Ive read so much negative contents over the last few days that i would like to just say thank you.
I been around for a few years and I am truly impressed with what is. You guys created something awesome and its evolving. I guess one voice should just step up and say good job guys.
I look at my ship, the content i get to do on a daily basis and I feel its completely trek. Sure beats the boring grind of real life.
Grind in a game that I like. Just being able to experience standing on my own bridge, with my own crew . To see stars sweeping past my ship.
These are memories that you guys created for me. You guys get two thumbs up. Looking forward to the next expansion and other seasons. I know how hard it is to just create one storyline.
Have fun and die trying if you cant.
(This is genuine. I was hoping to throw some good into the mix of negative feelings going around at this time about Tier 6 stuff. Kind of reminds me of folks ******** about new sports fortuner coming out, but no one has actually seen it.)
Whether you think you are right or wrong, either way you are RIGHT.
Expansion 2 is for me very exciting, and I look forward to the new stuff comming our way
Right now theres quite a bit of hostility from the forums, and I just hope the developers aren't down hearted by it, there are people who appreciate the hard work
These are the Voyages on the STO forum, the final frontier. Our continuing mission: to explore Pretentious Posts, to seek out new Overreactions and Misinformation , to boldly experience Cynicism like no man has before.......
I'd like to lend my support to the OP. While the game isn't perfect, I do have a lot of fun playing.
People are just worried all the money they've spent will be invalidated. Which if true, would be just reason for the RAGE we are seeing. Me, I'm not so worried. Cryptic would have to be nearly braindead to be that A) stupid and cruel.
People are all upset about paying for ships that might be less powerful than the newly announced T6 tier. What people have to remember is this, pure and simple fact:
When said people purchase digital media, they did so with the knowledge that CRYPTIC (ie: the developers) can, might, eventually or outright alter, change or modify in any way they see fit said digital material as it relates to *their* game.
I've purchased Tier 3 or 4 ships from KDF lineup for something as simple as a console or other unique weaponry (Quad Cannons anyone?) that I wanted for other ships. Did I ***** and moan about being level 50 and purchasing an item meant for a lower leveled character? Heck no, I did so because I wanted to - pure and simple.
People are feeling entitled when they have no reason to. It's like buying Mass Effect 1, then expecting to be given Mass Effect 2, then later ME 3 just because you made that initial purchase of a trilogy. We have all made digital purchases within this game. We choose to with full knowledge that it truly wasn't our property to begin with. It is Cryptic's ... we are merely paying for the *right* to fly said ship - we have no control over it, no say in the development of it, merely paying for the privelage of using said material.
Am I saying that some developers have misled the playerbase? Not really. Name a single MMO that didn't and doesn't tell their playerbase what they have up their sleeves for future content. This playerbase attacks developers personally - not professionally on a consistent basis and has for years.
I play KDF almost exclusively ever since you had to earn the right by grinding a Fed to level 25. I've seen it grow (albeit slowly, painfully and then grow stagnant at times) to what it is today. While no where near the size of Fed-exclusive content ....it *has* come leaps and bounds over where it was previously. Am I cautious about all this level cap increases and T6 ships? Yep.
Am I eagerly awaiting new content? ... yep. Will I continue to play, hoping for more KDF-exclusive content? ... Yep ... Where else can I play in a game based upon the Series, the Franchise that I love? ...

I'm sorry to people who I, in the past, insulted, annoyed, etc.

That's a bad analogy. I'd LOVE to play Star Trek Online: 2. I'd like for them to scrap the current game and start over. Better engine. Better thought out systems. The whole nine yards. A sequel is far more awesome an idea than an expansion.
While I am happy about the new stuff coming down the pike, yeah I spent money and now it's going to be basically obsolete.
I know the TOS/EULA but still, it's a little frustrating.
Star Trek Battles member. Want to roll with a good group of people regardless of fleets and not have to worry about DPS while doing STFs? Come join the channel and join in the fun!

Agreed. However, the devs did seem to go to great lengths to reassure everyone that "we're gonna take care of you guys" so I'm going to take them at their word and be optimistic about it.
Everyone understands games must evolve and change but as a friend once put it to me; "When you spend money in a game (specifically MMO's) you understand the risks. Things change. New stuff is always coming and going. That nice new shiny you just bought isn't always going to be the shiny and you'd better bet something better is coming down the pipe. People get that. But the change should always feel like inflation and not a stock market collapse, i.e. your "worth" slowly degrades over time but you never have you legs chopped out from beneath you"
I think some people see a "crash" coming, but as I stated in my previous post, and again above, I don't think that's what we'll see.
Outside of my cautious optimism in regards to all that, I'm super STOked about X2

You are quite right .. my analogy was off a bit. Consider it like this then: It's like buying Sims 3, then expecting each and every "expansion" to that game to be given for free simply because the newer content is better than what was within it previously.
I've spent plenty of money on STO over the years (much to much to even add up simply because I would be depressed that I've spent this much on *any* game) ...but I did, I am satisfied with my purchases thus far ...because I love the game.
Are there issues with it? Indeed. Are there stuff that I dislike with about it? Absolutely. Is there grinding for new equipment with each patch? Yep, you bet.
Do I dislike it? Well, I am still here and playing (and paying) for over 4 years now - and have no additional plans to move onward. I will adapt to coin the phrase and play simply because there *is* no alternative out there that brings my favorite TV / Book / Film series to life that I can play within.
can't say I disagree with the OP. there's a lotta good in STO, but it is repetitive. I gotta ask, tho. where are the independent traders? the only ones we find are NPC's. how about playable traders that aren't faction specific? we could goto them instead of the exchange all the time.
WE SURVIVE!

(This is genuine. I was hoping to throw some good into the mix of negative feelings going around at this time about Tier 6 stuff. Kind of reminds me of folks ******** about new sports fortuner coming out, but no one has actually seen it.)
To me, all the negativity going rampant here is a positive thing.
For one thing, it's feedback from players. It's up to Cryptic to parse and understand it correctly. Not all negative feedback is non-constructive, and in ways, they can be more constructive than positive feedback.
I kind of disagree with these topics because this is a critical moment for the game -- all the negativity you see being a result of that. The devs don't need a pat in the back. They need a wake up call. They're destroying the game for a number of players and this may, or may not, be a sign of the game's demise in the long term.
Everyone understands games must evolve and change ...
I think part of the concern is that the developers will make canon ships much more obsolete, and players will be forced to use 'oddly' designed ships for which they have no feelings. Which would be kind of like making a Stargate game that 'evolves and changes' to make stargates obsolete. So, as much as it is true that MMOs change, it seems that theme-based MMOs like this have to retain a good portion of their world intact to avoid invalidating themselves.
For example, I'm happy to now have a Fleet Assault Cruiser Refit, because I think it is a good design, and it feels Star Trek enough. I wouldn't care to fly a Voth or 8472 ship, even if they gave me one free. So the thought does not cheer me up that I might end up using a potentially badly designed (from my perspective) new ship for performance reasons. I think part of the problem comes down to the lack of trust that they can design good new ships -- because most of the evidently good designs were used up in making the currently available ships, and also, some newer designs (like the Dyson) did not inspire much confidence in many people regarding the future ships. But if they simply make e.g. a Fleet Assault Cruiser *Retrofit*, where I can even use the older Fleet Refit look, I would have no major problems; I almost surely would throw in one ship module worth of resources to get it.
At the end of the day, what makes me sad (figuratively, as I reserve things like sadness for real life events) about their plans is that I still do not see any major overhaul of the game system, and I think something like that is sorely needed. Just look at Star Citizen for example.
skipped most of the rage comments in the others thread...
So, I do agree with you (thread starter). I enjoy this game since I've started playing back in closed beta in 2009.
I am really looking forward to the Delta Quadrant Expansion. I am quite excited. Was waiting for this a long time.
Keep on going, Cryptic. Thank you for this awesome game!
I have a question. How come the Dilithium vendors are not selling their items anymore?
I miss the items that you can pay Dilithium with. Such as plasma weapons, disruptors, phasers, and various types of torpedoes. I hope that one day the vendors will return.

Because all of that got folded into the Crafting and Upgrade systems.
As a note, however, it's better to start up a new thread than to necro a thread that's been dead for three months already.
This is still a small percentage giving 'thanks' to Cryptic. We can't even begin to count the amount of 'negative' tickets from the rest of the population. I know you can't make everyone happy, but if the email box is overflowing with tickets from the majority of players the people in control of STO knows something is wrong. (Not to mention the lack of money coming into their sweet bank account.)
I love all this blind optimism, it's no different from actually believing every word politicians speak...

Regardless, cautious optimism is called for atm. Not trolling. Not raging. Not b**ching or griping. Cautious optimism.
