Graphic artifacting and game crash after Delta Rising update

I installed DR today. 10 minutes after logging in, I began seeing colored flickering artifacts (while flying in sector space) after which the game crashed. A dirty reboot was required. Already ran file verification from the launcher.

Second time, I managed to make it to Delta Command, noting that some UI elements were distorted (no funky colors this time.) The game then crashed again (but to the desktop.)

The GPU is not damaged- other stuff and benchmarks work fine. The system (inc. GPU) is fully water cooled and temps did not break 50C.

GPU is AMD R9-290X, CPU is Intel 4770K, 16GB RAM, all at stock clocks. Catalyst driver is at latest version (14.9)

Any ideas before I file a bug or try rolling back the driver?

In another thread about crashing, I wrote that I tested that changing the game from DX11 to DX9 in the options stops this new crashing and all those problems you listed.

Not favorable... but whatever they did is making the game mess up in DX11 mode. I haven't had any of those listed problems since switching.

I also have the same video card as you.

And, they also added this same thing to the workaround for our problem.

Its specifically with DX11, so change it to 9!

Oh, THIS again. I remember it well. :/

I'll give that a shot and see how it goes. Thanks!

Hi, I'm on a Mac and have the same issue, the moment I entered the Delta quadrant it started crashing. My partner is at a lower level and is playing the game just fine on the beginning missions on an identical machine. But now I can't team up and help her cause my machine keeps crashing. The game ran great for months, now it crashes.
Anyway, I've tried a number of things, I can't find the options to switch DX9 on my options page as you are describing.
Please review my first Foundry Mission. Attention to orders.
Mission Code: ST-HF7GJONHM - Update! This mission has graduated and can now be found in Browse All! Thank you everyone for your reviews.

I paid for this game and it does not work. I have done some research and found that this game no longer works on most Macintosh computers. If this is true you they should not sell it as compatible with apple. I have also heard there is no Macintosh help coming from STO anytime soon.
They claim everyone of my tickets as duplicate since they are all about crashing, but different crashes these days. This game has to make a lot of money and why they would not hire testers and run an update that is more like a beta test than an update is obviously a money making tactic. I hope they remember what happened to ET and Atari. If you rush games you will get a bad reputation and people will start leaving your servers for good.

I can confirm that on Windows at least, switching to DX9 fixes my issue in OP Just like the last time this sort of thing happened.

Not sure about Macs. It seems to only be happening on dedi-GPUs. The fact that it's "wrapped" and not native complicates things. Cider doesn't actually support full-fat DX11 afaik. You're getting the same shader error though, there's just no toggle to fix it.

You might try running the Windows client using a different wrapper such as Wineskin. I've heard that reduces the crashes a little. For what it's worth, my STO Linux winebottle still works as well as always (which is to say suboptimally, but it's not doing that.)

Go to the "Display" tab in Options and switch the topmost drop menu to DirectX9 (it defaults to "auto"). Then close and restart the game.

You'll still get the error text when you load the game, but it shouldn't crash (I have the same GPU and this fixed it for me.)

My game client has been crashing non-stop once I click engage button... I've tried all six options that show up under the display tab for the DirectX settings (I have 2 9's, 2 9e's and 2 11 options)... I'm running an Radeon R7 200 series card... This is absolutely frustrating - anyone have any fixes?

Are you talking about the launcher or in game options? My in game option-display-window (it is just the size of screen or window for game). Just trying to figure this out.

    In-game, not launcher.
