So far I am level 54 and I do not dislike the expansion but it isn't what I expected it to be. I was expecting a lot more story. From the trailers and discussions with the devs, I was thinking the expansion was going to give us lots of episodes with lots of cool stories in the Delta Quadrant. The few episodes I have done so far were quite good, not so much the patrols though. It disappoints me to know that I only have 8 or so episodes left to play before I complete the story arc. I had been somewhat disappointed with recent seasons because they had very little story. I was thinking they must be saving all their story for Delta Rising, but I guess...not so much. Given that I have only completed episodes up until the first level 54 episode, my opinion may change.
it depends on how you define story. patrols with the wrapper are actually fairly important things it you pay attention, but it's not as flashy or interesting as diving into tuvok's mind. the ground zone's story that pretty much covers the same length as the main story. so it does have alot but not quite what people were think which is a depressingly common thing around here. and more is planned.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
patch is coming for that, just do elite when you feel up to it for the extra exp, rest of the time speed though on normal... may take more run but it can be less annoying.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
It doesn't help matters that the patrol missions are so long and drawn out.
Four waves of numerous ships with stupidly high HP over and over again gets boring quickly.
It also doens't help that the Mission itself rewards a pitiful amoutn of SP and basically no usable items, at least the patrols don't.
We will see how much the patch really does to the HP sponges, the percantage reduction is by far not enough, but we don't know how much the scaling is changing the final HP yet. I have Zero interest in doing any of the patrols ever again, even the Story parts will be horrible for leveling characters in the gear you might have picked up along the way.
I personally enjoyed the DR story and am looking forward to more. The story is really engaging if you actually read and pay attention. As for the tedious part I play science and run a hull hammer part gen build so I didn't have the smacking a wall issue that tacs with cannons are having on elite mode 650k hull ship 55 seconds to kill 1M hp ship? 1:30 to kill. Each mission/patrol took me 15 mins on elite.
Have to agree with the OP. The story they have given us is good and generally well made, the patrol aspect I don't like at all, yes it adds to the story but not in the way LoR did. For Cryptic to say this is their best expansion to date, well there have only been two, means they are comparing it to LoR which was a masterpiece imo.
Yes we are told there is more coming, we are also told we'd get secondary deflectors and a pvp revamp, sorry, call me a sceptic but as far as Cryptic goes it's a case of seeing is believing.
I'm still waiting on a dozen different kdf things... I doubt I'm ever going to get em.
pvp revamp I doubt is coming too much work for too little reward. and their probably never going to get around to adding secondary deflectors to older ships too many people freak out if the show any sign of not making alot of new ships.
I disagree on the story part though LoR was great but with all the complains about not enough trek stuff I rather like the new patrols... you want be a starfleet captain his is alot of what they do... with a little more pew pew but people freak out if there is not alot of pew pew. and their lowing those high hp levels a bit so back to the 30 second fights... shame though it was kinda nice with fights actually take as long as the did in the show... when it wasn't annoying.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
I don't follow dev statements like others do so correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't the devs told us they are planning to release more stuff in the Delta Quadrant?
yes for the next year. I think the number they gave was 9 to 13 months on delta stuff but don't quote me on that.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
I think you are right about the patrols being more Trek, but they should then have more diplomatic side to them, maybe a bit more conversation, or option to end the conflict in a more peaceful way.
I'd welcome more story too. I'd like to see New Talax turn into something like New Romulus, with an adventure zone and aiding the Talaxians set up. (I'm only at level 57 currently and was hoping this was also included)

Sure more is coming ... can't wait till one FE every week ... wait, that's not a thing anymore ? :P
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
This is a great idea, I was rather hoping to explore Kobali without getting shot at every few seconds but if they added this with some interesting stories I'd certainly be happy.
I also think that this would be a wonderful opportunity to add a completely diplomatic type mission to the scene. We could have a Utopia on New Talax, it could be full of battle free mission. (OK maybe one or two wouldn't harm)
I do feel a little disappointed. Not massively but a bit. Its so padded out with patrols that statements saying this expansion is mainly all story content was a bit of a lie. However, I've heard they haven't released all the DR story yet and have held more back for a later release date.
So in a way, this is half the expansion in terms of story.
I won't say disappointed... but I was definitely expecting more story-related missions. The Kobali stuff felt like a sideshow and the patrols, while they aren't the worst (they're at least better than the old patrols), are still padding.
There were rumours of being able to designate boffs into a 2nd ship which sounded interesting. Interesting enough that it might have been a more attractive zen option than the upgrade modules as I have a nice variety of ships and could see myself messing about with potential synergies between them.
The claim that it's their best expansion yet makes me wish they'd give us the office copy not the half empty grindathon that was released last week. As much as I may dislike branding someone as a liar if there's not sufficient content to gain 10 levels without umpteen hours of grinding then to have a system in game that requires an effective level of 110 is kind of mind bogglingly false.
How much time do they think a lot of us have to dedicate to the game if they want us to grind that out before the next "best" expansion comes out thats just an empty sector. Or are they assuming that since voyager took 7 years to travel as far as they did in the delta quadrant that was a good number to aim for!
I can see why they released the gear upgrading beforehand since if you want to level at a decent pace you need something more than purple 12's to prevent elites patrols in delta becoming a mindless drudge. For some reason the minimal rewards from missions are mostly 12's so there's no incentive to swap those in.
Other odd thing about the patrols, they could have taken a page from season 1 of voyager and had us fly into nebulas instead of slugging it out against the inevitable 5 waves of tedium.
And the lvl gaps aren't helping the story either. But as far as the ground mission and zone i really like it. I hated the battlezone in the other update. But i really like Kolbi prime alot. I just wish they would stop not letting us have our full away team. I just don't get the reason behind letting us have only one or two.
Speaking for myself only, up until the launch of the new season i was basically at end game. finally after 3 years and with only a minimal amount of daily grinding i could actually play and have fun. the ratio being about 50/50 (50%grinding and 50% playing). like with most other MMO's the grinding was necessary in order to maintain the equipment i needed to go do missions and to play PVE and PVP.
Shortly before the patch with the intro of the upgrade system and the crafting system that grind immediately became 20/80 (20%play and 80% grind). now i was still able to swallow this because there was once again an end game coming, yes the dill hole got bigger but once my grinding to get back to the top of the hill was over i could let my everyday game play fill that hole after i hit lvl60.
But now i find out that you are taking the lvl60 dillithium away.... and why. not because it wasnt a great idea, not because it wouldn't lvl the game play for all players at end game..... because someone found a way to exploit it......
Well that's were im gonna say Stop.... Hold up...... One Moment Please...... instead of punishing the loyal players who still "actually want to play" and who are trying desperately to find a way to still enjoy this game, why are you not punishing the people who are exploiting your system. ban them, kick them, steal all of there worldly goods.......
But please stop punishing your player base! Those of us who are desperately trying to find a reason to keep playing.

That "rumor" was DStahls (or "Cryptic ~2012") original idea to level up to 60 (because ... well ... Fleet Admiral), about 2-3 years ago ... which obviously didn't happen, instead we got "Delta Grinding" ...
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
Nothing more than shoot first as questions later! There are some really good missions in there though but I say about out of scale of 100% you're looking at: 95% only 5% are very good missions (* see notes) and there is no lag in them either well one or two battle maps have a slight lag.
Minescape: 4 out of 5 stars
All that Glitters: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Capture the Flag: 4 out of 5 stars
The Dragon's Deceit 4.5 out of 5 stars Alliances: 4.5 out of 5 stars
The patrols would have been fun if they didn't have so much lag at times you really can't even fly the ship where you want it. I don't know it that was how they envision it because of the Delta Marks you need for the Rep System. At that rate going to take many days of playing to get to 100K.
* 3 after Alliances I haven't got up to yet so I can't comment on those.
I too was expecting more out of this Delta Rising they had a such a huge Marketing over it but not living up to it. I guess the scope was to be a full scale but but in the end they had to cut corners so let's add more patrol missions and let's make it very hard to win.
Then let's make all the normal patrols glitch to have elite mobs. Oh what fun that will be!
And that stupid, stupid, stupid race.
I am not Tom Paris, nor am I Jonathan Archer. I am a science officer. I have absolutely ZERO interest in personally flying in a shuttle race.
Don't do the shuttle it will really mess-up your skill trays if you add an additional shuttle in Delta Rising. They really need to fix that issue with loading, saving, locking tray layouts..
Borg Disconnection PVE - 4.5 out of 5 stars
Bug Hunt PVE - this only I did under my KDF Tac General Officer which walked away with 419 score just using a simple hand pistol. LOL
Delta Rising is not like an expansion would be in e.g. WoW. I doubt they made the expansion just to make us buy/upgrade ships. More missions will be added later. Probably not as quickly or as many as we'd like but it's better than nothing.
patch is coming for that, just do elite when you feel up to it for the extra exp, rest of the time speed though on normal... may take more run but it can be less annoying.
I doubt the patch is going to fix enough because the HP scaling is out of this world. Last night I watched my wife do "A Step Between Stars" 3 time to get the Dyson set and since she was level 55-56 (and the ship is horrible) the space combat parts took ages to complete.
It's pretty funny when your ship is using mostly whites and greens and even the Borg spheres have 150+k hull on normal difficulty.
I don't follow dev statements like others do so correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't the devs told us they are planning to release more stuff in the Delta Quadrant?

Yes, they said that it would be story light on initial release, with more to come.
Yes, they said that it would be story light on initial release, with more to come.
With the way the released story has been...while pretty good, has been somewhat disjointed with several twists and indications of branching into other stuff. Part of that could be the grind time one has between episodes where you lose part of the storyline.
But, from what I have played; it's almost like the initial release is a framework for a lot more content.
I had been somewhat disappointed with recent seasons because they had very little story. I was thinking they must be saving all their story for Delta Rising, but I guess...not so much.
