Talaxians!?!?

My rep here is probably mostly as a Cryptic defender, but this time they've gone too far. Seriously. I read the patch notes, "Oh, that's nice, Fedrats will get to make their own Neelix knockoffs...." Then I paused, "Wait...both Federation AND Klingon factions....?"

Ffs, KDF Talaxians? Really? There are Talaxians out there whose hearts thrill with bloodlust at the thought of battle?

Bad enough we've got half the KDF in game composed of what appear to be 'cutesy' human females, now Talaxians?

I'm guessing Cryptic thought we Klingon players would complain about Feds being given another race. In this case, we wouldn't. If you really wanted to be cross-faction friendly, why didn't you give the Feds Talaxians, the KDF one of the Kazon factions, and the Rommies the Hirogen?

I had a similar reaction. Give me a Kazon-Ogla! I really liked Neelix and Ethan Phillips is doing a great VO in DR. But I just can't see a Talaxian in the KDF. Although Neelix knew how to seduce one of our women.

This kinda fits in with what the Devs were originally planning waaaay back in the day. Originally, we were gonna have playable Ocampa for the Feds, playable Kazon for the KDF and playable Talaxians for both.

Also, as for Talaxians being in the KDF, let's apply Joined Trill logic here: If there can be a bunch of Joined Trill KDF-side because Dax happened to be buddy-buddy with a few Klingons, then there can be a bunch of Talaxians KDF-side because Neelix got lucky with one of their females in that one episode :P

Then where's my KDF Ferengi based on House of Quark? I can see many Ferengi fitting in just fine with our Nausicaan, Orion, and Lethean friends. Better than any Talaxian I've ever seen, at least.

Pretty much this. I don't have a problem with Talaxians in the KDF. Playable joined Trill were a pre-order bonus, and had to be given to both Federation and KDF for parity. Same here.

*Shrug* Maybe one of these days. Honestly, Talaxians I don't mind, but I still kinda wish we'd gotten something other than Joined Trill for our pre-order bonus.

I know it sounds absurd but I do remember both episodes where Neelix was an Warior....

    1. Prophecy
    2. Killing Game

So why could it not be like more talaxians to join the KDF Side....

The thing to remember about Star Trek is this: Most of the characters we see in the shows/movies probably aren't completely representative of their races as a whole.

For instance, if everyone in the Klingon Empire was as bloodthirsty as we see a lot of them in TNG act, there would BE no Empire. You need doctors, lawyers, scientists, educators, etc. for a society to function. Someone has to invent the weapons that the warriors use.

Enterprise touched on this a bit with some of their Klingon encounters (specifically the one where Archer is put on trial and has a lawyer).

I feel like not all Talaxians are going to be like Neelix. Sure, a lot of them are but maybe some ARE bloodthirsty. It's not hard to make that leap. Not all humans are like Captain Picard. Some are murderous, horrible people. It's just how it is.

We've seen a Ferengi assasin who kills potential customers and doesn't care for money and the Talaxians did have a military (plus implied conquests).

Some Talaxians not being like Neelix and plaguing the KDF isn't too strange.

Talaxians fit in fine with the KDF. When the Hirogen took over Voyager and threw everybody on the Holodecks, it is surely no surprise we see Neelix sharing blood wine with his Klingon Brothers. Of course a Talaxian in control of a KDF ship is a slightly more laughable matter (unless the crew has been placated by constant food poisoning)

I'd say Talaxians can work out pretty well in the KDF. I imagine many are filled with bload-soaked rage at the face of their species being Neelix. Nobody likes to be a stereotype....

The Feds sabotaged the Klingons by telling the Talaxians about Klingon food...so, as punishment for the war, Talaxians now irritate the Klingons too. Besides, who cares what Klingons think, we all know once the Orions became a part of the Empire their women would take over.
