Cryptic are you trying to give me lung cancer?????

alaerickalaerick Member Posts: 166 Arc User
Seriously.. why the **** does it take 5 seconds between each Doff assignment to complete? If my wife isn't home I can either go smoke a cig or twiddle my thumbs waiting for these missions to complete.. btw.. I suck at twiddling my thumbs.. if I get lung cancer because you changed the doff system. I promise you I will sue your company.. :P

While lung cancer is nothing to joke about, yeah - the amount that I've smoked has seriously increased since DOFFing/R&Ding no longer completes off line...it's tedious to say the least. 20+ assignments, work in the R&D, and yeah...meh.

I have 6 50s + 1 26 and instead of being able to jump on and doff in 10 minutes all of them it now takes over an hour.. I feel like a ****ing chain smoker now.. log one in.. go for a smoke, come back complete finished assignments, setup next set, log out, log in next, go smoke again... rinse repeat..

Luckily this is not an issue for me, I went on Chantix for a bit 5 years ago and haven't smoked since. I bide my time waiting for doff assignments to complete by playing with transformers in my collection.

Wait.so let me get this straight.. the only reason STO isn't giving you lung cancer atm.. is because you paid some company to break you of smoking? Logic fail? :P

I hear what you're saying; but this thread start really isn't all that appropriate.

The obvious guess is that Cryptic did this to address some kind of 'Race Condition' involving the underlying server database that keeps track of all in-game objects...

Given a choice, which would you prefer, slower Doff assignment completion, or losing objects out of your inventory ???

I get a cup of tea.
Then I do real world things. Or maybe Cryptic really is responsible for you attempting to kill yourselves slowly .

Since there is nothing of worth in my inventory ... and Doffing is the only thing I can bring myself to do within this game anymore ... take a guess ...

Have you considered taking up knitting? I can make a whole sock every time I doff and it is easier on the lungs.

imagine, if you stopped smoking, how much more time you would have to fight NPCs!

one might even vape and battle at the same time! :D

    Fortunately I don't smoke :P

But yeah, it's a bit tedious. Having 9 characters, it takes me some time to get it all done. In the ones who are still doing a rep it's a bit easier, as the missions get completed as I'm taking care of starting another rep project.

TBH it didn't cost me anything extra. My health insurance covered smoking cessation products, including Chantix.... and my co-pay for the Chantix prescriptions was actually less than what I would have paid for packs of cigarettes at the time. So in the long run it saved my quite a bit.

or build but castles, with black sand, cigarette sculpting, that would be quite artistic, we need a smoker to perform this feat lol

Before this change I was actually losing my server connection CONSTANTLY in the doff window. Now, part of that was an old laptop on the way out, but I did find it ended that part of the problem. It may be annoying but getting a server unresponsive logout every time I clicked anything was worse.

why don't you try doing something different in game and just let the doff mission assignments complete in the background?

I tend to park by ESD for feds and qo`nos for kdf and have found if I do the academy missions by the time I am done all the doff missions are ready to acknowledge and collect the rewards.
you of course could do anything in game that takes up the time needed, you don't have to have the doff mission interface open for the missions to complete so why bother.
try doing something like crystalline entity or colony invasion anything to stop you lighting up.

of course you could also try vapeing instead of smoking, after smoking for 40 years I thought nothing would help me get off the stinkies but I quit the day I started with the vape its been about 6 months now and I don't even miss them, oh and the money I have saved, vapeing is sooo much cheaper.
Since there is nothing of worth in my inventory ... and Doffing is the only thing I can bring myself to do within this game anymore ... take a guess ...

if that was the only reason I had to log in I seriously don't think I would bother.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    Why?

    I spend the time waiting for DOff mission completion and the S l o o o w d i n g screens on this forum.

So blame Cryptic if you don't like my posts :P

It's the 25th century, silly. We can cure lung cancer with a hypospray.

    *tosses hypospray*

Here, the cure for Space AIDS!

    *tosses another hypospray*

It is no doubt intentional as STO committed to increasing player's logged on in game time to PW. Not long after they did that, this "bug" appeared. When I said it was intentional months ago, back when it started, I had posters call me paranoid telling me how it would be fixed fast, how it's not on Tribble and blah blah blah.

    Well...
