I'm all for Cryptic making original music with the Trek spirit over using the original music, especially because it would be cheaper and they won't have to kill the budget for the actual game to do it. So long as it keeps that Trek spirit, whether it is Federation or Klingon, Borg, or Romulan, I'll be happy.
Given that they'd need an ongoing license for it, yes. As in, dropping an employee for each track for some of the iconic stuff.
There are lots of cheaper royalty free tracks from young composers for as little as $5, one time fee, usable in games of any size, that sound as good as Goldsmith, anyway.
The background music from episodes that guys like Ron Jones did might be doable, maybe up to and including stuff like The Inner Light theme and music from The Visitor.
The Klingon theme, DS9 theme, TNG theme, movie soundtracks, etc? I find it doubtful that they could be licensed in a way that wouldn't cost enough that they'd have to lay people off to license them.
All things said, though, I'd much rather have more fitting original music in the STYLE of the shows and if there's budget to be had on audio, get Data or Picard or Riker and Worf or someone big from the shows in the game, voiced, and front and center.
That's what I mean, that they don't bother to get licensed music from the show, I don't want it. I want Cryptic to make their own and actually put some effort into making it good to listen to.
It sounds like it was taken from some campy sci-fi movie.
Umm. Have you ever seen a Star Trek movie? Ever? How would you describe them if not "campy sci-fi?" Even Star Trek II: The Good One was pretty campy.
Aside from that: I couldn't disagree more. I've been trying to buy the soundtrack to this game for a while and haven't been able to find it for sale anywhere. While the music isn't directly from the shows or movies, I think it feels very Treky.

Do you mean like all those characters in your signature, who are voiced by their original actors and are currently featured in every STO promo, or do you mean like that god-awful performance Michael Dorn phoned in for the Obelisk mission?
I mentioned before about startrek music.
startrek 2 when reliant attacks enterprise, and startrek 3 stealing the enterprise.
These are 2 great pieces of music. I doubt cryptic will listen though.
They are obsessed with dollar signs.
I already mentioned about Trek music in a past thread.
When reliant attacks the enterprise and stealing the enterprise. Both pieces of music here are awesome.

You'd think composers would be lining up to get their Star Trek music featured in a Star Trek game for free...
