Once I realised I could just buy the hat for alts, that eased my "pain" somewhat ;)

I just assumed the hats would be bound to character (like some of the other gear, whilst factoring in the restrictions need to get them in the first place) :)

I guess I'm beginning to always assume the worst :(

Looks like one grind is being seriously reduced if I understand it correctly. Although, the Winter Event would not be the Winter Event without the grind ship.
Tribble is being brought down for maintenance to update it to build ST.46.20141123a.9

    Winter Event:
    • It is now easier to gain completion credit for participating in “Tide of Ice”.
    • Items unlocked through completing “Tide of Ice” will now unlock for the entire account.
      • This will require only 1 character on an account to unlock all new Winter Event items through completing “Tide of Ice”.
      • Players will still need to spend the correct Winter Event currencies for each purchase on each character.

So getting the Breen Warp Core will still take 10 runs to get, but it only needs to be done on one character not every character.

This is my 1st winter event.

Once I got the hang of the slippery race (which took over 12 tries), it is pretty quick. I have only completed it once so far on each of my 6 toons. If I do not become sick of doing it 6 times per day, then the plan is to have all 6 toons grind for the 1,000 autographs. What autographs I don't use this year will be saved for next year. If I do get sick of the grind, then I will probably just grind it for my two science toons since the Breen carrier is pretty much focused on science. I will have to review the other Breen ships to see if I want them for my other toons.

I'm surprised this is getting fixed so quickly. I'm guessing it was messing with the "metrics"

    100% Agreed

Running for the Ship is one thing but having to grind out a ton of holiday items for the cores on top of having to run the Snow Borg event 10x each character that you want the cores on is asking a bit much.

    And just to clarify:

Previous Winter Events have never had any such requirement to purchase items from the Holiday vendor.

The worst part about this is that there is no clear counter of exactly how many times you need to grind this new mission to get the gear to unlock, heck, I didn't even know there was a way to unlock it in the store for the first hour until it was explained to me, very vague, no way to keep track that I can see, it's a mess.

Actually.... you can look up the accolade. It's in the events list. "Line in the snow".

    Wow,

I did not see this change and although it's not has good has just letting us run any 10 Winter Wonderland events it is no longer an ALT killer and that's a huge + :)

You guys do know that the Winter currencies are also awarded via DOff missions too? They aren't exactly hard to come by.

Your commentary, while literate and insightful, does nothing to improve the quality of the discussion, alas.

My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.

Thankyou dear sir but im not being paid by cryptic to lift this game out of the hole it is in ;-). They have got some smart devs and they know what to do. Infact all they have to do is open their eyes a bit and look around. It isnt rocket science to turn sto into a gamer friendly environment. ..

at least the grind is faster than the summer event. Flying all the courses takes forever while the winter race is one and done.

Don't you mean, improved North American grindfest with Asian flair?!

Yep totally .... add some californian silicon some beijing noodles and some indian math and you get the perfect grind ;-) sadly the only suckers to play are in north america. I wish our beijing and indian gamer bros had something to say ... if... they play sto)

If you look at my other posts, I'm on the same side as you - I just don't like hurting my case with gibberish and immaturity. But hey, to each his own.

And yeah, it actually is rocket science. A well designed game these days has people like economists, psychologists, and people with actual degrees and experience in game design on staff. It just so happens PWE allocates a lot of the budget to accountants and, it seems, people with a background in the Casino industry.

Yes i agree but dont blame PWE for all thats wrong in the universe. Cryptic needs some spine maaan!! They need to stand up for what they beleive in if they dont they are as bad as PWE . And since this post is on the winter event ...in your honest appraisal has it improved its graphics design etc wise over the last 2 to 3 years?

Graphically? It got laggier. But so has every zone that has been modified recently. It's still winterey. And festive. Not my thing really.

I hope everyone is enjoying the Winter Grindfest! I've checked it out, but not sure if I will actually Mega-Grind myself for the T-6 ship.
    Grinding is Futile.
10 455ed snowmen defenses for a total of 3 standard junk mats ?
    llol
I let them to that, I will not.

And the race...yes. Why is the enemy pet cheating by lagging me back ?
Or perhaps it's a Jedi pet using Force Pull on me...

That's probably related to the issues with DX11
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

One more stupid thing I forgot to mention: when you do the tract run, the snowmen can actually invade and attack you.
    'Nice !'
That should of been elite track run.

Why is it called a grind, to log in, do a 2 min race, then log out. do this for 25 days and you have a T6 ship! The first T6 ship which is not Zen-only I might add.

I already have the faeht but I'm still going for the breen carrier.

I have mu snowboots, my nanopulse lirpa, and some winter clothing, so im super happy :)

I feel like this is way less fun than the summer event because of the mega-grind combined with time gating.

You must play the stupid Tide of Ice snow Borg mission 10 TIMES ON EVERY CHARACTER to get the stupid Breen warp core on ever character on your account!?!?!

First, it should be no more than five times since three times I played Tide of Ice the bugged game glitched and didn't count that completion as a completion. I mean, what is the point of grinding if we aren't given credit for the grind? Let's not forget that Tide of Ice only happens once an hour (maybe twice if you are lucky) so there is no way to grind quickly if the game glitches or if you want to grind with multiple characters on your account.

Second, once one character on your account has completed Tide of Ice the required number of times then ALL CHARACTERS ON THE ACCOUNT should be able to purchase the Breen warp core if they have the item requirements (ornaments, candles and whatnot).

I understand the value of grinding for MMOs but there is too much grinding in a limited amount of time (in a buggy game that doesn't count all your grinding) for loyal STO players with multiple characters on their accounts to grind for all the goodies for all the characters.
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."

Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.
