Romulans and Klinks can have Reciprocity and the other awesome traits of awesome just as soon as Feds and Klinks can have Scimitars, SRO, and Subterfuge.

    Cool?

    Cool.

There is a older thread about the ship mastery traits :
    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1283541

There are some good ideas there too about the same subject

i do not like the idea of account binding mastery lvls. as a full time kdf player i know we have a disadvantage in the number of mastery lvls we can even have but all this will do is let the feddy bear farmers keep playing their main toon and just pop over to kdf side and be all decked out with ZERO TIME SPENT KDF SIDE.

again as a full time KDF player we are already used to doing more with allot less. im used to it. the whole idea of this is just another reason for the farmers to spend even less time actually playing kdf allied alts.

    Hopefully just the grind.

Well if you could ... you know ... balance the STF's so that they would be come both enjoyable and rewarding once more ... (see pre-DR status) , I think you would see a lot more grinding taking place ... , which in turn would perhaps be more to your expectation in regards to the rate at which ppl progress through their Starship Mastery .

I know that is a bit of circular logic , but as far as I can see -- if ppl don't play (because they either can't or don't see it awarding) , then they don't gain points and thus they don't progress in Starship Mastery .

Thanks. The information is nice. Moreover as another poster noted "Welcome to the Forums, welcome to communication." It is also a good step in the right direction methinks. Your efforts are appreciated to say the least.

One of the many types of rewards we have been keeping a close eye on is skill point gain through Starship Mastery. In a previous patch we reduced the amount of Skill Points required by a fair amount. However, we're not entirely happy with the time to get a Tier 6 or T5-U starship to maximum Starship Mastery level. One of our goals with this feature was to encourage players to spend time in a starship, engage in a handful of hours of ship combat and ultimately figure out the ins and outs of the starship and then (if applicable) unlock the Tier 5 Starship Trait. This trait could then be slotted into one of your four Starship Trait slots, so you had the option to move onto another starship and progress through its Starship Mastery levels. Unfortunately, the time to reach Tier 5 is much longer than we had anticipated for the average player.

In the end, progressing through Starship Mastery should be fun and rewarding and shouldn't feel like a grind. Starship Mastery isn't there yet, but we'll keep making adjustments until it reaches this goal. Going forward we will explore alternate avenues for awarding amounts of Starship Mastery Skill Points as well as reducing the amount of Skill Points required. In the upcoming patch on 11/6 you'll see a significant reduction to Starship Mastery skill point requirements. This means many of you flying T5-U or T6 ships will likely gain a level.

While I think the changes you'll be seeing soon are great and are a big step in the right direction, I will be keeping a close eye on both your feedback and how these changes feel in a live environment.

    Best Regards,

So CST LSD, if you master the I, II, III and IV what's next? Then the ship your flying is completely mastered. Might consider if the ship is at Master IV there should be a slight change in the way the ship looks (color wise neon led or etc) or having M4 ID Tag appear so others can tell your using M4 ship. This is something that could be considered. Thanks for your time ! :)

Oh, one comment on ship Mastery, after all. :)

The Mastery skills seems to be a bit inconsistent. On my Mobius they're excellently Escort/Destroyer oriented; but my Elachi S'Golth Escort seems to have rather lackluster Mastery shield heal skills and such (more belonging to a cruiser, really).

@OP Thank you very much for this. I don't mind spending time in a ship I like to use but spending ages (felt) in a ship which doesn't suit (personal or profession) just for the trait is pain.

More good communication, that's very nice to see.

Haven't really been keeping an eye on the mastery system, chiefly because I'm never going to own a T6 ship, so the ship traits are likely gonna remain empty for all my chars. The free T5-Us are the only ones that have that system, and TBH I don't really see much difference between them and what they were at T5. Once I get finished leveling the risian ships, breen ships, and the one lockbox ship I have, the system becomes useless, since I'll just go back to my T5 ships and play them, because they're more fun to fly.

Interesting. I had the feeling that the way it currently is is the right pacing.

I would be thankful if you would consider making the starship leveling faster or at least making the trait available instantly when buying a T6 ship.

Because like it is now you get a captain in the wrong ship (for example a sci in a phantom) just levelling it for the trait for ages which takes the fun away.

Wasn't there sumthing mentioned at the beginning that starship traits are account wide unlocks? That would also help this problem.

While I do agree that starship mastery is a bit slow to trickle in, I see it as a symptom of a much more serious issue: the overall painstaking slowness of XP gain in STO as of late.

If XP were to be un-nerfed, starship mastery would also pick up and things progress at a more enjoyable pace. One fix, several issues solved and many grumpy customers turned into happy customers. Win-win all around.

it also occurs to me what will happen to these mastery points once a ship has reached its maximum level, it would be a shame to waste them.
perhaps when they reach their maximum any extra points earned could be channelled in to a starship automatic buff that will be topped up by points gained but used up while in combat, maybe extra shield or hull resilience or some such.
but only for the ship the points are earned on, this would apply to T5U and T6 ships.

or maybe into a special extra that could be invoked by the player like for example a pulse wave that would disable enemy shields for say 30 seconds, then any extra points could be stacked for use at a players choice so a player could use this ability 3-4 times or more in a mission but with say a 5 minute cooldown.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Before the XP nerf the ship progression was great. I think the solution lies in getting the XP numbers worked out and the ship progression wont feel like a grind.

I'm flying ships I would never have flown on toons just to get the traits. So your system to get players to play more ships is working but the time vs. reward is too long to fly a ship that doesn't fit your toon. XP adjustments would fix this.

    Cool.

While the logic of keeping Factions (and fractions) separate by having individual advantages is appealing (I wasn't very happy about FEDs getting slowly all that was KDF staple), I will point out the glaringly obvious in your post: The KDF has neither the Scimitar nor Reciprocity. The good consoles that come on lower Tier KDF ships have mostly been lockboxed to other factions as well. Raiders, cloaking, battlecruisers - all has been offered to others.

I'd love for the Devs to give something to the KDF, but I know it's unlikely. So at least I ask they offer what they give to FEDs (who will always get more) to trickle down back to KDF at least in some sort.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

    Hi all,

In my original post I mentioned that Starship Mastery skill point requirement reductions would make it into tomorrow's patch, however it has come to my attention that it will have to be introduced in a later patch. Our hope is that it makes it into next Thursday's patch. I'll keep you all informed as I find out more.

No biggie. :) Like I said earlier, ship Mastery 'grinding' is as good as a non-issue for me anyway: you gratuitously reap Mastery points grinding for other things (Specialization points). Far as I'm concerned, it doesn't even need to be reduced either.

Very low priority. Loadouts, on the other hand... :D

Thank you for the update! Seriously, it's good communication like this that we really like vs hearing nothing, then seeing nothing in the patch notes, then seeing nothing in game on patch day, followed by threads asking what happened that then turn negative and circle out of control.

For example: I still don't know why my Talaxian bridge officer is not proccing R&D matts when it's been said twice by a dev that it's been fixed. Nothing in the patch notes followed by nothing in the game, makes me annoyed when simple communication would make us all happy.

Haha yeah, I'd like to know what's happening with this too. Neither my Talaxian Boff or my Talaxian playable character are proccing with this.

Meh. I don't personally have a problem with the time it takes to push my ship mastery up, as it hasn't taken me long at all to max out my 7 most played character's primary ships and moved on to their secondary ships. In my opinion, however; the mastery should have been done per player 'class' rather than per ship type. On the KDF side of things I have most of my characters flying the Hoh'Sus which includes one of each career. They all end up with the same mastery traits, doing basically the same thing and to be honest it's a little boring in that respect.

Like I said though, just my opinion.
