions (which is reasonable), then don't.
Cryptic doesn't need to make a new mechanic for your needs.
Missions are not optional. The first story arc of romulans before choosing a faction are not skippable, KDF "test of mettle" is not skippable for f2p ers that need their first ship, "a step between stars" is not skippable if you want your particle generator sci ship to be competitive in pvp, sphere of influence is not skippable if you want the core with the highest aux cap in the game, the first patrol mission is not skippable if you want to get higher than lv 50 (to unlock argala),
And this is not a new mechanic. They already have missions that grant account unlocks and they already have finish now buttons
I don't like the idea of paying dill to finish missions, but it would be interesting if you could send your bridge officers to finish the missions, similar to how duty officers work.

Then you've come to the wrong game friend.
Let's say you get what you want. If you completed the mission once previously on any toon old or new the game would know that, it will give you the button that will grant you all the rewards then and there. Gear, skill points, titles and all.
So you do that, fly through all the content in a few hours. With a means to do...what?
Single player content is the meat of this game. It's not an MMO, it's a single player adventure game with other people around - sometimes just as useless as NPC's.
Queues continue to be deserted. PvP is on life support choking in the corner but no-one cares. What content is played isn't even played, it's being farmed to death for marks or spec points or it's being blasted apart quicker and quicker for DPS charts.
I said the same thing when people complain it takes too long to level to 60. There is nothing worthwhile at the end of the tunnel, so you might as well enjoy what is in the game as much as you can and take your time.

The answer is simple, Hang around in kerrat and arena like I always do. I have already done all the missions on 4 characters, and when I am not doing that I can build up my other characters. Now if only there were better ways to get spec points other than argala and suppressing gorn ...
There really isn't a good argument against it. People that are opposed just won't use the button. Just as most people don't use the 'finish now' R&D buttons.
Just a little side note but you can report people for calling you troll and the mods will have no choice but to issue warnings
"Finsh now" buttons have already been added in-game, the line was crossed and we are now in whale territory.
It's no longer about the quality of the game but how much everything can be milked so I say yes, go for it.
They should add milk buttons to everything, fleet projects, reputation, doff, hell STF should have one too.
It would seem to be the - logical - solution to making the game unplayable, that people will now pay good money to NOT play content, it's really come to that.
Since money talks, if people want to buy it, go ahead and sell

Skippable means you don't have to do it, not that its useless. Just because a mission gives a useful reward doesn't mean its required. The tutorials are required, missions after that are optional. Some of them are useful, but optional nonetheless.
KDF get their first ship on character creation just like everyone else. Having a particle generator sci ship is optional. PvP is optional. Having an obelisk core is optional. And seeing as I've only done the delta mission chain on one toon (and only once) and still got everyone to level 60 just fine, unlocking "argala" is optional too.
I've heard there have even been people who have chosen not to do the Romulan faction-choosing mission to play "pure Romulan."

If you want the rewards you need to do mission. Yeah it does get boring doing it over again but it is a small price to pay to get it free. So you want it now buy paying for it and your in that much of a hurry to get set? That is not a very smart idea to me lol

Well no the first romulan mission marks are not skippable at all, and there is that other one that is needed to get out of tau dewa

when you have done a certain mission over 60 times over multiple alts then yes it starts to sound like a good idea

How is paying for something you get for free is a good idea? You don't have to have it on all alts and you don't play all alts at the same time. Take your time and get it for the toons you mainly play and later down the road you want it for another alt do it again. No one is making you repeat mission or saying you have to have the set but you.

Because the opportunity cost of doing a long mission is quite high. While doing that mission I could have been farming instead

Cryptic's goal is to keep the player playing the game, this is not an incentive to do so.
Why would anyone need a dilithium refining increase ? 416000 refine limit per day is hard enough to max as it is

So instead of farming for set you want to farm for something else? LMAO
Farming implies efficient use of time to get appropriate rewards. Missions have a horrible time vs reward ration so that would count as grinding
