A bad grind is a perceived meaningless grind with no sense of satisfaction when it is done. When I did the long and tough dino forest grind in Chrono Trigger I enjoyed because it was a. a challenge and b. allowed me to level up enough to finish the game fairly painlessly. That's a good grind.

DR actually for the first time gave us true end game content but people are ignoring it or just resistant to it. The new endgame content has finally added meaning to the grind in PvE. Gear up and get enough spec points etc. and try to do Elite runs. Seems legit.
But you've got a group of people who want to faceroll content while doing zero work for it and have given up on getting to Elite before they even started. They can't handle doing content on Normal when they used to faceroll Elite in five minutes.
Sadly for me, PvP used to be my reason to grind and it gave me satisfaction when I won a match with the help of the stuff (gear, passives etc.) I grinded for. It's unfortunate that DR completely through balance out the window though effectively killing PvP.

So you're complaining that balance has been destroyed because people have been able to buy gear & ships that throw off the balance in PvP - a balance that you could restore by grinding for the same gear they have, while slating others for complaining about having to grind?

You obviously have no clue what I'm talking about. Thanks though!

First off, very nice original post. However you are using too many electrons to describe a very simple thing.

I am surprised by many posts here and how shallow a look they are taking on all the outrage that's on the forums.

People are not up in arms about DR because it's grindy. People are up in arms because

    a) very little content was actually added,

    b) a lot of systems were haphazardly introduced without any thought to the consequences,

    c) a lot of content was invalidated for no other reason than to either increase monetization or to artificially inflate the value of the "new" content

    d) a lot of older content suddenly became broken - with no real attempt to fix it yet

If that is not enough for you, I'll put it even more simply.

You are running an MMO. MMOs are being played by various types of gamers. Gamers that can play 30 minutes per day, gamers that can play 2 hours a day and gamers that can play for any inordinate amount of time per day. When you shift your MMO to satisfy only the people that play 30 minutes day and punish anyone who actually wishes to spend more time on it, you are in trouble. Because believe me, it's not the casual, infrequent players that are going to keep it alive - either financially or socially.
