Observations...

goodscotchgoodscotch Member Posts: 1,680 Arc User
After upgrading two Fleet T5 ships to T5-U and upgrading all my gear on one vessel to Mk XIV and leveling from 50 to 56, here are my observations.

The new DR scenarios become very predictable. You begin to expect that after you go to a spot or scan an item that several enemy ships will appear and that you'll end up fighting them for the next fifteen to twenty minutes. After the first encounter of this kind, there are two or three more...rinse and repeat...and then the scenario is over and you're awarded your Delta marks. Next!

This can get monotonous. The only positive aspect of this is that the enemy ships hit hard enough to keep you engaged. If you start napping, you will lose. Once you learn the enemy weaponry and what best to do when you face them, it gets very repetitive.

Being honest here. I spent money in order to get my ship's gear up to Mk XIV. If I hadn't, I wonder how I would have survived some of these scenarios. I can't imagine what some players are experiencing who are leveling their weaponry, shields, engines and consoles the hard way. On a Fleet T5-U Tor'khat, my hull is now over 80,000 and my shield facings are over 21,000 with decent resistance ratings, all close to 40%. So I think my ship is decent. And yet some of these ship combat scenarios leave my ship spent. Again...I can't imagine what other folks are experiencing. Maybe I just stink at this game...could be.

The storylines are fun and amusing and it's good to see and hear the characters from Voyager. That's a big plus obviously being a Star Trek fan and a fan of that particular show.

My suggestions would be for the developers to create some scenarios that don't involve any combat at all. If possible make them so that depending on your responses, there are different outcomes. These scenarios would give less experience and reward, but would add to the overall experience of DR.

Hah, the joke is that pretty much half of the new Delta Rising story is actually a selection of Patrol Missions. And you're right, they're monotonous. You know that after you defeat wave one, you've another two or three to take out. You also know that if you're fighting the Vaudwaar, you're going to take longer than you'd ideally wish before you succeed in taking them out.

Overall kinda funny, don't you think?
The same stuff that was removed earlier this year, random space maps in which you warp in and kill X amount of enemy groups and warp out, because it was subpar and not up to quality standards is now half the so much advertised and praised expansion content.

Way to go Cryptic......way to go....

Why did you think they were removed in the first place?

    Steps:
    1. Remove content of specific type
    2. Wait for rage
    3. Create hype about new content
    4. Wait till the rage clears off and focus shifts
    5. Release content of removed type in pretty package
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

If this is the case, I actually find it rather sad that they had to use what are essentially foundry farming missions that they deemed to be exploitive after the foundry divas threw their tantrums about their content not getting played enough to be ranked in the upper end of the search listings.

I say IF because as of last night I finally broke down took one character and played the first DR mission ?Mindscape?, but thought it was such TRIBBLE I refuse to play through the rest of DR.

Played a mission last night where I was zip-lining and rappelling all over the place. Nice change up from the pew-pew for fifteen minutes on three consecutive groups. Soon after this mission, I made level 57.

A nice change of pace from the 45+ minute destroy all the Vaadwaur ship missions.

Treasure your memories of that mission because you'll never see anything like that again unless you replay it for a ridiculous low amount of xp. Everything later will be the same "go there kill 5 waves of X" type "missions" over and over again.

A number of the patrol missions are very different. I won't post examples as they are spoilers. But I can think of quite a few that are totally different than kill x amount.

    yeah ok spoiler alert.!!!

the shuttle race, hide behind the asteroid and ambush, the blockade runner - tow the medical ship. use the holograme to convince allies to fight together. The solar flares borg cube thing.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some from the first set. And I haven't played the last set.

Yeah well too bad I tossed out any and all shuttles due to the buggy type problems a person can get just from owning one. But hey, one less stupid mission I have to do!

Unless I am absolutely bored, I am just skipping those story patrol missions. They are long and difficult. Plus, my graphics card doesn't like the ambient scenery as my experience becomes choppy--making it difficult, if not impossible, to fight.

Is our only hope The Foundry? Will have to start looking into what's offered and maybe start designing some of my own.

The patrol missions I never really liked as I found them repetative aanyways, so this new content has already had my eyes rolling, however, I do like Kobali Prime, the Devs have done a good job with that, and its where I spend my XP farming.

Saying that, i'm level 56, and about to start the level 56 missions, so I can imagine I will run into a few more patrol missions before I hit 60.

Just out of curiosity - to those who have reached 60 - how many openworld map locations are there in the Delta quadrant?

Foundry has always been an alternative, yet it gets trash-talked and I don't know why. There are some great stories in there and more keeps getting added.

Playing Foundry mission makes all the grind go away because you take breaks from the Rep, refresh yourself (so to speak) and then get back to it. :D

Have you tried making a mission in the foundry.

    Worst..

    UGC...

    "Tool"...

    EVER....

I made one mission... NEVER again.

That's what I was afraid of. I'll have to start looking at it.

    tow the medical ship.

So bad, I had to login to the forum for the very first time to respond to this.

This patrol is AWFUL. Kill three groups of Vaad, then repair three ships (read: kill three smaller groups of Vaad), then tow two med ships (read: kill two more small groups of Vaad). All while the map is spamming infinite AoEs that can potentially wreck your shields / hull at an inopportune time, sometimes two and three at a time. By the end, I was wishing "leave the Talaxians to the Vaadwaur" was an option. Worse than a 5/5.
The solar flares borg cube thing

A 5/5 with an ally and a periodic mass dmg / debuff. More of the same in a slightly different format.

I DID like the asteroid hide & seek, but that whole second to last patrol block just made me utterly sick of shooting at Vaad.
