I dont mind a challenge. That partially why I play on no lower a game setting than advanced. However, with the news of Cryptic declaring a nerfwar on the players, Id like to see them leave the combat pets alone and focus on cleaning their own house. Not just the TREMENDOUS amount of bugs and issues affecting everyday gameplay for tons of players (random crashes to desktop, lag spikes, power trays resetting themselves, etc.) but how about swinging that bat back on themselves a little
I am talking about the Vaadwuar. All in all, they are not a bad enemy. Theyre clever on the ground and in space, and they have some nasty abilities. However, as I was running a patrol in the Delta Quadrant, I was obliterated no fewer than a dozen times in the first wave. Now keep in mind that, despite running MKXII gear, I run high dps and have great hull/shield strength and regen. With the added perks of specialization sills, it is not impossible that, on the occasion my shields are whittled down, I turn my scim around and watch as my elite adaptive shields heal themselves pretty quickly, tossing in a few shield abilities if needed. Even if they get my shields down, I run at nearly a solid 50%+ resistance on my hull. Usually I can manage to hold my own long enough, with the help of my advanced Rom drones, to take a group down one by one.
But that applejack minefield the Vaadwuar use? Thats nasty. Granted, I want that ability badly, but its rough. I can never seem to be able to target those mines or whatever they are, can barely get a BFI going and evasive manoeuvres sometimes, if I am lucky, eeks me out before they detonate. Even with this I admire the ability. I dont hate it.
However, during this particular run, I was faced with four (FOUR!) Vaadwuar cruisers who stacked that ability on me time and time again. I could barely get out of one before three more went off. It is impossible to repair or escape; all I can do is watch my hull go from 100% to dead in a matter of seconds. Dont get me started when they THEN decide to implement the actual mines on top of that
Even this I dont mind once, maybe twice but a DOZEN TIMES?! Seriously? Playing the game should be challenging but it should never be an exercise in frustration get in, drop their hull to 30%, die, go back (by now, mind you, theyve started to heal their hulls) , rinse and repeat. This certain ability needs to be nerfed either in amount of damage dealt or how often the NPC can use it. If they are smart and stagger it, great. Kudos. If they use it all at once, I should be able to respawn and get back into the fray with at least enough time to do some damage before they can use it again.
Cryptic, seriously. For once stop worrying about how youre going to slap the players and start paying attention to your own game. I am sure whichever Dev developed this particular skill was proud of himself and, again, its a great skill but increase the cooldown time between uses, eh? Stop trying to define more challenging gameplay by extra health for npcs, half the xp, drops and rewards for players and for the love of all that is holy FIX THE BUGS!
The "applejack minefield" is actually an artillery strike and is untargetable. Those X's that you see are where the artillery are going to explode. If you see these, run like hell evasive maneuvers is good for this.

That involves thinking , I did not sign up to play this game to think.
Absolutly positively disagree with this thread, sorry to say.
Short of putting HPs back to a managable level (which they appear to be doing), mobs do not need to get a nerf. If anything they need a better working AI that doesn't just sling things aroudn willy-nilly with no tactical sense what so ever at all.
The Vaadwaur are perfectly fine, if they loose a bit of their HPs. In fact I'd like them to get a bit smarter kind of how the Hierarchy is. Make them slightly easier to kill, but make you actually have to use half the powers that just sit there on your trays during PvE and you never use because of how stupidly the NPCs actually do stuff... like evasive manuevers.
Mob HPs need a nerf. Mobs themselve need a serious AI buff.

It is... and I do. As well as brace for impact, singularity jump and prayer.... like I said, when this happens once, no worries. When it's stacked 2-3 times, not even prayer can help. And when the CDs for the applejack attack (tm pending) are shorter than your evasive abilities, DOOOOM!
Then have that stacked over and over again during a run... gah!

That's your prerogative and I respect that. However, I am not saying the Vaadwuar need a massive nerf I just think this particular ability needs a longer cd OR a damage nerf .
Again, I dont mind the ability. But when 4 cruisers can take me out twelve times before I can eliminate a single one of them, somethings wrong. Lets face facts: if the roles were reversed Cryptic would be using a nerf hammer on it.
Its not my playstyle and its not my build. As I sad, I can handle my own in a multitude of events, advanced and beyond, but when this applejack attack STACKS, taking me from full hull to dead in seconds, forcing me to respawn and as soon as I get there it happens again, and again something is definitely askew.

I'm not positive about this but...,
I think I've noticed that if I use BFAW just before I hit a 'speed' enhancement...,
The closest "depth charges" don't pop (they just fade away) and I get a second or two more of distance between the remaining ones and my ship.
The big thing though while fighting the Vaadwar, is to keep the camera view of your ship at a fairly large distance so as to see when those are incoming.
It's kinda like visual sonar.

If you are fighting more than one of these ships at a time, the best strategy is to lure one at a time off from the pack.
Don't dive into the middle of them and expect to survive for more than a few moments. (I'm sure you know that already), it's become exactly like what the submarine captains use to do...
Skirt along the edges of the enemy and pick off one or two at a time.

Are you having these issues while playing normal difficulty or only on Adv/Elite?
I don't play normal.
I don't think it's an issue of advanced... I shouldn't have to adjust my entire game setting for one group of NPCs, ya?
And it's not the Vaadwuar theselves, it's just this one ability, and even then, only when they stack it.
Imagine you're in PVP and 2-3 players have abilities which shred your hull to atoms. That's life; you respawn, brush yourself off and go back in... but how many times can they stack this ability and kill you before it's "too much"?
I'll take a Vaadwuar Heavy Artillery ship down, even with the adds with some difficulty. They, too, use the applejack attack but when I encounter a group of 3-4 cruisers they seem to layer this attack over and over again, killing me instantly, then by the time I respawn and get back into the fray their CD has ended and they do it again thats my beef. Its like throwing a cold meatball at a Sherman tank and expecting to actually accomplish something.

Ive tried that as well with little to no success again, 1 on 1 its usually not an issue. 3-1 its a slaughter.
The ONLY thing Ive noticed that actually attacks the apple jacks is an isometric discharge but that has a 2 min cd.
If I could pull the ships away from th4e main group and take them on 1-1 itd be great. As of yet I havent been able to really accomplish that without pulling an add.

Actually this may seem unpopular to you, but I'm guessing that it is your build actually. I've discovered I've needed to tweak my build a bit against DR mobs, simply because they're not totally stupid when compared to ALpha Quadrant mobs.
Take for example the forementioned Vaadwaur. I've needed to add either crowd control (which I had in spades on my science ship), or I needed to bring in a bit more damage resistance and lower my dps just a smiggin.
I have a cruiser that literally I've taken 4 applejack attack stacks and barely even felt it, because he Damage resistance is so high. Then I had an assault cruiser I needed to tweak because it's resistances were low when compared to it's dps output.
Escorts, I'll admit I'm not an escort fan and I don't fly them well, but escorts seemed to me to be a bit too squishy for solo in DR.
But of course that's simply by trying to grab all the t-6 traits primarily that I could. Also brace for impact works pretty well against the applejacks attack if you get caught on the edge of one.
I think I've noticed that if I use BFAW just before I hit a 'speed' enhancement...,

I noticed that too. In the Vesta, either the pink bubble, or even Point Defense seems to be able to counter it.
Of course, now we've said that, there will be an Attack Pattern Nerfbat incoming in 3... 2.... 1....
Maybe, but I am happy with my build, other than the fact I need to start upgrading my gear to XIII or XIV, which may make a difference
As a Scim I have only 3 eng console slots, each filled with elite fleet neutronium alloy which gives me a decent protection against kinetic and all energy types. I also use the Elite Fleet Regenerative Shield Array Mk XII which adapts to incoming energy types. I have a few other bits and bobs, including gold, epic consoles normally speaking, I am ironhide.
Its just the stacked apple jack attack that gets me. I managed to do the patrol where youre getting blasted by the planet-to-orbit attacks with little difficulty and can survive/evade the apple jacks a fair amount . But again, when their cd is shorter than my evasive it gets frustrating fast.
As I said above, you can't beat the Vaddy's in a Pack vs One engagement if you go headlong into the battle.
It takes a bit of finesse now... well, A LOT of finesse now.
You have to lure one or two of them out away from the group and then keep track where you are so as to not pull more of them on top of you.
It's probably one of the few times that having Less Aggro is a good tactic.

You need to add some Engine Devices to your load-out so as to have an emergency backup for the Evasive CD.
You also need to get away from double/triple stacking the same items.
That works well for the lower level NPC's but these higher level NPC's are using more tactics and you have to be able to adapt/counter with different/multiple BOff powers and consoles depending on the situation.

I'm curious as to what your other +res abilities are. While having 3 fleet neutroniums is nice, I find I need to supplement it with brace, aux2sif, HE, polarize, etc to sometime survive multiple barrages.

One thing I know I have to do is get a new 3 piece rep set, but I am waiting to full the new Delta rep to T5 before I start that .
I don't really have a problem with this ability either tbh. I go in from the side so I am not facing them all at once and if I see the little Xs appearing I make sure I am somewhere else using evasive or rock and roll.
Oh that undine movement console thingie is good against it too, the one that moves you into subspace.

Huh...that may explain why my Vesta is actually holding up against that attack. It's a CC build, never meant for the highest DPS but with a lot of survivability built into the shields and defensive powers and not just offensive. It's been like that since I started with the old Elite STF's. I may not take you down fast but I tend to stay alive and be able to wear the patrols down.
Which still translates into a lot of pain, sometimes even physical pain, if I do many of these fights in a row. But I do stay alive as long as I watch when I pop each buff, and try my best to reserve one as an emergency bug-out button in case of incoming cannon barrage.
My pets, on the other hand...their survivability isn't great and that could be a serious loss to me unless other scaling issues are addressed simultaneously.

As far as dealing with stacked heavy Vaaduar craft in a scimi...... I recommend keeping drones out as much as possible, utilize the intelligence space spec buffs, and Battle cloak is your friend. Poiints to pilot spec for innate maneuvering boosts don't hurt either, give you a hard turn as they tend to do the strikes based upon predicting your path, so a cloaking turn will throw it off, and equip for shields while cloaked.

shields while cloaked is available from the console that comes from the Tulwar. That and the secondary shields I keep, the third console, cloaked barrage I find useless overall, same with the three console bonus active and passive, the 2 console maneuvering bonus is good though.

Isn't that console bound to the character with the ship tho?
I didn't buy the set, just the scim I wanted/needed.

I haven't flown my Shim is a while, but having a couple of different 'speed' options and watching out for the "Power Puff" shots should keep you alive longer than not.
Also, really..., the big things is to NOT try and take on several of the Vaddy ships at the same time.
(epeen is really waaaayyy over-rated)
Bust and run is the best option, maneuver your ship to a point where you can lure one or two of them away from the pack.

Maybe you should run on "Normal". I have never died to a Vaardwar ship on normal difficulty. Sounds like the very premise of your post is faulty. Obviously you don't want the challenge of higher difficulty if you mind getting blown up by "Advanced" Vaardwar...
I did do the new missions on my rom as soon as she hit the right lvl for each mission and i did find them hard.
My other chars ive lvl up to 54 before doing the new missions now i know to keep my speed up im not getting one shot killed like i did at 1st.
The devs will all ways give the players counters to npc powers you need to use a bit of brains thats all

You too? must be a girl thing...
Let me clarify...a T5U Scim....
How can I get shields while cloaked?
Isn't that console bound to the character with the ship tho?
I didn't buy the set, just the scim I wanted/needed.
I haven't flown my Shim is a while, but having a couple of different 'speed' options and watching out for the "Power Puff" shots should keep you alive longer than not.
Also, really..., the big things is to NOT try and take on several of the Vaddy ships at the same time.
(epeen is really waaaayyy over-rated)
Bust and run is the best option, maneuver your ship to a point where you can lure one or two of them away from the pack.
