I love Star Trek....and I loved this game.....(note past tense..."loved")
I am soul destroyed at the changes that make my love for this game fade away. Since DR has came out...everything I loved about the game has been taken away. Cryptic have turned the game into a pay to play game and it's hurtfull.....very very hurtfull.
I have enjoyed role playing and casual gamplay (spending VAST amounts of money on costumes and cosmetics and ships that look the part) to be a part of my very much loved star trek world. BUT since DR...my elite fleet gear kitted out ship cannot hold it's own in NORMAL DIFFICULTY in story missions...I logged in today (after the patch that nerfed NPCS) and it's STILL long winded...dragged out fights that nearly kill my ship in what used to be an enjoyable daily (DEFERI DAILIES). It seems I have to upgrade my ship and gear as my mk 12 elite fleet weapons are still water pistols and I cannot play the game anymore without wanting to throw my PC out the window. The game has become money hungry and difficult and grindingly boring and I cannot sit around for hours just to complete the deferi dailies. I now feel ashamed of myself of spending so much money on ships/costumes ect. I bought FIFTY pounds worth of zen to get ship upgrades/gear ect...and STILL im laughably underpowered and struggling at NORMAL LEVEL...I'm deflated and very angry and annoyed.
There will be players who tell me normal is still easy...but I work full time and long hours...and don't have crazy good builds with great strategy and advanced consoles...but I did have fleet weapons and decent enough that content was fun and enjoyable...and a game I played JUST FOR FUN (sometimes addictive fun)
It took me all week sitting on wether to cancel my sub...after all, I have been active for years (since BETA)...but every ticket, every request for DEV support and every FORUM POST I have made has fell unnoticed. The customer service is non existent and I feel terrible that I'm cancelling my sub...almost like I'm loosing an arm....as the game was such a large part of my social enjoyment. I even booked time off work to play DR..only to wish I had stayed at work and not wasted my holiday....but I HAVE to cancel my sub now...as I cannot afford to keep upgrading ALL weapons, consoles, gear to MK 14 just so I feel like I can play standard difficulty, MY 6 monthly sub was due at the end of this month, but I feel like I'm handing money-over-fist for a service that will take my money....and demand so very much more just to make the game enjoyable and possible to play comfortably.
I'm so very very sad I'm leaving, but the developers only want money and do not care about casual players only wanting fun. NORMAL difficulty should not be so demanding and tough and over powered. Advanced...yeah...maybe. ELITE...deffo...but Normal...normal I used to thrive in....enjoy...look forward to each and every day...but not any more I'm so very sad to say...and I cannot justify my pounds for it anymore. You have killed this game slowly CRYTIC...and you have squeezed so much money out of my love for star trek....
Yup. I'm out too. I haven't been around nearly as long as some of you, but I'm one more paying customer fed up with the incompetence and hostile, predatory tactics taken towards all players of late.
I've had this account since PWI launched, and played some of PWE's lineup of games in the years since, and this is the end of all of them for me. I won't be treated like this.
Perhaps you can cancel your sub and still play the game? You could put the saved money towards other purchases (if you wanted).
You say you've been subbed for 1689 days? Can someone tell me if there is any point to subbing after 1000 days, as I thought you had all the rewards after 1000 days?
I know if you are a lifer you get all the rewards straight away, but subbing monthly (like I used to) you get the timed release of the rewards, but there isn't anything after 1000 days is there?

The only gain is the 500 Zen a month. Which is down right a rip off. But some players rationalize that what it is theyre doing is supporting Cryptic and keeping Star Trek Online alive. For no other reason than the Star Trek title.
I quit postings are usually not permitted by cryptic. If you have been long enough you would have seen the same "hot" issues of bugs, cleaning so called exploits, nerfing since beta...or 9.5 times. With every new season there are issues and Cryptic still stands the test of time...sorry for those who go but if you stayed long enough you will see the pattern...lots of GOOD people leave...then lots of new GOOD come again...its the cycle of an MMO..goodluck but so glad to see new blood in the game as well :D:D
....And so long as people defend them...unfair cash sinks will remain and things are less likely to improve
Yes, how dare Cryptic and PWI want to make a profit on a game. They should charge the absolute minimum to recoup their costs and give us the rest for free, right Comrade?
I'll keep it free to play (so I can check content after updates) in the hope things change...But I'm done paying for the foreseeable..
Glad to hear this isn't an 'I quit' thread.
You could consider cancelling your sub as you have done and stay free to play for a while. If you bought keys and sold them on the exchange you would be able to start buying the mk 14 gear you want, and still save money each month compared to what you were paying.
I understand the rage right now, but I also understand the pain of giving up on a game that you've enjoyed for over four years.
Cancelling your sub might end up being for the best.
Had I not purchased a lifetime, along with the other purchases I made I would probably be out too. If I had known what this game was before I began playing I wouldn't have started. Really the last thread that holds me to this game right now are the friends I made in my fleet.

TACO..thanks for getting back to me...It's a shame I only have a dev getting back to me when I say I'm cancelling my sub however. I'm happy it's free to play (so I can check content) in the hopes of changes. I feel "attached" to my characters...I have nurtured them for over 4 years....so I can't just 'cut tail' and run...but the paid changes...I just can't justify the cost anymore...I don't feel I get any moneys worth.

Im one of those player's that rationalizes this been a gold member since dec 2010 but as I said in a recent post im dropping it on the 29th of this month (might as well finish out my month) then I'll go f2p.
I never once cared how long I subbed did it to support cryptic but with all the changes and being punished each time a exploit happens and I am not even involved im done I'll keep my 14.99 a month and play for free I just hope they can get a replacement loyal group of subbers to replace the ones their losing. I love this game and hope it lasts but...I nolonger feel like supporting it.
Well. . . yes. I am in the middle of checking in some work, and thought I'd browse the forums while I wait. . . What should I be doing instead, exactly?

Again, sorry to hear that. I do know the feeling. I don't get into games quite as much as some of you. Rather I tend to bounce between things more often. So, do as you see fit. If that means cancelling right now, that's fine. I'm pretty sure your characters all stick around in suspended animation, and if/when you want to come back, or give it another go, please do.

The captain specializations issue, if you would please. Is this being looked into or is this intentional?

I don't know if you know this, but he's an Environmental Artist. He doesn't do that. Please read his signature and don't be ignorant over his "dev" title.

i may as well ask that one question everyon else has their mind on, can i haz your stuff?
one more player wont be missed, the cryptic team have their plan and you should of just left quietly if your gonna do it, you dont need to explain your reasons, everyone has a reason and usually its the same deal, that something in the game is not the same as what brought you to it and now you feel the need to tell everyone else.. if i were in your position i wouldnt care if anyone noticed if i left or not and frankly they dont care nor do they really want to know, so just leave it like that.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

But, the good news is, STO is Free to Play! Come back if/when you feel like it.
That said, 'I Quit' threads are against forum rules, so this will be closed shortly.

That's excellent advice and worth remembering.
