Might be an unpopular place to stand, but regardless. Murrrr. Quite like Caitians as they are but more options are always good to have; I very much doubt their racial diversity is so shallow that Caitians wouldn't have races with features like those.
Again you clearly don't know anything about anime for you to make that kind of statement. The closest thing is that they have large eyes and foreheads and small noses and mouths, and guess what? REAL LIFE HOUSECATS HAVE THE SAME EXACT FEATURES. You can take the existing Caitian formula and inject more housecat features (as I said, basing them on Felis genus instead of Panthera) and get the exact same results without ever having even seen an anime production. The resemblance is purely coincidental. These are housecat anthros, not anime catgirls.
Words have meaning, and using the wrong terminology and making bad comparisons undermines your position.
I repeat: if it has fur and animal features, it is an anthro. Anthro characters originate in Disney and WB animation, have grown into the western "furry" fandom, and are virtually unknown in Japan where the "nekomimi" style dominates even when the base animal is something other than feline. The two are completely separate in geographical origin, development, and fanbase. Again, conflating the two only displays your ignorance of the subject and undermines your position.
PS: You can be an anthro aka furry fan without being into the erotic elements just like you can like anime and not be into hentai, or movies and not TRIBBLE. If you are a fan of Caitians, then you are in fact in that aspect a furfan. Welcome to the club.
Please god no. That doesn't even look like a thing that could exist. At least the Caitians we have now vaguely look like living things. Argue all you want that it's not anime, it's still cartoonish and it's still TRIBBLE.
If you're so knowledgeable about the subject, why do you insist on stubbornly sticking to a miscategorization of the images in question even when informed to the contrary?
Look man, I like you and I respect the amazing work you've done in the Foundry, but everyone makes mistakes. You are clearly, factually mistaken here. Digging in your heels and denying it loudly won't change that.
It looks animeish and cartoonish as others have stated. There are no mistakes. You are misunderstanding my entire argument.
I would agree with ashkrik23 to the regard that the Caitian's you've posted do look a tad too animeish however it would be appreciated if they (Cryptic) could get the Caitian/Ferasan feet right. They're a feline species, they're not humanoid - as such, they shouldn't be able to wear the standard boot.
What the artist(s) have done with the feet posted here would be perfect, and welcomed. Shame we're unlikely to ever see that though. Additional hair options would further be welcomed, but again, are unlikely.
you officially have the best.

I know the words of a nobody mean bugger all out here but you, both of you, fighting like this knowing full well neither side will budge doesn't bring the right attention to the cause of feline customisation. Very good way to ensure important people just assume any talk on the subject will devolve though.

Be careful what you wish for; Gorn feet have been handled incorrectly since the dawn of time on most armours. If you get your wish, you'll probably end up wearing normal boots anyway on half of your armours/outfits.
Then again, you're Federation, so you might actually see fixes for things like this.

Agreed. those... not-boots would look quite nice as an option. the rest of the outfit? we kinda have it actually. It's just a variant of the TOS outfit.
Also, why do people always draw Caitians with the clothing wrapped around their feet?
It's a massively trending thing in furry art or just furry things in general. (I'm not calling anyone here a furry.) Apparently, people will tend to add leg-warmers to the characters because they either aren't sure how to create actual footwear (even though there's artists who have done proper footwear for digitigrade feet) or they're doing it because it's part of an anthro art trend and it makes characters look all "cute" and "adorable" and what not.
Personally, that right there and the tail puff is probably what I dislike most about these pictures. I find the art well done, but I've seen these trends way too much to like it anymore.
But, I personally like the caitians how they currently are in the game. They seem more like a more or less believable feline species rather than my tabby just got 6 feet tall and talking about how he had 10 cat naps today while sipping on coffee.
I would agree it would be nice have different hairstyles and stuff though.

I, for one, am happy at how the devs deliberately designed the Caitians to be as far away from furry wankbait as possible. Any changes to the current Caitians should be made to further that goal.
I can't look at those pictures without my eyes drifting to the ridiculous calves and wondering what the hell the artist was thinking.
Too much junk in the trunk and under the hood, so it all had to go elsewhere.
I'm sensing kind of a coke-bottle figure going on here. Maybe that's not the best term for it, but it seems like it's heading in that direction as far as bodily proportions go. But, at least there's plenty of that in STO! The picture sure isn't far off from that.

Indeed. I don't want those furries anywhere near me when I'm playing my Orion female who has perfectly good RP reasons to also have an entirely female Orion officer roster. Damn good thing it stays over there on the Fed side.
I was tweaking my tall, curvy, pale blue skinned space elf in the tailor yesterday (I have a huge treatise detailing why they're tall, why they're curvy, and why they're space elves, all very RP you know) and there's a female Caitian with the seductive pose, as you'd expect. I was going to report the disgusting furry freak, but it was gone by the time I found and replaced the monocle that had popped clean out of my eye.

Hehe, absolutely!

Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
Those two pics of the cartoon style cat people didn't look very anime to me, the faces looked like cats wearing wigs and the bodies were ridiculous regardless. But anyway:
You know after being unfortunately subjected to 5 pages of the absolute drivel, there is only disappointment in the sheer level of stupidity and diatribe of some people.
I'm not being funny but there are a number of individuals who have posted here who need to grow the **** up and realise not everything is about sex. Yet that aside, the concerns aired are entirely about the Caitians somehow being "too sexy" for a very small group of fetish people ... over the fact that Orion Females clothing options are practically optional, that skirts going from reasonably short to basically a Skelt, that there is a BREAST slider that goes from Medium to Traffic Cone (there is no small option, and they are all the unrealistic implant breast type; rather than the variety of shapes women actually have), that there is a "Seductive" pose you can chose that absolutely comical in how Barbie Doll it is.
You're saying that stuff is OK, but the Caitians having a more realistic Domestic Cat Head; better Fur/Mane options that don't look like a Human Wig; more Tail Type options; more Paw-like Hands with claws rather than Human Hands with long nails (and currently not even that) and more animalistic legs (like the Gorn and Voth have) is somehow a no-no because it would make them "Furry TRIBBLE"? I mean seriously, what bloody planet do you live on?
Right now the Caitians look like a Human in a Halloween mask with a Tail... how does that look like even any reasonable attempt at a Feline-based Race; which these ARE part of the canon, and the one that appears in the Star Trek movies is MASSIVE Furry bait. Plus has 3 TRIBBLE... Shatner clearly has an interesting imagination.
Still I don't think it's too much to ask that they make a decision if they want to take the more Anime route, of a Human with subtle Feline Traits; or have a more Feline with Humanoid traits. As it stands they're more of a bizarre Chimera that looks out of place EVEN in Star Trek Online that is hardly visually consistent.
Frankly I think the Character System on the whole is designed around unrealistic ideals and needs to be overhauled itself, which I'd prefer over simply a single race seeing some minor cosmetic changes to that effect that would then make all of the 'Human centric' assets then look completely out of place.
As it stands it still is designed clearly around the 'Super Hero' purpose it was originally developed to provide, and the sheer level of inconsistent quality artwork just accents how bad a Character Customisation System it actually is.
The visual style of the game as whole is an incoherent mess between Realism, Heroic and Comical artwork that just ends up making the production quality and overall feel of the game end up being something you would expect from an Independent Studio; who are making an MMO for the first time and are fresh out of college with absolutely no Senior Artist ensuring consistency and reference base for any of the assets produced.

Not sure what linking me a subject I already know is supposed to accomplish. You are being arrogant.

I see. Thanks for the explanation.
I personally think that including the breast is just making it look even more like an anime-style character.
Especially on the top picture.
