I would prefer the starfleet command combat system. It would add alot more depth
To the game. Even if it was a pure 2D game. Had some naval warfare feeling.
Taking care of the crew in combat, sending out troops to disable special systems on the enemy ship or conquer it, catching the enemy with a tractor beam and pushing it into an asteroid....
This is just so much bs lol dont know where to start so i just explain the fact that a ship moving in euclidian 3-space (with the standard scalar product) is just a simple moving frame with nothing singular or even slightly complicated about it.
Star trek II The wrath of Khan also had 3d maneuvering (vertical)
True. I didn't forget that one. First time the 3D aspect of space was used in Star Trek, I believe. But, as already stated, that was more like a submarine diving and surfacing. I think the example wanted was where the ships were actually on different/intersecting planes in space.
Oh! And don't forget the NX-01 Enterprise and the NX-02 Columbia were actually in an inverted formation for an extravehicular crew transfer at warp!

He is likely referring to this:

Someone mentioned gimbal locks and Euler angles to me in-game before. Note that this really isn't my area of expertise.
